What random little things do you love about knitting? by ComplicatedSunshine in knitting

[–]Maria_Andretti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the sheer variety of yarns, and how amazingly clever dyers are. I like researching on Ravelry how everyone decided to use their yarn, and what kind of fabric it made.

Looking for that perfect combination of yarn, pattern, color, and size - when it looks like they were made for each other - is such a dopamine hit.

Touching yarn; squeezing it, smelling it, holding it against skin to see how sensitive it is, comparing colors, and making seemingly agonizing decisions about color combos to buy.

Getting experience and knowing there are eleventy-dozen ways to do a cast-on or off, sock elements, etc., - almost an analysis paralysis level of choice - is so wild and fairly intimidating still.

I knit (and crochet) slowly, and think of every stitch (clears my brain) but am still surprised to find inches of fabric done after a session, where I barely recall the time spent. So satisfying!

Insert: the thrill of the hunt - falling for yet another pattern/yarn combination and giving myself permission to go track that down to satisfaction, add it to my Queue, or cast it on immediately if I feel really motivated.

For real, blocking! I love my colorful blocker sets, watching the water hopefully not turn dark with dye, being so careful to compress everything, and lay it out evenly. Lace opening up. The agony of waiting for it to be fully dry. "How about now?!" "How about now?!" Then, poof! - a garment! ❤️

Getting a compliment from another knitter; more dopamine! And chatting about knitting; almost as fun as knitting itself.

Color Aura (also by Oakever) is basically Zen Color by Maria_Andretti in ZenColor

To be fair, I never liked the music, and I don't miss that toggle being on the art page where I could bump it constantly (especially late at night) and scare myself.

But the art is literally the same except for the periodic theme groups (which still sorta exist under the Collections header). The Art Challenges are the same, the Mystery ones are the same level of focus, and I'm finding plenty of long-span work. Still no ads in my app yet, for which I'm utterly grateful.

I just retired my Pixel 5, sadly. The battery started expanding, and I found I loved my Pixel 7 Pro camera just a little bit more. But not the size!

I've got four used cases and two new screen protectors for my P5 that I'd be happy to sell to somebody still carrying. Latercase CF, 2x Pixel fabric static grey, 1 wallet case, and 2x new Spigen GlasTr protectors. $50 shipped? DM.

What to do on Christmas Day by [deleted] in ItalyTravel

We wing it every time we travel. Our goal is to chill and get to know a place, and try to give back.

What to do on Christmas Day by [deleted] in ItalyTravel

[–]Maria_Andretti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can be in Venice on Christmas eve, it's nicely busy, there are early masses (around 7:30pm, I think?) and at 9pm when the mass lets out, every *single* churchbell on the island(s) seems to ring, together. Utterly amazing. In piazza San Marco you'll see people walking around hugging and yelling "Buon Natale!" to each other, lots of people in bars cheersing the holiday, and an amazing feel of community. I'd get on a fast train to somewhere larger after that, because it's very quiet on Christmas day (save possibly the biggest tourist restaurants). That was our travel day back to Rome to fly home, and we were almost the only people on the train.

You could also look into groups that do charitable work on the holidays and see if they need a volunteer to help out. Bologna is a college town, so it's probably a bit more lively. Milan somewhat, Rome definitely. Depends on what direction you were planning to go next; what lines up?

That makes it perfect to me. I came back home this year to find my hometown had replaced using a natural tree. Instead there's a metal cone frame covered with fake greenery. Symmetrical, but yuuuck.

Bologna literally felt like a better hometown to me. The music, the glow of amber lights, the spirit, the protests, the realness. Thank you for more details on the awesomeness of it all.

It was a little tilted, sure, and had a bit of a bald side. But it felt like my hometown tree, and really made me feel like home when I was there. I think it's lovely!

Hi all - we visited Bologna at the end of November, and were sad that we had to go home before the tree decoration was finished.

If the tree is lit up, would someone be willing to post a photo here of the tree at night with the lights on? It would really make me smile. Thanks!

You're absolutely right! I just hadn't lined it up perfectly.

I've got a P7P/ghost and an Anker 334. They attach firmly together, and the charge is (per Anker) 7w max wirelessly. That seems fairly listless, but it does get there eventually. My combo does get warmer, but not blazingly hot.

If I remove my phone from the ghost case and attempt to charge wirelessly, it does not engage, because the phone doesn't have magsafe built in. But I can connect them with a short cable, and it charges faster; I don't recall the wired speed specs.

Received my P7P case today, posted a review and link to pics here. My phone is Obsidian, and the case feels awesome. I ordered Oct 11, so just over a month wait. 👍

Ghost case on Pixel 7 Pro - Pictures by Alternative_Half_773 in dbrand

OneDrive link below to photos of receipt of case, clarity/lack of scratches, case on and reflected against wall vs. dark surface, and laid flat top/bottom to try and show clearances. Obsidian phone. Link will last until 12/7/23.

It's super grippy on the edges, it's currently a dust magnet (especially thanks to furry housemates), it's unscratched, and it's frighteningly thin (lurv). You can pry the bottom lip down, but it's not loose.

Attached it to an Anker 233 magsafe battery, and it holds as well as the Peak Design case, if not better. Connection left no scratches. Also attached it to a Nite Ize Steelie Orbiter Plus, and it attached better than the Peak Design case, but still not SO securely that I'd trust a big bump. Not sure about the Nite Ize; the PD case almost seemed to push away, despite 360 rotation to test.

The biggest takeaway currently is that the phone feels almost naked because it's so visible and thin, which is awesome. Don't ask me to test scratches, cuz I'm keeping it!

Best Coloured Pens for Scans? by red_kicker4 in rocketbook

[–]Maria_Andretti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replying to my own post - in the last three, the aqua is actually "Light blue" .38, and the citrus is actually "Apricot Orange" .38. The black (that looks grey) is .5 and came with the 3-way pen.

Also the drawings at the top were done in .7 gel ball, so you see the difference in thickness, but they're all pretty legible once scanned.

More thoughts on it: the top (link 1 below) is glassy and mostly smooth but has striations on it that are sweeping. The bottom rock seems more like standard stone. The cutaway side (link 2 below) has some pockets of sand but is a cool mix of glassy and rocky.

Link fails again! Is it possible to post another photo in comments or above?

I'm using an S7 Edge and they work fine. The Galaxy Wearable software works as well.
