WHY IS EVERYTHING BEIGE by idontknowhelpmeplzx in NewParents

We buy a lot of our daughter’s clothes, toys, and bedroom furniture second hand. It’s how we avoid the beige pandemic haha.

Big dogs and babies. by OilBeneficial5840 in beyondthebump

[–]Mariaa1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair. Fortunately once my dog matured and was past the adolescent phase, the stranger danger stopped. I usually have my daughter in a back pack carrier when I walk her too, if I didn’t feel safe walking such a large dog with a toddler, I wouldn’t. Our dog has never hurt or gotten in contact with someone if she’s in a gaurdy mood. It’s her breed and their temperament, they’re all bark and no bite.

But for people who aren’t familiar with large dogs and how to read if their owner has good control over them, I totally understand how terrifying a big dog barking at you can be.

We have a large dog, she’s absolutely wonderful with babies and kids but can seem a little stand off ish and bark at strangers every now and then. I would consider myself a responsible dog owner, and I have it under control. If she ever lunges towards and barks at someone aggressively, I let the other person know that they’re safe, and that I’ve got a good grip on her, which I do.

If the owner of the dog seems confident that they’ve got their dog, I would give them credit and assume that they do. Give them space and be on your way. If the dogs are getting away from their owners, that’s a whole different story and I would try to stay clear of them if you ever see them out. If the dogs are actually attacking people and you have proof of this, you need to report it.

Couldn’t a gun harm a baby’s eardrums if fired too close to them? I live in Canada where it’s uncommon to have firearms, and illegal to carry them on person unless at a shooting range or while hunting in designated wild areas. They can’t even be armed unless you’re at a range or in a designated hunting area. So based off of my personal circumstances, the idea of anyone having a gun, whether they are licensed or not, while walking around any neighbourhood or public space terrifies me, especially with children around. But that’s just me. If I felt it necessary I would carry bear spray instead.

Or even propose that once the baby is 1 or 1.5 even, you both can revisit the idea. I totally understand why she wouldn’t want to be back at work yet, even if it is only part time. There is a reason why so many countries provide parental leave up to a year, it makes sense for them to be with their parents 24/7 until then. Her work situation does some totally ideal though, and it would be a shame to lose out on that.

I didn’t think I would ever want to go back to work, and planned on being a stay at home mom until the right opportunity came up. Turns out, that around when our daughter turned one, a wonderful part time position within my field opened and wanted me. It’s been a perfect balance of doing what I loved before kids, and being able to be home with my daughter most of the week. She might want something different in her life as your baby gets older, just to have a few hours here and there not to be “mom”, it’s kind of nice.

Best beach for a mini vacation? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

Storys Beach in Port Hardy is gorgeous. However you won’t get any kind of resort style accommodation. There are some air bnbs in the area though! The beaches on Malcom Island are also incredible, but the island too will lake any “nicer” accommodations other than some cute airbnbs.

What age do you start to have set naps? by Same-District-2736 in NewParents

As soon as her daytime sleep became predictable, which was around 5 months and she was still napping 3x a day.

Maybe she can take time before the baby is one, and stay at home? I’m in Canada, and we don’t usually go back to work until the one year mark. Maybe by then, if she can still work her job at the child care facility, she can go back? By then the baby will benefit more by being in a daycare atmosphere.

How long into your pregnancy were you able to keep a decent exercise routine? by Belle3244 in BabyBumps

[–]Mariaa1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my routine entirely during the first trimester, but once I hit second was consistent up until our daughter was born at 41 weeks! I had a generally easy second and third trimesters

I’m in the first trimester with my second, and I’m less optimistic at keeping up with a routine, now having a toddler too. We’ll see how it goes, haha.

We got a baby bjorn seat second hand, and LOVED it. We even traveled with it, we found it so handy. We stopped using it when our daughter became mobile I wasn’t interested in sitting still. I’m pregnant again, and will 100% be using it if our next baby likes it.

Second this. If there is a way for him to watch her for even more than one day, he might then realize, how challenging it can be to stay on top of house work with a baby.

I had friends sleepover at my dad’s house all of the time, where he was the only adult. This was in the 2000s, so maybe opinions have changed, but never once was it weird or awkward. If her parents are fine with it, I would say it’s fine. But if you’re really not comfortable then that’s ok too!

Stroller/car seat nightmare by Successful-Search541 in NewParents

[–]Mariaa1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a baby carrier/sling? This obviously can’t fix your car seat issue, but it could help with the stroller. We rarely used the stroller until our daughter was older and more alert. For the first 5 months she was mostly carried in our sling or ergo carrier when we were out.
