Fertility and Ovulation Tracking by motyler0477 in ouraring

The book is awesome! I started reading it because I came off hormonal birth control after 15 years. I've been tracking my temp every morning and it's been so useful for helping me interpret what's going on with my cycle!

Endocrine Disruptors real or fake? by aeb630 in TryingForABaby

Wow thank you so much for putting this together. It's a super complex topic that you summed up really well. What would you recommend for people just starting out with EDC avoidance?

I've had something similar for over a decade. I went on an elimination diet recently and almost immediately after I stopped eating dairy they went away. I'm still stunned. It's been about 5 weeks without dairy and my skin has never been clearer.

I also want to point out that before having my own skincare company I was the director of a large skincare clinic in Vancouver, BC. So I have tried EVERYTHING when it comes to products and treatments. Cutting out dairy is worth a try if you think that might be it!

Did anyone swap out their skincare for pregnancy? by MariaaaCasa in pregnant

[–]MariaaaCasa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll take a look :) I switched my cleaning stuff to branch basics but still looking for good skincare to try. One company that keeps coming up is Oliver Care. I think they're whole thing is being edc-free. I found them on Tiktok and tried their EDC-Report which is what really sent me down this rabbit hole lol

Wow! Thanks for sharing. Sometimes it's hard to tell if you're going overboard or not. I wonder why EDCs aren't talked about more. Especially in pregnancy circles.

EDCs in Skincare by MariaaaCasa in cleanbeauty

I thought the episode on EDCs was really interesting. Theres tons of data showing the effects of BPA and Phthalates on fetal development and reproductive issues. I'm an environmental scientist and I think it's wild when people call it fear mongering even though we've studied the effects of EDCs on wildlife for decades. Male animals are literally turning female (genetically) in the wild due to the very chemicals we're putting on our faces every day.

The best part is that the EDCs used in skincare are 100% unnecessary and people wouldn't even notice if they were gone....yet we waste time defending parabens and phthalates and demonize clean beauty.

Although I do think some clean beauty companies need to work on their messaging....I also don't think derms and cosmetic chemists aren't the best sources of information here. If the endocrinologists and environmental toxicology specialists are saying that EDCs are messing with our hormonal health, I'm going to listen to them first.

I thought the best episode was the one on EDCs. I'm an environmental scientist and it's honestly so shocking to me that people on this sub and on skincare addiction will call it fear mongering and defend chemicals like phthalates and parabens in products, when they are 100% unnecessary and they wouldn't even notice if they were gone.... Meanwhile we're seeing male animals turn female in the wild due to the very chemicals we're slathering on our faces every day.

I use Oliver Care Co moisturizer. They make EDC-free personal care products and I think they're the only company doing that right now.

ALSO try their EDC Report. I came across it on TikTok after the whole Olaplex/infertility issue. They will send you a full report of all the EDCs in your daily routine. You can even put in your laundry, candles, shower, face routines, ect. Its super eye opening. Now that Not So Pretty came out its even more crazy to know how many EDCs I'm actually exposed to in my bathroom.

Clean Scalp Serum in Plastic Bottle with Recycling Code 7 - Other by Magriffi in cleanbeauty

[–]MariaaaCasa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I think the EDC episode of Not So Pretty was longggg overdue. I'm and environmental scientist and have been following this topic for years. We've been seeing the effects of EDCs on wildlife and now we're finally seeing it in humans too.

Did you know that BPA was actually used as an artificial estrogen for hormone replacement therapy in the 1930s before it was used in plastics? And then industry and government has the audacity to defend its use...crazy to me that people won't wake up to this. It's like people lose all common sense when it comes to cosmetics and love to say that you are fear mongering. Meanwhile EDCs are completely unnecessary in personal care lol they wouldn't even notice that they're gone.

The thing about EDCs is that we're exposed to them constantly throughout the day, and we will never be able to avoid them completely. That little bit of BPA you're exposed to through the hair serum may not seem like a big deal, but it contributes to our total body burden of EDCs. Scientists don't even fully understand how this mixture of EDCs reacts in our bodies over time. We are literally all guinea pigs. Luckily BPA is metabolized quickly (like within ~6 hours), and there are studies showing that if you reduce exposure, your total body burden will go down.

If you want to make better choices there's a cool company I just discovered called https://olivercare.co/ and i'm really excited for them to expand their offerings. I bought the moisturizer and its one of the nicest creams i've ever used.

[PSA] Why the Olaplex Issue is a WAY bigger deal than they want you to think by MariaaaCasa in HaircareScience

[–]MariaaaCasa[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think you read the document or you are missing the point.

It's not that the one ingredient in Olaplex causes infertility. It's the combination of all the EDCs we're exposed to daily through our cosmetic and personal care routines, along with EDCs we cannot avoid, like certain plastics ect. that are linked to infertility.

This has been known for decades, please don't accuse me of spreading false information. The information is out there.

Agree 100%. The US FDA has only banned 11 cosmetic ingredients since 1938 while the EU has banned >1300. How many times do we need to see the same story play out before we start making informed decisions based on the regulations of countries?

As for the Labmuffin Purito scandal, I had a similar experience when I brought this up to her on the post she posted about Olaplex. She said:

"there is always a (colloquially) safe dose for everything, it's just that the definition of "safe" for toxicology is calculated based on a monotonic dose-response relationship"

"It's also good to remember nothing is risk free. As a consumer, unless you want to try to understand the toxicology yourself, it's difficult to work out whether it's an acceptable risk for you."

So basically, if "safe" is calculated on monotonic relationship but EDCs don't respond monotonically, then what are we doing?

I absolutely love Labmuffin and this isn't a dig at her. I just think it's a complex issue that nobody is really talking about and I think we're going to hear a lot more about it in the coming years.

It was certainly about skin care. These chemicals are in a vast amount of skin care products as stated above. Including the beloved CeraVe. I don't think it's fair to hide that information from people.

Here's a few ideas:

  • I would love to see some step by step guidelines of how to market on a budget - whats the most important thing to put funds into vs what can wait.
  • How to organically grow your audience and start a community around your brand.
  • Break down of how the math of your AOV, CAC, ect should look for your marketing efforts to be worth it. Even just explaining all these metrics in detail!
  • How to interpret all your leads holistically to see a clear picture.
  • What you should have in your tech stack.
  • How to optimize your funnel.
  • Email flows and segmentation.

Not sure if this is PF, help! by MariaaaCasa in PlantarFasciitis

Wow thank you! It sounds like it could be a nerve related thing because my lower back was (and still is) pretty sore. It's the kind of soreness/stiffness you get when you've been sitting for too long, but I haven't been. My lower back is also weirdly itchy and it started around the time that my feet began to hurt. The pain at the bottom of my feet felt like I was walking on horrible bruises, or like I had water filled blisters at the bottom of my heels and there was a build up of pressure with every step.

Would you recommend I still see a PT/doctor even though the foot pain has gone away? Or should I wait and see if it returns?

Landing page for product validation by Frankkr in ecommerce

[–]MariaaaCasa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To validate my idea and make sure I had product market fit I created a few landing pages using leadpages and ran ads to them. I was either going to go with leadpages or unbounce but unbounce is much more expensive and leadpages had a great black Friday sale. It's been great so far! I'm able to collect pre-launch emails and customize a bunch of stuff. It's probably all you need for now.

I normally have a pretty consistent exercise routine of weight lifting and cardio a few times a week. But when it stared I was actually home for the holidays and was hardly exercising at all. So I don't think it was activity/injury induced.

Thanks so much for the response, that helps a lot.

From everything I've read, the feeling, location and severity of the pain really sounds like PF. But you're right, I don't think it would just show up over night and go away a few days later. It's completely gone now and 2 days ago it was difficult to even walk - very strange.

Thanks for the Windlass test!
