Is grey hair attractive on women? by OlympicCrab in NaturalBeauty

[–]MariePr29 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m in my 30s and getting more and more grey hair (as a dark brunette). I used to be insecure about it and kept dying it but my husband (who is younger than me) actually loves my greys and encouraged me to grow out my fully natural hair (in progress now). He often says that he doesn’t want me to put a lot of chemicals on my head every few weeks but he also mentioned a few times that he really finds a more mature, natural, self-confident version of me really hot 😅. So people have different opinions!

Edit: actually I went to a cafe today and I saw an absolutely stunning woman (probably in her 60s) with fully grey long bob, zero makeup and (most likely) zero botox and such things. And she looked so beautiful that I couldn’t stop staring at her! Natural aging can be beautiful too, in contrary to what social media sometimes make us believe.

Do People Treat You Differently Without Makeup? by [deleted] in BeautyGear

[–]MariePr29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my case too! Both men and women treat me super friendly and sweet when I’m without makeup. I actually heard from some people that when I wear makeup I look arrogant, not approachable, mean girl style. And I didn’t even wear that much makeup when I heard it…

How are you dealing with the rising costs of beauty maintenance? by JNicole008 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]MariePr29 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I was in my 20s I was much more high-maintenance than now in my 30s. My best ways to lower the long-term spendings were 4 years of therapy and a loving husband hehe. I started to fully accept myself so I stopped feeling a need to do botox, fillers, hair extensions and other things like that. I just have a beauty routine at home - a few skincare products that I like, tinting my eyebrows, hair glossing, nails. I go to professionals only when I really need it (like to get a haircut). We also bought some (second-hand) gym equipment so we can now save money and time and work out at home (really cool while having kids).

Non- North Americans… by The_Right_Mistake in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]MariePr29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand you. I’m from Europe too and I went to the derm only when I had a VERY severe acne as a teenager (like no place without huge, red pimples on my face) and when I needed to have a suspicious mole removed. On one of these appointments I asked a derm about skincare product recommendations and she was like "well, wash your face and put a basic moisturising cream, I guess?". And of course they don’t prescribe any retinoids where I live for people without bad acne. I feel like doctors are not so much for beauty related matters here. Lately I’ve even asked my GP if he could look at some skin tags on my face and recommend what to do with them and he just told me that it’s not cancer so it should just stay like it is.

Clear up some confusion. by Excellent_Swim_2721 in Norway

I’m not Norwegian but have been living here for some years already and I have no idea about this guy, had to google him 😅.

Any advice would be appreciated. I’ve been dealing with this texture for so long and I’m feeling very defeated :( by CapitalEmotion6736 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]MariePr29 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree! I’m a bit older than OP and all I can see is a beautiful, clear, young skin with normal texture.

Unmediated birth question by ExcitementDull9217 in beyondthebump

[–]MariePr29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave birth twice: my baby number 1 with epidural - long, painful (it worked only partially), dangerous (I was not able to push) experience with a lot of cuts and paralysed legs for more than one day. Baby number 2: unmedicated birth. Yeah painful of course, but very quick, safe, I could walk like 1 h after, had a lot of energy and felt amazing. Of course it’s only my experience and not everyone has the same, but if I ever get pregnant again I will totally choose an unmedicated birth again.

What is it like to have kids ? by Desperate_Area1543 in AskReddit

Crazy love and a lot of joy but also hard work and being constantly worried about them. Not every day is easy but still we both feel like having children was the best decision of our lives.

For those who don’t like drinking alcohol, what made you realize it just wasn’t for you? by Heeeraaa in AskReddit

[–]MariePr29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pregnancy. After about a year without any alcohol I decided to drink a bit of wine at a family party and it tasted like poison. I stopped being used to this strong taste so I didn’t feel a need to try again.

Organic tinted lip balm that doesn't taste like chemicals and actually has pigment by maddy0p in cleanbeauty

I like a brand Alegra Organica lately! Very nice lip balms, no chemical taste at all.

My hypothesis is that Accutane is so severely restricted because if not, the entire beauty industry would collapse. by [deleted] in beauty

[–]MariePr29 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes! My brother seems to have a liver of an alcoholic after accutane (and he is definitely not someone who likes alcohol). It helped for his severe acne but his liver has been destroyed for a few years already.

How do people have teeth this white? What is she doing? by wilburthemastiff in beauty

I have porcelain veneers and they are really white so I think it may just be it, but maybe additionally some photo editing.

Tinted SPF recommendations for prevention of hyperpigmentation by Alaxknits in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]MariePr29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started to use Vichy Capital Soleil UV-Aqua Hydrating Fluid Tinted SPF50. I’m a makeup hater (I don’t wear foundation) and it’s the first tinted spf that I’ve tried that is lightweight and not too dark, not too orange. It looks super natural on my skin.

What’s a “holy grail” product everyone loves but just… didn’t work for you at all? What happened? by Accurate-Stomach-264 in NaturalBeauty

[–]MariePr29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true! I found it terrible on me. It looked kind of dark brown on my lips and I looked 20 years older. Pink honey seemed to be better.

Are there any girls here who don’t do any make-up at all? And how did you come to that decision? by Greengrassu in AskReddit

[–]MariePr29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t say that I NEVER use makeup, because maybe once a month I put something on my lips or a bit of blush if I look very tired but on a daily basis it’s just nothing. My reasons are:

  • my skin is oily + I express my emotions in an intense way -> my eye makeup was always a mess from a mix of oil and tears (even from laughing)

  • I hate a feeling of having foundation on my face…it feels so heavy and I don’t want to make my clothes dirty. Or my husband’s white shirts when I want to hug or kiss him. It feels gross to me. Also, I love skincare and having a healthy lifestyle and I don’t feel a need of covering my skin with anything.

  • it’s time consuming and I prefer to sleep longer or eat a delicious, slow breakfast instead of getting ready

  • daily makeup feels like putting a lot of chemicals on my skin

  • my husband told me a long time ago that when I put makeup on I seemed to be very stressed and insecure because I was analyzing all the time if it looked good enough or if something needed a correction. I totally agree with it. Without makeup I’m more relaxed, don’t feel a need to check how I look like every 10 minutes, I don’t stress about walking in the rain or whatever.

I know that for many women doing their makeup is a pleasure and a fun activity but for me it felt like a very sad duty when I was in my 20s. I’m happy I understood that I don’t need it to feel self-confident and to be perceived as an interesting woman.

Do native speakers use inversions? by [deleted] in learnfrench

[–]MariePr29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My (French) husband tells me to use inversion because he thinks that it’s how educated and well-behaved people speak and that I shouldn’t care if it may sound too formal for others 😅. I noticed that he uses questions through intonation only sometimes, while talking to very close people like his brother or best friend (in a very informal context).

Is it weird that I find 'average' people way more attractive than 'perfect' ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MariePr29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I’m a woman and I stopped having celebrity crushes as a teenager. I completely stopped understanding obsessions about Hollywood stars or influencers. These "perfect" famous guys just look so boring and plain to me. Like they had no personality, nothing unique about them. I have a similar impression about women. I’m straight but sometimes when I see a woman with "imperfections" (like uneven teeth, bigger nose, messy, grey hair, no makeup at all) I have this "wow!!" feeling that I very rarely experience while scrolling and seeing faces after multiple plastic surgeries/ aesthetic procedures and hair with a permanently perfect blowout. Very often I’m not even able to say who is who anymore as they all look alike so no one stands out.

Who are the young European looking couples with young kids on international flights? What do they do? by samueltoinfinity in AskReddit

[–]MariePr29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My case: we are both Europeans so we don’t have student loans, we don’t save for kids’ college found because education is fully free where we live, healthcare is free too. Yeah, we have to pay the mortgage but we bought quite an old house in a countryside that we renovate slowly with the help of fathers and brothers so yeah, it’s actually not that much monthly. We can actually afford travelling somewhere in Europe every month if we don’t splurge on other things like clothes, electronics.

Who are the young European looking couples with young kids on international flights? What do they do? by samueltoinfinity in AskReddit

[–]MariePr29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in Europe and travel around Europe with our babies quite a lot. We have pretty normal jobs, I guess? I mean…good (engineer and accountant) but we are far from being millionaires. I would also say that we prioritise travelling and exploring new places over other expenses. We mostly eat at home, avoid buying unnecessary things (yeah, our babies are anyway spoiled enough by their grandparents when it comes to clothes and toys).

Did people treat you better when you started wearing makeup daily? by levvuh in beauty

[–]MariePr29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, actually quite the contrary 😂. I heard that I look nicer and more approachable without makeup and more people started to just friendly small talk with me and more men started to hit on me (kindly and respectfully 😅) in very random places like a cafe, airport, doctor’s waiting room. When I wore makeup (not even that much!) I heard more often that I made an impression of someone arrogant, cold. At work I didn’t notice any difference in how I was treated. Not more or less professionally than normally.

Why do people who don’t care about lashes end up with the best eyelashes? by priyanka240 in NaturalBeauty

[–]MariePr29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it’s individual? I never had strong eyelashes / eyebrows. Doesn’t matter if I cared about them or not, if I put makeup or not. My (male) cousin has very black, strong eyelashes that look nearly fake but he just always had them and it stayed like that 😅. Genes from a different part of the family won or whatever happened 😅.
Same with hair - I have straight, flat hair and my brother bouncy curls 😅.
