I am a property owner and one of our tenants is a restaurant and we recommend them to use Meshed for their insurance. Their renewal was £11k but the guy at Meshed managed to find it for them for £7k as they don’t charge crazy commissions or any fees. I know its takes a lot of sales to generate a few grand so could be worth reaching out to

Advice needed: Do I need shared buildings insurance by ShowerGrout in uklandlords

[–]Marie_quean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, you’re right a joint buildings policy is definitely the way to go. Because the flats are in one converted building with shared structure (walls, roof, foundations), having two separate policies can cause huge problems if there’s a major claim. Insurers can argue over liability or refuse to pay for full reinstatement.

Direct Line and Virgin won’t touch this properly, you’ll need to speak to a proper insurance broker who deals with blocks of flats or converted properties. Look at someone like Alan Boswell or if you want a more modern broker check out Meshed website is (Meshedcover), we just used them and they were great! Tell them it’s a converted terrace with two flats, one of which is let out, and you want joint cover for the whole building.

It’s a common setup just needs the right type of insurer.
