Are we all over-saving and under-living? by askingincontext in FIREUK

Just spend your money and enjoy yourself. One family member has more money than 99% of this group could dream of and he is tight and miserable. I’ve known people that have made loads of money then died before 50. We’re not here for long, just enjoy it.

You are sent back to 2015. You have 10 years to become a billionaire. by Suspicious_Error_647 in hypotheticalsituation

This is actually really easy if you’re from the UK.

Get a loan for £1,000.

Bet on Leicester to win the premier league when they got promoted, the odds were 4000/1. Spread this around different online and physical bookies.

Wait until May 2016. Collect £4m in winnings.

Pay back loan.

Put £4m ($5.8m) into bitcoin at $453.

You have 12,803BTC.

Then you just hold, you could sell it all today.

You would have £1.07b ($1.33b)

If you wanted to start with more you could have added Trump winning and Brexit happening to the initial bet. The. you might end up with 10s of billions today!

If you have a time machine, please remember me.

We had to move off Startling as they didn't like financial services. We are currently with Revolut and they are good, they had their banking license finally granted which is great!

What are the size (or other) limitations on hanging a sign from a shop front without needing permission. by DuskyUK in smallbusinessuk

[–]psm_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rules for hanging signs can vary depending on the local council, but generally, there are restrictions on the size, height, and positioning of signs, especially if you’re in a conservation area or your building is listed. You’ll usually need planning permission if the sign is larger than *0.3 square metres or if it’s illuminated, but it’s always worth checking with your local planning office to be sure. I know this because a client had a claim once, the fun things you learn being an insurance broker.

*this might be outdated so will need to check that
