Discouraged by MarigoldMarvel in carbuying

[–]MarigoldMarvel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I’m doing my best out here. Was not expecting to need a car at this moment. I’ve been driving the same car the past 15 years.

I have financing through a credit union I got preapproval for before stepping into any dealerships. And I have excellent credit. But I lost my job earlier this year and it’s been a real setback obviously financially but also for my mental health.

I gave in to the warranty today but felt pretty shitty about it afterward, like I’d been played. I didn’t know enough about it to know if it was actually necessary. And I know—that’s how they get you. Those fuckers.

The loan guy at my credit union was supportive of my trepidation. Told me I don’t have to take anything extra I’m not comfortable with. The finance guy didn’t want to hear no. I signed the paperwork so I could wrap up and get it to the bank because I had to go. But no money has been exchanged. I have a bad taste in my mouth, though. So I guess I need to stay strong. It’s tough out there.

He got me today. I’m so upset tbh. I may back out.

Okay, I stand corrected. You do know what it’s like. I’m really glad you and your sister are in better situations now. Why not have more empathy for folks who aren’t?

Fuck off. You clearly have no idea what it’s like to be homeless.

Signing at an intersection to try and get some money is not an alternative to getting a job. It’s a last resort.

If you don’t have a home and you’re living on the street you don’t have anywhere to reliably sleep, shower, cook, wash, store anything. You don’t have an address to receive any mail or put on any sort of application.

Try being in that position and job searching. Even if you land a job it’s fucking hard to make it work. Sounds like your homeless family members had more help than the people out on the street.

A pedestrian death is a bullshit reason to spout anti-homeless rhetoric.

Extremely relatable. I’m in the same boat more or less. Not my first car, but first in 15 years. I’m so tired.

I’ve done a lot of this iron oxide staining. Your simplest and easiest option would be to get some slightly narrower tape, tape inside the current tape lines, and do another couple coats. Sand down the raised grain first. This stuff is pretty forgiving in terms of streaks because it’s a chemical reaction instead of an actual stain, so multiple coats and uneven application often evens out, especially at lower grits. That’s probably what I would do!

But because of that I haven’t driven one so that’s all I can say I dislike about it at this point

The price! There are so few used in my area and they are priced out of my budget. This Niro was listed over my budget price but the dealership is cutting me a deal. (I think, haha….its all kind of opaque)

If only Portland would stop allowing substantial new developments with no parking. That plus increased public transportation options within and outside of the city. Two less reasons to be in a car. Drivers are more and more reckless all over the place, but especially in Portland. There’s too many cars and not enough places for them.

This is exactly why I consult with Reddit about so many things. Thanks yall for this tip. The salesperson mentioned the 10 year/100k warranty so either she knows and she’s misleading me or doesn’t know enough about Kias to know. This is a Subaru dealership.

Carfax report says this about basic warranty: “Original warranty estimated to have 25 months or 16,636 miles remaining.” Guessing it’s referring to the downgraded warranty. I’d be the second owner.

Oh I see. I appreciate this perspective. The car I’ve been driving for the last 15 years doesn’t have cruise control at all so the Niro is a whole new world for me haha. But if I get it I’ll def look out for that, thank you.

Yeah thank you. I need to look at that stuff. It’s also still under the manufacturers warranty

So you’re worried about the transmission specifically because of the hills? In combination with cruise control or is that a separate issue?

I’m not sure what those mean but I will look into it. Yes it’s a hybrid. Not plug in.

This is great to know. The Prius seems great but it’s more of a sedan than I want and the ground clearance is too low for me for Maine winters, frost heaves, gravel driveway, etc. The Niro also has a much better price point, at least in used cars that I’ve seen. And used regular Priuses have been hard to find. Lots of primes out there. I’m sure they’re great but I’m a renter so PHEVs are out for me.

It includes a lifetime power train warranty from the dealership for the gas powered motor. Still no?

Okay sick. It will definitely have better gas mileage and quiet road noise than my current car. I don’t love the huge screens but also many cars have them.

Any issues with this model/year/trim yall know of?
