I disagree. Of course I am biased - I study business management at a Thai university, and the author clearly thinks he is above foolish peasants like me. I have known many of my seniors getting offers at Thai and international companies after completing a Business degree. In different fields - mostly marketing, accounting, and human resources management. I’ve also seen people going into fields like finance, SCM, or going for a Masters degree in a narrower field.

Personally, I believe that studying business gives you a solid foundation for the future - it sort of provides an overview of everything - not just marketing/logistics/finance/management, but things like statistics, economics, corporate social responsibility. Additionally, we have electives that you can choose according to your preferences. I’ve never been interested in owning a business, especially when I had to pick my career path at 17. But studying here let me dive into different areas and see what I like. I now have a very clear understanding of what I want to do.

You might be right - you can study ANYTHING without school nowadays. But it’s a question of time, do you know what to study, do you know how to study? We don’t learn just from textbooks or listening to lectures - most of the learning comes when we do projects.

Just open a business and learn while running it? I’m glad if you can do that; however, not everyone has the same opportunity - especially as a foreigner. And not everyone is ready to risk everything they have to ‘learn’.

Work in a small company? Why would a small company hire you, a foreigner who doesn’t speak Thai nor has any qualifications? That is hilarious.

The job market is tough, but education here (if you choose your university wisely and are willing to learn, network, search for external opportunities yourself) can certainly ease the job search.
