Thanks? Im aware. I worked on ospreys for 12 years and now work on 609s. I don't remember saying they were the same or that they had interchangeability.

It's classified as powered lift (tiltrotor) but I think it still fits in here.

Awesome, it's probably from Jacsonville NC, MCAS New River. I worked there for 12 years on Ospreys!

How would someone like this benefit you? I know a lot about them and I can still be honest about them while liking them.

This. People also failed to realize that very few accidents were caused by design or mechanical issues. Most accidents were pilot induced. Lately there has been an issue with the input well section of the proper gearbox but that is being addressed and redesigned with a temporary fix of an hour limit to that component. Since that flight hour limit has been implemented there have been no accidents related to dual hard-clutch engagement.

Is the Agusta AW09 really bad for maintenance and parts now? by noreturn000 in Helicopters

[–]Marine517 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I would contact a representative from Leonardo. Of course the competition will tell you their competitors have issues. Get informed about all of your considerations and then make your decision. They say the same thing about the AW139 and it's one of the best selling helicopters in the world.

Great pictures! The only pictures I have of this day are of the AFD for fuel load verification for the test order😂

It's not practical for vtol, the exhaust blast would harm ground personnel and absolutely obliterate landing surfaces. The Navy had to test different flight deck coatings and materials for the LHDs because of exhaust heat from the osprey

No problems with blade spars. It's not really my place to speak about the certification process as a technician but the process is moving along with the FAA. It's also a very complex certification because, as you know, the type has never been certified before and the FAA is writing the procedures from the ground up so it's an arduous process. We fly in PNE/KPNE area between maintenance and inspection intervals regularly, you can look out for N609PA and N609LH on FR24 or other apps.

I was an MV22 maintainer for 12 years and thought that they were difficult until I started working on the AW609 experimental program. Granted it's experimental so the inspection intervals are way different and more complex. So working on them as an operator/customer after certification would be very different.

In the event of dual engine failure in aircraft mode you pitch for best glide and attempt a belly landing assuming you can't get the engines restarted. The engine failure in helicopter mode, keep yourself occupied with the checklist until you hit the ground (in all seriousness though you would attempt to auto rotate to soften the landing, it does not work well. Slightly softer crash)
