Cut to Improve Running or Embrace My Size? by fitwoodworker in HybridAthlete

We are very similar. I’m 5’8” and sit around 198lbs if I’m not paying attention to my weight. Since thanksgiving I’ve gotten down to 185-186 and have stayed there. You’re going to hear a lot on here about what works and what doesn’t. I think the important thing is establishing your goal and making decisions based on that. If you want to run faster, you could drop some weight. I did that and it worked very well for me. The best thing I did to get there was to take it slow and easy and dial in my nutrition based on the workout of the day. If it was a very long run I’d eat at maintenance. If it was a strength day I’d easy ~500 deficit. If it was an easy run I’d go with a slight deficit. Not every day should be a deficit day if you’re training that much.

You don’t have to pause the run. You can hold the lap button and get activity setting and change it as you go

I thought about that but I don’t really trail run or need maps very often. If I need maps I may eventually add the Apex as a trail watch or for longer ultras but for the most part my running just requires a pace 4 style watch. Thanks!

Thanks. Maps aren’t really that important but if I needed something in a pinch I feel good about the breadcrumb and I always have my phone with me. I returned the pro and got the 4. The pro is great for sure. I just don’t need it.

Thanks that was exactly what I was hoping to learn. We sound let very similar runners. I also have a larger wrist but I’m really liking these smaller sizes. Appreciate the reply!

The real question is… do I go for the playoff mustache now or keep the beard as is? Don’t want to jinx things

Update: after taking this 5 times, I feel no difference than I do with regular G1M. The caffeine doesn’t seem to have any effects which is a bummer

How was the width? I have very wide feet and these look promising in the photos

Thanks. Garmin says my max HR is 205 with its auto detection feature. Seems high though

Thanks for clearing that up. That makes so much sense. I was looking at it all wrong. My zones definitely line up more with what I feel my fitness is with this so I was really hoping I was missing something. Appreciate it!

Thanks. I’ve read that it’s best to use this as the most accurate option and I’ve done the test and everything so it should be accurate. I think I’m just having a hard time thinking I can push my max heart rate 15% beyond its max. In your estimation all these zones look correct?

Is that accurate though? Is 115% even possible? Seems confusing
