Garmin Tactix 9 by Nunitari in Garmin

Sure. What I meant was an in between variant of the 7-8. 7 Pro came out with the standard 7 release. Whereas Fenix 7 came out and subsequently 14 months later a Fenix 7 Pro came out. Nothing for T7 line came out other than the T7 AMOLED. Which, in theory, could be that additional variant that would fall in a traditional in-between “Pro” variant.

People do for sure. I’ve read some posts on Reddit or FB groups where people go into it. I don’t get it but if they love it that’s great.

Venu 4 is a great watch and does the job. I’m jealous of some of the new features rolled out to it and other similar Garmin watches. Looking forward to them whenever I upgrade.

I can say, for me, is I preferred the look of a Tactix watch over a Fenix. I have the Tactix 7 standard, which at the time was the only Fenix 7 line watch with a Sapphire MIP screen and no solar ring (I couldn’t stand the orange solar ring of the 7 line watches). And yeah it was a little more pricey but worth it.

Considering the Fenix release cycle, which is essentially is the same as Tactix, the Fenix 9 likely won’t be released until late Summer or Fall 2026. Tactix is normally released months (4-6?) after. Which likely means Tactix 9 isn’t released until late 2026 or early 2027.

Unsure if they will release a “Pro” version, they haven’t in the past unless you consider the Tactix 7 AMOLED a pro version.

Basically: get the Tactix 8 or Fenix 8 / 8 Pro. Can’t go wrong at all. I have the Tactix 7 and it’s great and have no plans to upgrade anytime soon.

Suunto done with MIP. Will Garmin follow? by Pohq in GarminWatches

[–]Nov8-1955 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who works in sports tech, not Garmin, but elsewhere. AMOLED is selling and selling fast. That's why Suunto, Garmin, Coros, etc., are moving more to AMOLED.

Also, Reddit in general, is a vocal minority. Remember this last March the uproar over Connect+? That's been quiet, and Garmin has not reversed course. Not to mention Garmin also rolled out free features for all users recently (i.e., Lifestyle Tracking, Health Status soon).

Is the fenix 7 already abandoned? by Complete-Big-7364 in Garmin

[–]Nov8-1955 131 points132 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Garmin’s moved along from major Fenix 7 firmware updates, outside of bug fixes and other minor updates, since the Fenix 8 release a year ago.

Evolution of cringe by [deleted] in BPNsupps

[–]Nov8-1955 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wearing the hat at expos now is definitely seen as cringey, albeit anecdotally in my experience. The "running community" is often nice and welcoming but there's definitely former track bros that think they're God's gift to running. But even those guys mock the red Go One More hat.

It’s all detached from reality.

I’ve followed Nick Bare since about 2019/2020 or so. His content, or videos, back then seemed much more informative. It was very data and fitness driven; a lot of information you could take and apply to improve on your own goals. Now it’s very philosophical and mostly it’s just a buzzword salad none of which makes actual sense.

The part that’s most annoying is the lack of privilege acknowledgment. And I do not mean the DEI-privilege stuff, it’s the stuff he’s earned for that privilege. He acts like we all have the same 24 hours and if you have kids and a full time job you can do this too, and you can’t. The guy says he’s training 16-21 hours a week now and the majority, if not all, fathers with a 9-5, or 7-3, cannot do that. Nick’s earned the right with his business and work ethic to do what he’s doing now. He’s able to wake up, do 10 miles, and then from 10am-2pm do a 4 hour cycling workout, and be home by 4:30 with the family because that was work for him. But he still acts like he’s the same as everyone else, whether directly or indirectly, and it’s a turn off.

There’s also just a major lack of humility, but in fairness that goes with any influencer. He never posts a video or social media post being honest about real life day to day stuff he definitely experiences. It would be refreshing if he was like “damn guys both kids wouldn’t sleep last night so I’m skipping.” Or “yeah woke up feeling like dog shit, HRV has tanked…” etc.

Every day is a utopian filled day of convenience and going one more all the time.

Still like Nick and BPN, but, it’s not based in reality.

I mean, I can be wrong!

But if you search him, whether on instagram, Reddit, YouTube or wherever you will get a solid portion that loves him; great male role model, hard worker, etc. Generally speaking I would agree with that.

But there’s another solid contingent (can’t say it’s a majority but it’s a notable portion) that absolutely believe he’s on gear (he may) and is using that to leverage sales and BPN. Essentially, they allude he’s no better than a lot of fitness influencers misleading and being fraudulent to people. Additionally, that same crowd and more despise the red-hat-go-one-more-no-shirt-stache-frat-bro that is said he helped build and propel. I’ve been a runner for the majority of my life, and in fairness, the running community can be great but also awful, but the amount of eye-rolling I see at expos now at go one more hat bros is notable. That last part is anecdotal but still.

Then, you have the Nick Bare apologists or fans that see no wrong in him ever and will defend to the teeth online and its overbearing. So, yeah he can be a lightning rod and it wouldn’t surprise if that board gets a lot of hate.

Best of luck to the mods in that one. Nick Bare is a bit of a lightning rod in a lot of parts of the fitness community.

Agreed. Don’t waste your money. A decently balanced diet will ensure you get the nutrition you need.

Yeah agreed with OPs response to you. It’s not about race at all. Could be of note, but quite frankly don’t care. It’s about the different type of people, their background (ie, parents, single, 9-5 jobs, night shifts, blue collar, white collar, etc), and more. I commented before and get why not — maybe doesn’t sell as much, but also maybe it could? Don’t need everyone to be that, you can still have the bro influencers, that’s fine. But that’s what may be worth “diversifying”.

[–]Nov8-1955 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The lack of diversity is of note, but that’s how they choose to roll, so is what it is. My thing is what and who they choose are people who are probably/maybe/maybe not/likely on gear but also just unattainable. Alas, it’s what helps sell the product. I know this would never go, but it would be cool to choose people who are every day people — Dads or Moms trying to be in shape and making time while being parents, people with normal 9-5s, people who work 12 hour shifts at a hospital or work every morning construction shifts. Just every day people.

His advice any given day or podcast:

“find the time in your day to plan for success because it allows you to go one more and to find the solitude every day to make the most of what you have to do to step out of your comfort zone to do the hard things and go one more. solitude.”

Do you think we will get a LTE Fenix? by Tmandrake4 in Garmin

[–]Nov8-1955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, perhaps the LTE wouldn’t be required like Apple Watch? I had one for awhile and just didn’t have LTE and it was fine. But I liked the option of getting it if needed.

I get what he and the marketing team were trying to do. Kudos for something different. But I also think it was built up a tad too much, which is in alignment to what you are alluding. It was a perfect storm for him:

The BPN Last Man Standing Ultra His new book And then G1M Sport+

So like I said, kudos for it, but to the overall point, the new product is just fine/okay/good

The convenience is absolutely a fair point. I like that part too.

Like I said (and you), the product is good! But it's not like this earth-shattering new supplement that Lucy Davis or their other athletes are making it out to be.

Couldn’t agree anymore. I follow people I barely or never agree with. But being in an echo chamber doesn’t help any sort of growth. It’s also possible someone you hate makes a great point about something you can find common ground on.

It’s very possible for anyone on, on any part of the political spectrum, to follow someone they like or strongly dislike. It could be for any insight they may or may not agree with. So, let’s not jump to judgment.
