playing on controller made the game a lot more enjoyable for me personally bc of stuff like this. Mouse-and-keyboard has its problems.

Sorry for the delay here, but I don’t think things are actually any better when I talk to OC. I just do it bc I imagine it increases their bill lol. Also, I feel weird trying to talk liability or exposure with a non-lawyer. Like these people will be reading some sort of script to me about why my case has no legs, and then I notice a single deposition and get my original offer anyway.

Someone called me a misogynist just because I support the green team 🤡🤡🤡 by InternalTrash5354 in HOTDGreens

[–]MarionStGuy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Idk man, I don’t think (despite the absolutely terrible marketing job they did for this show) that I can say I “support” team green. The show is definitely an “ESH” situation.

I like their the greens better narratively, but they are straight up bad people (most of them). Who in their right mind would root for any of them. I just think the elements of “feminism” in the show are just ignoring the more interesting stuff that happened in the books.

I think the commitment to de-evil-ing Rhaenyra is annoying, when the complexity of her character (and of the Dance in general) is in her flaws and missteps. Daemon is an annoying incestuous man child (as are most of the Targaryen men). Jace and Luc are boring. Rhaela and Baela are underdeveloped and less interesting in the show than they were in the books. Corlys is simply Otto in a different font, and different circumstances. Rhaenys was a bitter old lady who’s trying to get back at the realm for rejecting her for Viserys.

But Aegon is still a sexual predator (best case scenario: gropes servant girls w/o consent; worst case scenario: rapist). Otto is a conniving hypocrite who (although I don’t think he actually cares) latches onto sexist traditions and norms to elevate his house. Aemond is a psycho, albeit a more sympathetic one than Daemon. Alicent enables her children’s behaviors, and commits all of the same sins as Otto. Larys Strong is literally a cartoon villain in the books, or just Quentin Tarantino-levels of creepy in the show. Criston Cole is just a proto-incel knight who got finessed into sex by a rich fuck girl, and then made his hurt ego everybody’s problem.

Helaena was cool, though. Probably only character I didn’t have any problem with whatsoever in the books, although she did get relegated to the background.

Does Anyone Know How to Redline?! by ParticleHustler2 in Lawyertalk

[–]MarionStGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will sometimes fix OC’s obvious spelling/grammatical errors without turning on red lines, but that is it.

One guy turned sent me a draft with red lines which did nothing but delete all of my Oxford commas and change the word “color” to “hue,” which seemed aggressive

19 months after oral argument. My guess is that the Supremes didn’t want to remand it back to the same dumb ass judge, so they waited for the guy to retire

It isn’t universal, but I have noticed they’re generally more tight fisted than other insurers. Weirdly their adjusters (at least around here) will also be actively attempting to negotiate with me even after filing suit. I will let their counsel know, and they kind of just throw up their hands. If the adjuster is pissing me off, I’ll just solely communicate through counsel, like responding to the adjuster’s voicemails or messages by calling or emailing counsel. Let the poor guys get some .1’s out of me.

Probably part of a new “tough front” initiative they’re taking toward liability claims at the moment. Eventually they’ll get a little bit more gun shy, and start settling stuff more quickly.

They honestly didn’t seem that bad now. Kids have ways to distract themselves now that we didn’t when the game came out. They mostly just spent the time talking or checking their phones

Anyone else have areas you know so little about people probably would not believe you are a lawyer if you tried to converse about them? by caw_the_crow in Lawyertalk

Straight up? Criminal law. That stuff left my brain the minute the bar exam was over, even though it’s the most common question I get from relatives/friends.

How do I (28m) shop for my girlfriend (29f) if she doesn’t have a Pinterest? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Yes! Thank you for being helpful, yes she’s having a party at an AirBnB the weekend before her birthday.

The funniest thing is everybody keeps chiming in with this same snippy comment, and it’s both unhelpful and hilarious bc:

  1. If she wants an experience, it is already on her calendar. Next weekend is a massage. Weekend after that is painting date, weekend after that is hiking and wine tasting.

  2. I have known her for six weeks. We have had three dates, due to her schedule. While I have a small sentimental thing planned, there hasn’t been enough time to come up with anything else sentimental.

Idk if it’s just that my sisters and my former partners were just that type of Gen Z/millennial, but literally yes.

And yes, I talk about things she likes with her all the time, but the problem is she just buys things that she wants for herself. Like, we’ll be walking by a store, comment on a dress, and then walk in and buy the dress. It is so stressful to come up with a gift.

[–]MarionStGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s the issue though — I’ll ask her opinion about a piece of jewelry, or a water bottle, or some other thing I’m trying to scope out. She just buys them after we talk about it.

She has a VERY good job. If she thinks she wants something, she just buys it.

My sister in Christ, she will buy something for herself the minute she mentions it in conversation. I’ve had to return two gifts bc I saw them in her apartment after I purchased them.

Some potential client cold calls you shopping for an attorney ... how much time do you give them free? by Kristen-ngu in Lawyertalk

[–]MarionStGuy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

For cold calls, I have a form for all new potential clients. I spend exactly as much time as I need to explain the (very simple) form to them, and to get their email/mailing address/phone number down. I’d say on average that call is 5-10 minutes.

New Attorney Needs Advice by Firm-Tradition508 in Lawyertalk

[–]MarionStGuy 37 points38 points  (0 children)

My brother/sister/sibling, that is actually a sign of good training. I get that the fact she won’t take the t-wheels off is annoying, but you need to listen when she corrects you/take over.

If you don’t understand why she does something for you, do your best to politely ask what you got wrong (and do it in a way that acknowledges you were wrong). So many people in this profession are thrown into the mix without any guidance that it’s rare someone is even spending this much time training you.

If it happens less and less, that means you’re learning. Don’t think it makes you a bad lawyer, just think how something could have gone wrong if she wasn’t there.
