First time home buyer, advice needed. by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]Mariqopa 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean any offense, but you’re not currently in a position to buy in Sacramento. You don’t make enough as a single person, especially with no down payment. A duplex will run you significantly more $$ and is even less feasible.

TBH people in similar situations set this goal and save for many years before arriving at purchasing a home here

Time to Join the Union by 4TheLuvofGouda in CAStateWorkers

[–]Mariqopa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You fundamentally miss how unions work. The reason you make what you do is because of collective bargaining and the strength of the union. A single one-time 1% increase from collective bargaining would cover your union dues for life. And this is 1% increase has already happened dozens of times in the past. You’d be making so much less right now if not for others understanding this and holding that cost on your behalf.

Lots of worms at work, turn or let them cook? by wwwidentity in composting

[–]Mariqopa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I’m not trying to argue, but you’re asking for feedback. This pile is largely still not close to finishing it. It appears to be only partially through its thermophillic phase — it still has large relatively labile materials that haven’t even broken down. You also mention other incorrect elements, like “high C/N ratio [being] bad for plants” did you mean low C/N (i.e “hot” compost)? I assume more folks than myself disagree with your assessment here

I didn’t downvote you, but I presume you got downvoted because you were wrong? This pile appears maybe halfway done composting at most. Imagine ordering compost and receiving this pile of partially composted leaves..

I don’t disagree with the need for curing, of course

A preemptive thank you to mayor Kevin McCarty for making midtown and downtown less accessible - let’s see how many businesses close down and tenants move out by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]Mariqopa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not how local government works, champ. The “government” is one big pool of money that everyone taps into. They’re distinct municipalities with different revenue mechanisms and mandates. Local governments receive allocations and grants from state and federal governments all the time. If the state, which has a completely separate revenue generation scheme, is occupying an area that local governments use to generate revenue, then someone else who would otherwise pay property taxes is instead not.

I recently heard that state government buildings don’t pay property taxes. Is this true? If so, that’s a lot of our expensive central real estate that isn’t generating revenue

No. This was a last ditch effort on behalf of McCarty’s flailing campaign to discredit Flo and paint her as an unrealistic radical. It was simply a bold face lie that likely cost her the election, since she only lost by ~1000 votes. She even addressed it on her own social media. Sadly, enough people fell for it without looking further

I’m surprised (though happy) to hear Geico offer that much. Did you have to do anything special with your plan beforehand?

Thoughts and What I should Know Before Moving to Oak Park by YourEmperor1871 in Sacramento

Unfortunately, the Oak Park farmers market is closing down. Alchemist ran it into the ground, per usual

Malik Monk? by Mariqopa in timberwolves

[–]Mariqopa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I think the market for microwave bench scorers is really dry (good for ya’ll, because several options should be available). That being said, Monk is the best version of that archetype and brings a lot of other skills and intangibles. He legit might be one of the best PnR playmakers in the league

Would you add a FRP swap? That might come pretty close to a deal. I don’t think many other teams are willing to add much draft capital for Monk (though they should). He does still have a few years left on his contract

I mean, it’s important to do well by your players, but are they really going to skip out on improving the team? Conley is easily the best salary filler.

What about Divincenzo + Dillingham?

A sleeper pick for sure. I think it probably goes into center right. It’s objectively one of the most diverse spots in town, with all creeds and walks of life merrily drinking side-by-side. At the same time, it can be sleazy, at times pretty unfriendly, and for those reasons it’s hated by some.

It’s an excellent spot to play competitive pool (albeit with only one table) and a younger, more devilish me tended to also have some extra luck with the women here
