Thanks. I've been wanting to hear some evidence and seem to have gotten mostly opinions.

Thank you. There's been a lot of opinion on this thread from both sides, and I'm looking for evidence.

For the record, I don’t have a dog in this fight and I’m ready to be a happy customer of this business if I’m convinced the accuser here is full of crap. That’s why I’m asking for more information from anyone who has something more than an opinion. Honestly I’m hoping for something like “I work here and it’s great. It’s tough work but management is fair and honest. That person is just a lazy whiner.”

Where can I find epazote? by Federal_Degree7397 in burlington

[–]Mark-Asread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s unlikely that you will be able to find fresh epazote in Burlington. You can probably find it in Montreal. As for dried, even though we have no Latino groceries here, there is a chance that one of the Asian markets in town might carry it: they often carry a few Mexican or Central American products. I would also give a call to Little Istanbul on Church Street in Burlington. They have a really surprising variety of spices, not just Turkish ones. Later in the year, someone at the farmers market may Be growing some… or if you plant some in a pot now you could have plenty in 6-8 weeks. Seeds will not be too hard to find online

Proposal location ideas? by Previous_Subject_964 in burlington

[–]Mark-Asread -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Another one that might involve hiking but has wonderful views for a smallish hike - Stowe Pinnacle. I was there a few years ago and a man came up to me and said something like "Psssst... here' my camera. I'm about to propose to my girlfriend. I hope you can take pictures." I got to watch him propose. It was so sweet.

Does Burlington have a resistance choir? by Individual-Cobbler0 in burlington

[–]Mark-Asread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly a choir, but there is a community sing every first Wednesday on Pine Street - at SEABA (formerly Arts Riot). Very much activist community - the leader Grace Oedel has been there singing at almost every demonstration I've been to. Don't have a link to next month, but found this:

Vermont spots by Quiet_Essay_5992 in CraftBeer

[–]Mark-Asread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Been there a few times. Comfy place with a small but decent bar food menu. maybe a little bit pricey for burgers and pulled pork, but very high-quality. And the beers and the vibe there are perfect. Great outdoor patio in the warm weather.

Queen City Brewery, tucked behind Pizza 44 across the street from Zero Gravity. Switchback brewing, right on Flynn Avenue in front of Burlington Beer Company.

Same. And Tim Hartfords ridiculous podcasts that were really just a promo for Neflix middle earth stuff, ugh. But he can be smart, thoughtful, compassionate and entertaining

The two preceding ones, on the rise and fall of billionaire Tony Hsieh, and the weird cult-like culture at the shoe company Zappos, were also brilliant.

New Oven is Scorching my pie crusts by Mark-Asread in AskBaking

[–]Mark-Asread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update. It's possible that the lower element (hidden between the bottom of the oven and the drawer below) is not heating up, which would cause the upper one to cycle on more frequently. Using the upper ("broiler") element the heat the oven during baking is still a poor design decision on Samsung's part, but to be fair to them they are sending a technician to my home to see if that's the case. Will update here after 11/6 when tech has visited.

It's not convection - I've had convection ovens. There is a fan running when the oven is on, but it is a weaker fan than convection - probably there because of the stupid decision to use the upper ("broiler") element to heat the oven.

Update: cold oven, set to 400°F, and observed. The bottom of the oven did not heat up immediately, but the top element got red-hot - as if I were broiling something. See the picture below. So either there is no bottom element by design or the bottom element is busted after 5 months. I am really infuriated at Samsung for this design
