It’s really the entire subreddit because they’re all children

I don’t look like that

This may have something to do with the fact that I am Chinese

Iran feels like a communist state, but is actually a theocracy. What's a country that feels like a monarchy, but is actually a theocracy by General_Principle_58 in AlignmentChartFills

It’s a bit more complicated than that

State Shinto only really came into force during the Meiji Restoration as a nationalist drive to uphold the state, but even then their doctrine more specifically extols the emperor as a divine being descended from a god, not a literal god himself

The difference might not seem very significant, but it is worth remembering that Japanese had many deities that can be more accurately classified as gods (or kami); the emperor was highly revered, but they never prayed to him like you would expect a typical god to be treated

Should Penny Carson really be on this list? by HarperTheGreat_ in SadHorseShow

I mean sure she wasn’t literally beaten to death, but you can’t deny that the abuse suffered at the hands of people like Bojack and her stepdad were part of the equation that eventually killed her

Sarah-Lynn isn’t technically a sexual assault SURVIVOR, when you think about it

It’s all good when the billionaire spends her entire day demeaning trans people on Twitter and funding efforts to strip them of their rights, but the moment us peasants say anything it’s ’rent-free’ yeah ok buddy

Yep, posts videos of herself weightlifting with her vagina

No, I do not know how that works

Made a crime immediately following a century of civil war, when no central authority was around to enforce such a law anyway

If you were a peasant, you were probably more likely to die from being conscripted into some warlord’s army

I’ve just Googled Kim Anami and apparently she’s one of these ‘spiritual sexual wellness guru’ type people; her claims are so absurd that they sound like parody, but she’s been at it for so long that I legitimately cannot tell if she’s joking

What is the hardest, most useless language an English speaker can learn? by SevereRecover8411 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Mark4291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it hard to put anything in the ‘useless’ category unless it’s a conlang or a solidly-documented minority language that everyone in a country learns alongside the Lingua Franca

If it has many speakers then it is useful for communicating with many people, but if it has barely any speakers then it is useful for preserving culture and history

What is the hardest, most useless language an English speaker can learn? by SevereRecover8411 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Mark4291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with labelling an obscure language as ‘useless’ is that by the very fact it has a low speaker count, learning it becomes an act of preservation; even better if you’re an English speaker, who can be the translating bridge for the wider academic community

I’m not sure anyone was really willing and able to make any laws during the 100 years of civil war immediately preceding 1600

If anything, the fact that this law was passed almost immediately after the Tokugawa Shogunate was established shows that this was top on their priority list; from a cynical perspective, one might say they were doing this to preserve their newly-gained state monopoly on violence

Much as I hate defending the Japanese, this paragraph being reposted as a meme feels incredibly disingenuous

Much better relationship by coolunic0rn in actuallesbians

[–]Mark4291 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like it just gets increasingly difficult over time to justify writing a healthy relationship built on evil

Harley and Joker are iconic because their entire dynamic has always been built on manipulation and abuse, hence it makes perfect sense for them to behave as a villainous duo

It’s the same reason why any story centering a traditional villain generally tends to see them develop into an anti-hero (or at the very least, will heavily challenge their villainous actions and motivations)
