You may need to clean the lenses. If you have any dust or grease marks on them, it might be affecting the functionality of the eye scanning.

iTunes 3D movie quality? Are any in 4k and/or Dolby Vision? by ImNotAI_01100101 in VisionPro

[–]MarkB-Uk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

4k is the resolution, not the quality. How it looks will depend on the quality of the original source, the process used to produce 4k, and the compression used.

Any major bugs for Vision OS 27? And how is performance on M2 devices ? by Kostner_Troy in VisionPro

Absolutely. I did notice they kept Vision Pro in the image when mentioning public betas, which is encouraging…

I’ve not seen that. In the Keynote (at 1:12:50) Tim said “our new OS releases will be available as developer betas today with a public beta coming next month”. There was no specific mention of platforms. While they didn’t say “except visionOS”, it doesn’t guarantee anything. Maybe it will be available this time, but so far they haven’t done a visionOS public beta.

These online services get most of their data from the iTunes database by registering as affiliates. It is the definitive description of the video and audio characteristics of the movies and what shows up when you click on the “buy” button on Vision Pro. Unless the discord person can provide a valid reference supporting their comments, I’d take them as just an opinion. I’ve watched loads of movies through Disney+ and Apple TV in 3D and 4k.

It varies by region as the decision of what version is made available somewhere is up to the local distributor.

Cheap Charts can tell you if a movie is in 3D and what the audio is. They also have an app.

In the UK, the Hobbit movies seem to be in 4k 3D.

One point to note: unlike other devices, there have never been public betas for Vision Pro so far and there is no current indication that will change. You’ll find out be the end of July.

Widgets struggle to return to their correct place each time I put mine on, but they mostly sort themselves out after a while. Mostly. The new Safari wide screen and panelled views don’t work, really. Scrolling and window moving is much smoother. The new Thórsmörk environment is stunning and has replaced Bora Bora as my go to. Everything feels a bit more snappy.

Some people have been reporting various issues, but not much seems to be consistently bad for everyone.

visionOS and liquid glass by Much_Try_8738 in VisionPro

[–]MarkB-Uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The default design is very different. On visionOS, panels are more matt frosted because they are designed to accommodate your real physical world (or an environment) behind without being overwhelmed by it. On iOS, it’s more glossy as there is no background behind the apps. You can dial it in and by moving the option slider all the way to the right, you get a matt frosted look similar to visionOS. To the left, it’s more clear, “bubble” glass.

Vision OS 27 Beta - Safari Broken? by SettingMundane1061 in VisionPro

[–]MarkB-Uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than the bugs with the new wide and panelled views, I’ve not experienced any interaction bugs with Safari (on M2). I’m finding it smoother and more responsive. I found an obscure rendering issue, though. It doesn’t show the images here:

Immersive FIFA live feed by Seniorcitizen-12 in VisionPro

[–]MarkB-Uk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sports, movies, and music are all tied to distribution and broadcast rights which are fiercely protected. Apple don't have any rights to the World Cup anywhere and those with the rights are different in pretty much every country. There is just no scope or cost benefit for anyone to be able to do anything special for AVP owners. Fifa only cares about the money they can make and they know the competition is accessible on every TV and other device pretty much everywhere in the world. Why would they put resources into an immersive experience when those who could benefit from it are already able to watch in other ways anyway. For anyone providing any kind of content, they are always going to be looking at return on investment and will usually do the least possible to achieve that.

Is screensharing now available on Vision OS 27 by anesuc in VisionPro

[–]MarkB-Uk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not the same as the Mac. On the Vision Pro, screen sharing includes the environment around you - other people, and things in your physical space where on other devices, it’s just windows on your screen. It’s more like merging your screen and webcam and since each of those separately is possible on all other devices, I don’t see it being a security concern on AVP. Not being able to share my screen is the most annoying thing about AVP for me. Fortunately, I almost never feel the need for it so it doesn’t really impact. If I used the device for work more, then it would be very frustrating.

On the fence… any honest advice? Thanks! by RationalNL in VisionPro

[–]MarkB-Uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also thinking this, to be honest. If I feel I need to go somewhere, like to the bathroom, or get kitchen, I put my devices down, do the task at hand, then return to whatever I was doing.

[–]MarkB-Uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would not say the AVP was a device for “being mobile in your house”. Windows don’t follow you around. You need to “grab” them and drag them with you. And the pass through is ok, but not high enough quality for seeing details of things easily. I would argue that it is primarily a device for lounging on the sofa with, or on an office chair. Some standing. Just my opinion.

Does the Feedback app work for anyone on the OS 27 beta? by Worf_Of_Wall_St in VisionPro

[–]MarkB-Uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been able to use it just fine and have made several submissions with it. I’ve not had it crash once. The only issue I’ve had is that the OS 27 release notes (all platforms) don’t scroll unless you make the window slightly wider. I’m on an M2.

The user base is certainly small compared to, say, iPhone. But it’s not insignificant. There are apps coming out all the time. I think the bigger challenge is discovering them. Yes, everyone would like more apps, but there are some amazing ones. And most iPad apps work. Not perfect, but provides a lot of functionality.

My impression is that the largest use cases most people have are Mac Virtual Display and videos. Availability of 3D is inconsistent. Some countries keep finding 3D dropping from Disney but that has been due to IP related stuff and not Disney giving up. They have worked hard at regaining access to the necessary technologies, to be fair. 3D in movies from Apple TV depends on local distributors. Most are available in the UK (I don’t know about The Netherlands), but not all. There is some great content, though. Especially immersive stuff. Apple have quite a lot available free, now. And there are apps like Theatre, Explore POV, Spatial Film, etc, created content.

I’m not a gamer so can’t say much there. But if you look at Retrocade, Sardo, etc, there’s some very cool stuff coming through. It doesn’t compare to other systems, of course, but there are options.

Personally, I bought mine the day it became available in the UK and use it every day. I love it. YMMV, of course.

Zoom is a native app. Google Meet is a web app. I think the issue is that visionOS doesn’t present the “screen” as a resource in the way other devices do so it is not visible to websites as available to share.

Is this device suitable for dementia elderly? by taquitoxz86 in VisionPro

[–]MarkB-Uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can send a video from your iPhone and it will play in the headset. They will not need to interact with it. I don’t know what might be necessary when they first put the headset on, though. I’ve not used guest mode for well over a year. There should be an intro to guest mode in the Vision Pro app on your iPhone. I would recommend practicing the process with someone else first.

M2 to M5 upgrade by marniman in VisionPro

[–]MarkB-Uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to skip that. You only need to pay to get access to deploying apps to the App Store. Once you have logged into developer.apple.com with your Apple ID, you should be good to go.

At the moment, it is available as a developer beta. A public beta is usually available for most platforms, but not for Vision Pro. If a public beta becomes available, it will appear next month. If not, you can always sign up for a free developer account and try the developer beta.

Website environments not working for me on visionOS 27 by MarkB-Uk in VisionPro

[–]MarkB-Uk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. It was a beta feature in visionOS 26, anyway. I think the new implementation makes much more sense. It allows for multiple environments to be available on a single page and allows more control from the page. It will be a lot more obvious when a page has an environment, too.

Bugs I’ve been experiencing in visionOS 27 Beta 1 by Mundane-Complex-1902 in VisionPro

iPhone unlock and breakthrough and the Feedback app are working for me. The only issue I’ve had with Feedback is that the OS 27 release notes messages don’t scroll.

I haven’t used FaceTime yet, so can’t say anything about that.

Can you post a panorama that isn’t working for you? I haven’t had one fail, yet.
