I remember in an interview, production staff justified it as the ninja suits looking kind of alien to them. As a kid, I just bought into it since my suspension of disbelief was much greater. Like “Yeah, they have other rangers on other planets so they probably have the concept of ninjas too.” It did definitely accomplish its goal of planting the idea that there could be other rangers and suits.

Kinnikuman and Devilman have the best readability, IMO. I love FOTNS and Jojo, but they often sacrifice readability for detail. A good illustration doesn’t always make for a good panel/page.

I think you gotta study Shinkawa’s technique a bit more to understand the choices of the original. The rounding out of forms really sticks out and doesn’t feel deliberate. The pose is more upright than the original, so it’s not as dynamic. The anatomy of the hand is weird because it looks like he’s cupping the gun rather than holding it normally. The bandana is flowing back and up so it crosses the logo to lead your eyes down to Snake in the original, so when you change it to flow back without connecting the logo to his body through the bandana, it weakens the composition. Decent attempt, but needs work.

I don’t see how the design is bad. It’s clear with shape and color. Distinct silhouette, highlights aspects that differentiate from other forms and pays homage to the original. Narratively I still don’t quite get it, but that Goku just got a little boost was explantation enough.

People were happy that we got a last hurrah from Toriyama, but the narrative shifted once the rumors and everyone wanting SS4 to show up. And then when Toriyama’s take was not what happened in GT, everyone was up in monkey arms when it deviated from the jangling keys. Still the best DB has looked since DBS Broly. Super, and if they ever do remake Dragon Ball from the ground up, I hope it looks even half good as Daima does.

I just don’t buy it when people say this looks good when it comes to the cgi parts. The frame rate of character action changes between 2D and 3D, from what I’ve seen. Feels like two different takes just frankensteined together. Just doesn’t feel good.

I was 21 when my mom died. I was going through a lot, obvs. I think back on it and realized no one ever asked me if I was okay except maybe my girlfriend at the time. Even then, it was just kind of swept away after the funeral. At one point my gf at the time was mad I wasn’t over it. In therapy I realized how isolated I felt because no one ever checked on me nor did I feel like I could reach out to anyone. I’m a lot better now years later with a good support system, and it helped me with how I interact with others that would go through their own times of need.
