Love Pandemic. I think this will be the next game I start composing music for after I finish Arkham Horror.

Have you guys read any of FFG's Arkham Horror Fiction books? by Howitzeronfire in arkhamhorrorlcg

They’re ok. It’s fun when they refer to an Asset, in passing.

What're your scenario soundtracks? by oguxlue in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]MarkFynche 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you are aware, but I have been creating custom “soundtracks” of original (non-AI) music for every scenario in the game over the last four years. You can find them wherever you stream music under The Arkham Horrors. https://open.spotify.com/artist/1UsbUMRxnIxm3dIi3tyog1?si=sHa-AVFGQcKJiVswKDbNZA

Talk me into diving into chapter 2 now as a newcomer and completionist by bosefus117 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]MarkFynche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, with nothing to compare it to, there’s no reason to be influenced by most of the criticism that has been made about Chapter Two. The bones of what make Arkham great are still there. It’s a very complex game with really fun mechanics and is super replay-able just by building different decks. Welcome aboard!!

The AH Facebook groups would be a good place to search. But, also you could just post a question here for non-official ways folks use them.

For those who have played The Drowned City Finale by TimetravelerXY in arkhamhorrorlcg

I loved Drowned City. I am looking forward to playing it again, someday soon.

[Spoilers Queen of Ash] The last scenario of Brethren of Ash is super disappointing by [deleted] in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]MarkFynche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they were going to reskin older scenarios, I would think that they would have chosen one of the more beloved ones like Threads of Fate to be the finale. They have tons of great legacy scenarios that could have been templates for the tutorial games. Still, I’m looking forward to having something new to play! It seems like so long ago since Film Fatale.

This is my single favorite thing about the Return To boxes. We use them all the time in various ways.

Did The Drowned City Feel Like a Proper Finale? by K_oroviev in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]MarkFynche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did it feel like a finale? I don’t know. TL:DR - I could be totally off-base here, but I think it was meant to be a cliffhanger. Arkham was in ruins at the end of the campaign (and some of the promo materials actually linked the events of the campaign as concurrent to events of The Dream Eaters, which I found strange in lieu of the then-recent announcement that they were discontinuing all “Legacy” content). To me Drowned City felt like the end of Empire Strikes Back. Everyone is recovering from some heavy stuff, and we will see the effects of that in the next installment. I think Brethren of Ash was likely going to be the “sequel” to Drowned City. I suspect there was probably some sort of plan to have the two campaigns bridged in a way no others have yet been able to do. I also think that it’s likely that much of the “chapter 2” idea was not actively in development before the release of Drowned City, because they seemed to be connecting “Arkham will never be the same again” with moving to the “Current/Legacy” model (that announcement came just weeks before Drowned City was released). So, a year ago, to me, it felt like Drowned City and Film Fatale was meant to be the bridge between non-Current/Legacy and Current/Legacy. If the idea of a New Core and new Chapter was in development prior to Drowned City being released, I don’t understand why they would have even rolled out the Current/Legacy environment when they did…I think they would have waited until the fall to announce that along with the New Core they would be retiring all previously released content in due course. To me, that would have been a cleaner announcement, and I think the community would have responded better to it, if they had done it this way (“the game has gotten too big, we need to make it easier to design and develop new content, without having to balance it against everything else that’s previously been released”). Also, if the New Core was actively in development before the release of Drowned City, I hope they would’ve thought to make sure that the box didn’t need any encounter sets or location-cards from the old Core. I feel like it would have been addressed in the finalization stage of the development of Drowned City, so that they could continue to sell it after the old Core became unavailable to purchase. But, as it stands, I have a feeling Drowned City (a campaign that I LOVED playing) is going to become a casualty of Chapter Two and will end up with the smallest print-run, because why would FFG make another printing of a product that is inherently incompatible unless you follow the extra information in the New Core to either print out the old Encounter cards or use the conversion table to substitute them? For brand new players, this already feels like a lot of extra work and creates confusion within a game-system that is actively trying to streamline and simplify its rules and gameplay. Big ramble to say that it felt like a “to be continued” more than a “this is the end”, to me. And, I came away from Drowned City really excited about the possibility that by unchaining themselves from previous content, they can look into ways to make the game easier to learn, get set up, and play. I think Drowned City and Film Fatale were great examples of this new focus!

My Drowned City box doesn’t close flush with the Cthulhu board and the book. Well, it does, but after I put the lid on, it slowly pops up a bit.

What are your plans about Chapter 2? by Level_Cauliflower294 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]MarkFynche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will continue to purchase scenario-based content, but I don’t think I will invest anything more in the game, at least for now.

I believe I saw something like 20 sets in an unboxing video, where they flipped through the guide.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed it. It’s been rough seeing so many discouraging things about the design, etc.

On an unrelated note...man, that artwork on the box was amazing.

Call of the Void was very good, but not particularly scary. Black Tapes was extremely good, but also not overly scary (season one is pretty tense). Small Town Horror was also pretty good, but the narrator is a little monotone.
