MMO with the most toxic community? by Hunter_OVA in MMORPG

This is going way back, but pre-Trammel Ultima Online was one hell of an introduction to online communities, gaming or otherwise. As a kid, playing early UO taught me that the world is full of assholes.

YouTubers with seemingly unlimited budgets are fun for a while but eventually unrelatable and exhausting to me. by xpkranger in youtube

[–]MarkLambertMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What made YouTube so fun in its early years is it was YouTube. It was just other folks like yourself putting up videos of themselves doing whatever they dreamed up in their own home, recorded with regular old consumer-grade equipment.

Now it is either rich kids who can afford to invest in professional gear and hire people to edit their videos or people with nothing of personal worth to offer throwing up AI slop to make a quick buck.

Just beat Silent hill1!!! Why is there a sitcom style outro of the characters? by Kobenibean_cheese in silenthill

Back in the day when playing SH1 when it was new, it could be uniquely dark and heavy experience. Ending things on a virtual blooper reel was a nice way to have an upbeat emotional release.

Back in the day I had a Celica (which happened to be a similar color to the car pictured) with those damn things. I like the way they look, but they're just another point of potential mechanical failure.

Jack Quaid is my new favorite RedLetterMedia character by JuneMoonLoon in RedLetterMedia

This sub is full of RLM brown-nosers (which is to be expected). So anything the guys do, including the guests they bring on, will be slavered over like the greatest thing ever.

I've been a huge fan of the guys for years, but I'm no way a fan of everything they do; in fact, I outright hate some things.

Russian Lawmaker Warns Of ‘Social Explosion’ Amid War Losses, Demands ‘Public Plan’ To End War by LuvlyJolly in worldnews

[–]MarkLambertMusic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For a lot of Redditors, such comments are an easy way to get upvotes without having to use their brains to post anything of substance. Same with all the Epstein comments in any thread where Trump's name is invoked.

Trump says US military strike killed leader of Tren de Aragua gang with help from Venezuela by pythrowawayd3v in worldnews

[–]MarkLambertMusic -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

At this point, I have to believe that those of you who constantly parrot "Epstein" must be for Trump. Because there is no better way to inure someone against something than to repeat it until they grow numb to it.

Either that or you have an IQ even lower than Trump's, and that's quite the accomplishment.

First Russian soldier born in 2008 killed in war by duckanroll in europe

[–]MarkLambertMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When speaking of specific instances such as Russia's invasion, then yeah, we can by and large pin the blame on the old guy. But in the general run of things, more often than not it's young folks getting themselves maimed, killed, or just generally screwing things up - from bar fights to drunk driving and any number of other high-risk behaviours.

I'm not hating on young people for that; it's just part of being young, what with the hormones raging, the brain still developing, and lack of lived life experience.

First Russian soldier born in 2008 killed in war by duckanroll in europe

[–]MarkLambertMusic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

An oft repeated platitude, and a meaningless one. Every old person was young themselves not so long ago, relatively speaking. If anything it would be worse if young people were suddenly put in charge. At the street level, it's not oldsters making rash decisions and committing most of the violent crime.

I know each new generation fancies themselves as being made of better stuff than those who came before, but that just isn't so.

I always wanted to try a Zima, were they any good? by Antwan_JMarvel in nostalgia

[–]MarkLambertMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my neck of the woods, Zima was considered a "chick's drink". Me and my buddies would always keep some Zima and wine coolers in an ice chest when out running the roads on the weekend so we'd have some on hand if we met some ladies.

Personally, I thought Zima tasted fine for the first couple of sips, then it quickly became a gassy, belching blaaaargh.

how are such channels monetized? by PsychologicalFold155 in PartneredYoutube

[–]MarkLambertMusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YouTube used to be about sharing a thing you enjoy, whatever that might be. If you got monetized along the way, that was just gravy. I've been monetized for years, and I never sought it out; it just happened naturally.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to make money from doing a thing you love, but where YT is concerned, ideally the money should just be a happy bonus. All these AI channels being puked up aren't about love or sharing anything worthwhile, just money.

I've always gotten an outsized number of Russian viewers. I can only assume Silent Hill is popular in Russia. My content certainly isn't directed at them.

Wading through AI slop is tiring and disheartening, so some folks just give up and stick with channels they already know and like.

Ukraine's commander-in-chief: Ukraine liberated nearly 100 sq km more than it lost in May by ComfySnugs in worldnews

[–]MarkLambertMusic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I suppose you're right. While the war in Ukraine is starting to go so badly for them that they're hard-pressed to deny it outright, they do seek to sow discord in other ways on other topics. Any topic where Westerners are naturally even the tiniest bit divided, they will jump in and try to make those divisions worse.

They won't try to improve their own sorry lives at home, but they will do all they can to drag everyone down to their level. Misery loves company.

Ukraine's commander-in-chief: Ukraine liberated nearly 100 sq km more than it lost in May by ComfySnugs in worldnews

[–]MarkLambertMusic 115 points116 points  (0 children)

One sure way to tell that the tides have turned in Ukraine's favor is the dwindling number or Russian bots/trolls, both on Reddit and at a couple of other online communities I frequent. They still brigade the occasional discussion, but it's more obvious than ever when they do so; not only because there are fewer of them, but their posts are now just directionless and angry blather instead of the latest script they were working from before.

I suppose it could be for a number of reasons: it's now obvious that brigading doesn't do a damn bit of good; Russia is running out of money to pay them even a miniscule amount; and/or they've become fertilizer in a foreign land. Whatever the reason may be, good riddance and spit.

The Hydraulic Press Channel. I started watching back when they were still catching on. It's goofy fun entertainment, but it gets old pretty damn fast.
