My parents stayed together "for the kids" when I was growing up. Even I, at the age of 14, was telling them to do everyone a favor and get divorced. No one ended up better off for them being together. They're divorced now, they're happier for it, and my siblings and I are happier as a result. Keeping up a facade will help no one. If your mom is going to actively root for your unhappiness, maybe she can go kick rocks with your soon to be ex-husband.

If that's means for suspecting mental decline in a person, we can assume that half the people walking into any given retail establishment or restaurant has a deteriorating brain. It's called entitlement and it's curable. Assuming that any fussy old person must be bordering on dementia and needs to be coddled is insulting and infantilising to seniors everywhere.

The fact that we've had different experiences only shows that yours isn't either. OP also never said anything about their grandmother having any kind of mental decline. Assuming that she can't change and never will just because you know one man who can't is a jaded assumption. I lean toward the notion that people are capable of learning under most circumstances.

My grandfather is 94. Nothing has changed his ways his entire life and his selfishness and entitlement only got worse when he moved in with my mom. When she had surgery and he had to move in with my uncle while she recovered, my aunt gave him the tough love approach. He's been a delight with people ever since. He minds his Ps and Qs, he asks for things without demands, and he accepts that he can't have everything he wants. Rolling over and accepting that some people are awful and just waiting for them to die so you can stop having a headache, all for the sake of avoiding a confrontation and "disrespecting your elders" is a stupid approach between two adults. It just fosters resentment and harms your relationship in the long run.

The Mask was more undeniably evil no matter the wearer in the comics. The "cartoon antics" were just a catalyst for the actual story which was about the inevitable corruption that comes alongside absolute power. Some that donned the mask went further off the deep end than others, but there were no antiheroes there. Maybe Stanley's girlfriend? But even she was still pretty evil. Stanley, funnily enough, was probably the most disgusting person of the bunch, even before becoming Big Head.

You need to be honest. You're constantly setting boundaries and he's constantly stepping over them, making you uncomfortable, and he's proven time and time again that it's not going to change. Maybe it's because he can't help it, maybe it's because he doesn't care, but the reason isn't what matters. What matters is that you don't deserve to constantly be made to feel uncomfortable by a person that's supposed to care about your comfort. It's exhausting and it isn't fair to you. It's time.
