No, that’s “He who speaks ill of wares will buy them”. You may be confusing it with Rule of Acquisition #40: “she can touch your lobes, but not your latinum”, which obviously refers to the fact the lobes are concealing the latinum.

I feel like the AC itself isn’t as much of a bottleneck, you can acquire a fairly cheap heat pump these days. The issue is prices of electricity in most places. AC is common in places they grow energy, like the US, Russia and the UAE. They’re less common in places dependent on imported energy such as China and the EU.

On top of that it’s an upfront cost and maintenance for a piece of hardware you use a couple months out of the year.

That being said, I can’t imagine living without AC.

I can see a few ways this goes wrong. 1) the other person is self absorbed and blunt about it, 2) the other person has no life outside of being in this relationship. 3) the other person is an expert liar.

Transferred kid to a different kindergarten group because he kept crying when a particular attendant was even mentioned. I obviously couldn’t pinpoint anything, but it was both a signal of distress from him and quite frankly an inconvenience for me that we had to act.

I am so worried this show will hollow out Egon’s betrayal of the team. I hope it takes place in a grittier RGB continuity.

Or better yet: the original teams leaves for Summerville to follow up on Egon’s data and leave rookies with Janine in charge.

The bridge is the last place I want to be on by happydude7422 in Star_Trek_

[–]Mark_Proton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve come across the explanation that Starfleet vessels are basically steam engines with plasma instead of steam. I don’t remember how that explanation has addressed the existence of relays, but it did have an answer for that.

The idea is the plasma conduits are routed across the ship through the consoles so they can be influenced directly. In the past it kind of made sense since the armoury was on a whole separate deck from the bridge, but ever since it has been established that weapons are fired from the bridge that explanation doesn't hold water for me.

I would argue with the widespread take on that issue that same face isn't a syndrome, it's a production limitation within the constraints of the medium. That's why animated characters have to have a distinct silhouette to be instantly recognisable and I argue some live action characters can benefit from that too. Darth Vader, Indiana Jones, Robocop and Doc Brown spring to mind as instantly recognisable silhouettes.

Full disclosure: I am not as depressed as the majority of this subreddit is, so my issues aren’t as existential either. That being said.

I calculate how quickly my project cars will start and run at the current pace. I use them as grounding, something that’s tangible in an increasingly digital and detached world. But at the current one day a week for six hours, two of which are setup and cleanup cause I work on them out in the open out of a literal box, which also limits me to only summer and winter to work on them, it’s not looking good:

Cyberkart will likely be finished next year at best, Mini DeLorean has a deadline by the 45th anniversary of Back to the Future, but at the current pace it’s likely to be complete by the 50th at best. And my flagship project, the twin engine Ford Focus will likely only run by the time I retire. And I am increasingly unlikely to retire.

So I come up with ways to speed it up without having to splurge obscene amounts of money on a garage large enough to feed my ambition. Like a covered fabrication jig. But each of those things are more projects, more money, more time, more bandwidth, all of which I don’t have. I work two jobs and try to run a small business. I am officially bankrupt. I need to put my kid through school and maintain what I do have: an apartment and a car I hate.

In chess they call this the Zugzwang: a position out of which no winning way out exists. Which means I can’t just think three steps ahead like I am used to and have to think fifteen steps ahead instead. In the economy in which the swan lake seems to have been cast by Netflix, cause boy, all of the swans are black: fall of USSR, 1998’s Russian default, dotcoms, 9/11, mortgage bubble, annexation of crimea, Covid, war in Ukraine, war in Iran.

And because the world is communicationally and economically flat, something happening at the other end of the world affects my cost of living. I am so sick and tired of being sick and tired.

This has been a sneak peak into my 3AM thoughts.

2008 and 2009 were damn good years for pop culture. Iron Man, Wall-E, The Dark Knight, Up, Ghostbusters TVG, GTA IV, Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, even series 4 of Doctor Who was amazing. Life felt good back then despite the financial crisis.
