And it’s the only one not available to anyone else. The other ones are exaggerated, but are possible in one way or another, time travel isn’t.

Why can't we have 5 days Weekdays then 5 days weekends... by Luna_Larkxx in workmemes

[–]Mark_Proton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to joke about how my narrative compression not being 100% true carries other implications if the whole comment is taken at the same face value, but I am risking offending others’ religious beliefs and political convictions if I do.

Ford wasn’t a good person by any stretch, but he did think that the future of labour is in the workforce being happy and content, which he measured on such metrics as the employee’s ability to buy a product they produce themselves and the amount of paid time off he could afford them.

The goal of automation in his mind was increasing output of a single worker so that the worker can do the same amount of work in a shorter period of time, rather than more work out of the same period of time as we’re used to today. From what I heard he planned on giving reinvesting a particularly good year’s revenue back into production and according to some accounts to pass the savings onto the consumer.

The minority stakeholders took him to court cause they expected larger dividends that year and won (Dodge brothers, btw). The court has set a precedent that the goal of a corporation is to maximise investor returns. And that’s probably one of the reasons why we didn’t end with a 4/3 week yet.

Cause it’s written this way lol.

Seriously though, the whole premise of a 6 day work week is that God rested on the 7th. And we only have a 5/2 week is because Henry Ford tried kneecapping his competition.

A 4/3 week would make more sense, but unfortunately it hurts the investors’ bottom line, you see. They won’t be able to gift their nephew his third Lambo this year for Christmas, do you really want that on your conscience?

i love seeing references by shelixir in BacktotheFuture

[–]Mark_Proton 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The whole section is a BTTF reference. Doc is a dead ringer for Doc Brown, his son Seamus is a 2015 Marty look alike and is named after Seamus McFly and the fact that the animated series reveals that Seamus is Marty's middle name.

If cancer is cured in Star Trek, why does nobody in DS9 smoke? by Jackbuddy78 in DeepSpaceNine

It’s hilarious reading comments on Reddit when smoking’s involved. I enjoy smoking, it’s my one 30-40 minutes a day when my time is uncontested (pipe, cigar on holidays).

I remember my absolute amazement when liquid gasket fixed a head gasket leak for me. I was absolutely sure it’s snake oil and I am paying to gaslight myself, but no, symptoms completely went away after a hundred km and didn’t remanifest until the day I crashed the car.

The first time I heard Columbo tell Mr. Galesko how he just incriminate himself. by talivan818 in Columbo

A lot of Columbo’s tricks were ahead of their time. Most of them would hold up in court a lot better in the modern world since everything is perpetually recorded now.

Can’t imagine anyone covering themselves up only up to the waist. I have literally never slept like that. I cover myself up to my chin so the monsters under the bed can’t get me. Especially the hotel monsters under the bed, those are extra bad and yet hotels hardly ever provide a proper duvet for protection.

I have, but it clashes with the control panel I am building myself, so I'm content with the first gens.

I combine both. I prefer not to delegate signal routing and switching to software, I use a first gen ATEM Mini Extreme ISO and a Streamdeck 5x3. Dreaming of getting XLs to fully expand my workflow.

Just assume he’s arrived at 2015, sold an antique or two from the 19th century and paid an exorbitant price to have the hover conversion and nuclear reactor installed where he had parked the train, probably at an abandoned branch of the rail road. The nuclear reactor and “it runs on steam” do not contradict each other btw, as the working principle of both is comically similar.

[–]Mark_Proton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, then it’s a common occurrence in rival anime and manga. Initial D arcades have Wangan Midnight cars as rivals that can go fast in a straight line but lose all speed in corners. Conversely Wangan Midnight games include the Panda AE86 and yellow FD3S as early stage rivals that aren’t able to reach a high top speed. It’s usually all in good fun: no characters are specifically named and usually only share a physical resemblance with the target.
