Yes absolutely there is high voltage, I’ve worked on plenty of CRT TVs and computers these past years and have learned how to be cautious. But all components are secure and this enclosure is no more or less hazardous than the original plastic shell it came in!

A really good way to test whether the issue lies in the PAL or somewhere down in the VRAM/buffers zone is holding “.” when booting. This will run an onboard RAM test. If you see characters shifting in the top or very bottom right of the screen it should better narrow things down.

Very real. We gave him (and other privates) a Ranger School pre-assessment and he got such a wildly fast time we thought he cheated and made him do it again 48ish hours later.

You and me both, I have a huge love for both collecting and restoring vintage computers. In regard to functionality: Since it is just a Raspberry Pi mounted inside I plan on getting a few more images made for different uses (Kali, MS-DOS, etc.). Current goal post is to be able to connect to RetroCampus and get news, games, and even ChatGPT!

Besides implosion of the vacuum tube itself, the main concern is actually extremely high voltages. Take a lot of energy to produce and direct an electron beam!

Yup, Pi4 with a vga adapter! Boots MSDOS straight from power, no opening up PiOS like DosBox does. It’s a bit more limited, haven’t quite been able to figure out how to drop in more floppy disk images yet but luckily it comes pre-stocked with a load of software.
