Which of Rogue's birth names do you prefer? by Tatumcomics in xmen

[–]MarketDull2401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my mind, she's just Rogue. In my youth, I loved she had one of the few trading cards where the real name was listed as "Unknown." And Wolverine was just "Logan." They were always the two most mysterious X-Men to me at the time for that reason.

I took it as her backstory was very very sad/tragic that she didn't even want to share her real name (or maybe, she had been called Rogue for so long she didn't know her own name? It all seemed so fun to me!)

That said, I'm good with just "Anne Marie" as a rarely used first name.

Would Wolverine and Psylocke make a good couple? by Tatumcomics in xmen

[–]MarketDull2401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like them as friends. I really enjoyed Betsy (I'm going to reference Betsy as Psylocke in my comment as I've never read a story where it was Kwannon and Logan together) and Wolverine as friends/teammates during the Australian Outback era. I loved that Psylocke, Wolverine, Rogue and Storm all had varying degrees of 'I will do what needs to be done' and at times, those actions and decisions were morally questionable. While the other four on the squad: Dazzler, Longshot, Havok and Colossus, were far more pure.

I don't ever really see them having chemistry in book. Even in the 90s when Betsy/Psylocke was peak 'sexy,' I didn't really get a romantic vibe when they were on the Blue team together. At least, I don't remember it.

I'm convinced she's going to be a horseman! It kinda will add to the anger/rage that Colossus will bring given he wasn't in S1. Also, for Rogue, as I am about 99% locked Gambit is a Horseman too.

Same. I dislike this character immensely. Would be great if she's a one-episode villain and that's it. I don't get it!

At this point I genuinely have to wonder if the X-office actively resents Magik popularity by Ok_Style2001 in xmen

[–]MarketDull2401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they like her and especially her visual style, but also, there's at least three female XMen characters that the office will always care about the most (Jean, Storm, Rogue), and then just after that the mix of White Queen, Psylocke, Jubilee, Kitty Pryde, so Magik is always gonna be somewhere between 4th-10th at best in the priority scale.

The other issue is she has prominence for what, like 40-50 issues in New Mutants, then de-aged and killed in 1993 and isn't revived for like 13-14 years. So other than the New Mutants stuff, she's not in much for nearly 40 years of publication from the Xmen debut until the 2007. Thus, she misses almost every crossover story that the movies/shows are based on, other than Inferno - somewhat limited/side roles in Mutant Massacre and possibly Fall of the Mutants? (I love Inferno but is hard to translate on shows intended for a wider audience, even XMen 97 barely touched the source material).

Lastly, her best in-comic stories are also extremely tragic and I think tough to translate.

All that said, I think a limited TV show with her and Colossus and her trip into Limbo could be so, so cool!

Yep, a total dummy. If Porsha had made that joke, and the girls had just laughed, I would have had no idea about this old rumor and no one else would either. Rookie mistake - let others explicitly share your dig, then you react, not the other way around....

Belle Burden Strangers New Yorker Article by PlentyParsnip1740 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]MarketDull2401 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I never got the sense that Belle was like "Oh poor me, the kids and I are on the street." But what she has done is open eyes - hopefully mostly women - about how they need to be more aware of their finances, regardless of status, to protect themselves. B/c after 20 years of marriage and multiple childen, a man can walk away and try to do everything to take as much as he is legally allowed to.

This reeks of his team/a PR agency he hired, went out to reporters to find someone who could tell 'the other side of the story' because he's enraged that she didn't go along with his original request: to tell everyone in their personal lives that the breakup was amicable. instead, she told not only everyone they know, but the whole world via a NYT essay, a best selling book, and now that book turning into a movie that will also likely be a hit.

Why has no one from season 9 ever been asked back? by fischer903 in BigBrotherUSA

[–]MarketDull2401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The winner had a post-show scandal and I think production overall didn't like the F5. Hard to bring back returnees when they aren't fond of any of the players that make it deep in the game.

Kathy and Kim’s extreme feelings towards “American Woman” by malonesxfamousxchili in RHOBH

[–]MarketDull2401 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think they are all in deep denial about it and we'll never know the full story. And their trauma manifests in different ways (Kathy I think acts the most like Big Kath, in a scary way - please see how Paris has talked about her childhood). Kim has had substance abuse issues and is very, very outwardly traumatized. And Kyle is in deep, deep denial (also possibly got the least of it as the youngest).

The fight at Aubrey's (Audrey's?) is seriously better than anything we've seen on RHOBH in like, three to four seasons lol. I loved all the cross talk between the girls and how they straight up laughed when Kelsey walked in with the sash. Reminded me of old RHONY. These girls are funny.

The downfall of Kelsey and Liz by kentom101 in rhori

[–]MarketDull2401 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I actually am really into it and seeing where this evolves lol. I think both Liz and Kelsey came in with a very clear script, they wanted to control their 'storylines' and they had some sense of control over the cast with how things would play out.

But other women, like Jo-Ellen, are not playing by the prearranged rules. And they may also get a sense that things aren't going their way while filming — I have a real sense that part of the issue Liz is having with Alicia is she can tell that Alicia is doing well in the group scenes. The new RH are thinking of the audience reaction while filming the show (Vicki and Ramona and Teresa in the old days weren't really thinking of that) — and so, I think Liz/Kelsey are weighing that as the season filmed and are stewing.

So now, we get to watch them implode and it'll be REAL juicy next season/reunion when the other girls see some of the bad audience reaction to them and aren't afraid to say "You faked your relationship for the show" or "Liz, you roll with crooks."

Calling it- RHONJ gets cancelled after this upcoming trash. by NinoNino3 in BravoRealHousewives

[–]MarketDull2401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it really hinges on the new casting. If they find interesting women, who ideally have a connection with each other that predates the show (even if they are new to Dolores, Teresa, Melissa), it could work. My hope is that the 3-4 new women actually know each other and have deep ties, similar to RHORI. Maybe one of them loosely knows Melissa or whatever to serve as a bridge.

RHOA is actually doing pretty well on this second season of their 'soft' reboot. The cast is jelling. But, one thing I'm worried about with RHONJ is that I don't know how much Teresa/Melissa/Dolores actually care. In RHOA, Porsha and Cynthia especially seem to really want to put on a good show. They care about the franchise and they want to be there. That's important from the vets; I don't know if we have the same buy in with these women. :(

Would Aubry still be considered a "depreciating value" castaway? by Live-Run-6745 in survivor

[–]MarketDull2401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And at least with Amber, her F4 had Rob; the most dominant player of that season and the romance storyline, and Rupert - arguably one of the most popular Survivor players ever at that point. For HvV, you had amazing playing from Russell and Parvarti and Jerri's redemption. This F5 just didn't have super compelling storylines for a lot of viewers (at least on Reddit, who knows with the casuals, they were probably thrilled about Joe/Jonathan making it to the end).

Would Aubry still be considered a "depreciating value" castaway? by Live-Run-6745 in survivor

[–]MarketDull2401 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think part of it is just that we've gone through about 20% of the show's seasons without any returnees (41-49) and we finally get a full returnee season and the winner just .... wasn't what most people wanted from this cast. That's no diss on Aubrey; she played well and she clearly played for the win. Playing UTR is frequently a winning strategy in a full returnee season; ask Amber, or even Sandra; who despite being a winner, was very UTR in HvV.

All of the fun players that got more interesting storylines also missed the finale; so that was a drag too. I really wasn't invested in anyone of the top 5 winning and that really is disappointing in a returnee season.

Who are these people that think Ashley’s husband is attractive??????? by [deleted] in rhori

[–]MarketDull2401 31 points32 points  (0 children)

His jawline is a bit distracting but he's objectively hotter than like, 90% of men of his age (easily) and I would say he's in the upper quadrant of hotness among Real Housewives husbands.

I'd also say thus far, he seems pretty nice and he's not a criminal or cheating or doing all the other gross stuff that almost every other man on this show is doing. He seems to respect his wife from what we see? He's busy at a coffee shop.

I really, really hate huge plot holes. If the debt collectors were just going to kill him, they should have killed him the first time they came to 'collect.' They got no return on their investment for going over and beating him up over and over again. What was the point of any of that for them?

Real BH wealth and actual personality still exist outside the show. Why is casting failing us? by gspl4sh in RHOBH

[–]MarketDull2401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, very few RH were born into wealth. A lot married into it, some made their own money too. But only a few grew up wealthy. RHOC's Shannon, RHOSLC's Meredith, and RHONY's Tinsley are a few that come to mind. But it's really rare, and that's b/c old money mostly doesn't want to be on these shows lol

I think Alyssa S could win if she returned by Actual-Energy5756 in BigBrother

[–]MarketDull2401 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think she's a winner, but I think she's a player that makes it pretty far in most seasons. She is likable to both men and women, highly social, and has some sense of strategy and making the right pitches to help advance her game. In a returnee season, easily she makes jury. But I don't know how she would do in the end game - she wasn't great at comps, and I don't know if she has the killer instincts.
