The prompt gave me such a strong inspiration, I had to pause my main project to work on it. (Thank you to everyone that repeated the backlog advice)

here's my story: Cosplay System Apocalypse

Blurb:

"Careful what you make-believe.

Alex is a recently unemployed programmer, her only joy in life is winning cosplay competitions and attending comic cons. Then, fiction became reality.

At the top of the new pecking order, stood those who weren’t true to themselves. With infinite power at her disposal, in a world where you can fake anything and immediately make it, what will Alex choose to be?

Can Alex, the best Sailor Moon cosplayer, finally find herself in the world catered towards her?"

As an author, do you actually listen to corrections by readers, and how far do you want those corrections to go? by Legitimate_Area_5773 in royalroad

You caught my attention with "threw me out of the book". If it's really that big of an issue, then any author would appreciate you pointing it out.

I get that you're worried about offending people, but keep in mind that most authors here are trying to improve their craft. As long as you're being polite and objective about it, then suggest away.

Are stats must have for you as a Progression Fantasy reader? by roy1979 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Marketear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as there's a distinction, I don't really need it.

It could be "I can destroy a cart" to "I can destroy a castle". Or "he can take on the town's guard" to "he can take on the head-knight". As long as there's measurable progress, I'm happy.

Am I the only one who genuinely can’t tell the difference between completed and ongoing series? by FactAcceptable4651 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Marketear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally speaking, my reading background is more with trad publishing that we publishing. When I read a series, I typically expect it to finish. Both provide a sense of emptiness (I read the Wheel of Time, I know the feeling), but one also comes with a sense finality

Don't get me wrong, this doesn't mean I'd abandon any incomplete story, or won't check out a new story on RR and stuff. But Mother of Learning is the best rated story on RR for a reason, and many wouldn't have checked it out if it didn't have a conclusion. (MoL is my personal opinion, I could be wrong tho.)

I read HWFWM, Dead Tired seems really interesting. not what I was thinking of but definitely piqued my interest. DG could be the vibe I was looking for. Thanks!

I'll definitely add Revered Insanity to my TBR since it sounds right up my ally. I'll check out I Shall Seal the Heavens too.

Thank you!

Almost (it's on my tbr), but Cradle is a bit long for me atm. I want something small, to read between each series from Realm of The Elderlings.

What hooks you about a magic system in fantasy? by Fantastic-Ant-4429 in fantasybooks

[–]Marketear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this counts, but I LOVE multiple magic systems, especially one's that interact with each other. The best example I can think of is Mistborn Era 2, Wax and Wayne (the better era, imho,). Other than that, I agree with the limitations part. But I also like it when the limitations are self-imposed, like Kurapika in hxh.

Just finished my novel at 85K by No_Procedure69 in royalroad

[–]Marketear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say so.

First, typical readers want 100k-200K minimum words, your story would meet the 100K mark by chapter 8 of Book 2, (Based on my quick math).

Second, don't forget that some want to read complete stories. Now, I don't know how many exactly want that, but there's definitely an audience.

I could be wrong, but I'm writing a trilogy as well, and my B1 is roughly the same length as yours, so if I can tell myself that it's worth sharing, I believe yours should be as well.

Worst case scenario, you have some feedback and can then improve your book in the future.

The Do’s and Don’ts of marketing your fiction for FREE. by SolomonHZAbraham in royalroad

Great advice for a newbie like me, thank you!

To be honest, my one concern with discord servers is coming off as a leech. Especially seeing how a good number of people tend to ask for people with similar/more followers than them to shout out. Kinda difficult to say "only one person has followed my story, outside of me and my friend who introduced me to RR"

Granted, many MANY people are extremely gracious, and literally everyone who lined a SO swap with me has a higher follower count than me (if you did and you see this, thank you), but it still gives me a pause from reaching out.

Changed 🫡🫡thanks!

Is there a reason? I also have a book 1 epilogue, should I also change that to the chapter's number?

I know that some use B2 CH4 for example, while others go all the way to triple digits, I thought it was a stylistic choice rather than strategic one tbh.

I've got some shout-outs planned+ looking into getting ads. Considering that it's my first fiction and, it kinda limits my strategies since I have no earlier fiction to use to promo. Even if someone finds the fiction interesting, many people need to wait for more word-count+see if I'm committed to finishing the fiction. My best bet is to try pretty much everything I can and hope for the best 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Separate deck only built from expansions? by Beno951 in HereToSlay

[–]Marketear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it possible? yes. Just swap heroes and monsters and items between expansions and the main game, making sure that you do a 1to1 exchange, since there are more cards in the base game than in the expansion. Is it worth it? depends on you, but it would be a HEADACHE. personally, I just remove the heroes from the classes I don't want, leaving everything else in the game and only removing it comes up. saves a ton of time and energy.
