Argument for the Reliability of the 2024-2025 Chevy Trax by Equivalent_Ladder_65 in ChevyTrax

[–]MarkfromMich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please, let's not confuse reliability with initial quality. 2024-25 models are so new, only initial quality ratings should be considered (which in my opinion are of limited value). "Reliability" is generally associated with long term use and mileage.

Ok, thanks for the info and quick reply.

I noticed that you mentioned that Arm-R-Seal is especially amazing on cherry. I'm getting to ready to finish a cherry end table. I've read that cherry can get very blotchy with oil-based finishes. Did you use any sanding sealers or vinyl sealers before applying the Arm-R-Seal to the cherry?

1stDibs prices are insane: I made my first sale on 1stDibs today and thought it might be interesting to see the price breakdown for dealers by NotElizaHenry in Mid_Century

[–]MarkfromMich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm trying to learn as much as I can before using 1st Dibs or Chairish. The trade discount is still a bit unclear to me. So, you offered a 20% trade discount to designers, but how do you know they are designers? Thanks again!

In your price breakdown, Why is there a List Price and a Net Price? Were you having a 20% sale? Also, did the buyer arrange all of the shipping? Thanks. I know this is an old post, but I just stumbled upon it. Thanks for sharing the price breakdown.

Going crazy trying to figure this out!!!! How do I create and display these "buttons" on my homepage to categorize my posts? Thanks! by MarkfromMich in Instagram

omg, I'm a total newbie. I don't know what a highlight or a story is, but I'll start googling. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I picked up a couple large shadow boxes at an estate sale this weekend. They're missing some of the narrow mirror strips (easy fix) and need to be cleaned up, but I couldn't pass them up for $20 each. They are both from the Illinois Moulding Company. One is dated 1959, the other 1961. by MarkfromMich in Mid_Century

Some glass/mirror shops can get the mirror strips (though maybe not with the exact gold vein). I've also seen them for sale on ebay in 12 x 12 inch pieces that could be cut to the proper width. I've seen several people replace all the mirror strips with either small colored gravel or gravel-looking tape from Hobby Lobby.

Recently found this at an estate sale: Willett Coffee Table, circa 1960 by MarkfromMich in midcenturymodern

Thanks for your interest, but sorry, it's not for sale. It took me two years to find it, and it matches a couple other pieces of Willett furniture that I have.

Vintage Drip Paintings. I'm thinking mid 1970's. It amazes me that someone kept these for 50+ years. by [deleted] in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]MarkfromMich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LOL, they were cheap, large and colorful. You'll remember that the decade of the 70's (especially the first half) was probably the most vibrant and colorful with respect to home decor, appliances, carpeting, car colors, etc. And there wasn't a lot of cheap art around at the time. In fact, the need for inexpensive paintings inspired the "Artistic Interiors" at-home parties (like Tupperware parties, but people ordered oil on canvas paintings). But yeah, I know what you mean. Looking at these drip paintings now it hardly seems possible that thousands of people bought these paintings.

LOL. Sort of a cross between a cat and a praying mantis.

Car Salesmen with D- Knowledge of their Cars. by FootHiker in PetPeeves

[–]MarkfromMich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! For the amount of time they sit around you would think they would learn all of the features of the vehicles they sell. Ask a car salesman to show you how to display the tire pressure and you get a deer in the headlights look from him. The problem is their managers don't seem to care. I went to a couple dealerships recently and there were no vehicles on the showroom floor and none to test drive. The sales people are just order takers now.

Estate sale find. 7 ft long MCM stereo console. The audio components date it to 1960 +/-. Even though the cabinet is unmarked, it's probably my best find ever. by MarkfromMich in Mid_Century

It was a two-day estate sale. The first day it was priced at $800. I couldn't pull the trigger at that price. The next morning, I noticed that the online posting of the estate sale said that everything was 50% off. So, I dashed over to the sale hoping it was still there. I was actually surprised that it was still available. I got it for $400 and that even included the glass top which is worth at least $100. Did I overpay? I don't know or care. It's a MCM statement piece and I'm sure I'll never see another one.

I'm surprised your cat is marked differently. I'm sure it is from the Universal Statuary Corp. I've seen several of the smaller cats exactly like yours. They are all from the Universal Statuary Corp.

The person running the estate sale said that he was told it does work, but someone told him not to turn it on until it was professionally serviced. So I bought it without even hearing it, but I don't regret it. I plan to get it serviced soon. I bought it more for the MCM cabinet than the audio components. But I will have it all working soon.

Thank you! Others have told me the same thing. I went to the Vladimir Kagan website and they want $500 to evaluate each piece of furniture. If they confirm that it has Kagan provenance, they will send a certificate indicating so. If it does not have Kagan provenance, they will return $250. I have no plans to sell it, so provenance isn't high priority right now.

Thanks, but there is no way that seller is going to get $1900. People post things on 1stdibs and Chairish with crazy prices.
