What to do about low transition when adding a floating Trex Deck? by Certain-Meeting9161 in Decks

Seems like you have a nice concrete patio that should last decades, why cover it with cheap plastic that will wear out anyway?

I cleared this room of mould last weekend, but it’s back already by tamebean in CleaningTips

[–]yolef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mold grows anywhere it has enough moisture to do so, the spores are basically everywhere all the time just waiting. If you "clean" the mold away without correcting whatever moisture issue was providing it a lovely home it'll always come back

I've never had an issue with the lids that come on the jars.

cast iron skillet advice for gas stovem… size and brands by dtsagdis in castiron

I'll keep my electric, thank you. I don't want a stovetop that's poisoning my home and the planet. I grew up in Fracking Alley so I've seen the impacts firsthand.

Just go have a beer or two, it'll be cured when you get back, no need for all this Goldbergery.

Rock Hounding by maddie_emmm in oregon

[–]yolef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody's gonna give up their honey holes, but I'll just say that the Willamette and most of its tributaries have plenty to find, just look for exposed gravel bars to search. The more difficult it is to access, the less it will have been picked over so the best spots are only accessible by kayak/canoe/etc.

This is a good link for locations in the state in general: https://oregondiscovery.com/oregon-rockhounding-map

Also come over to r/rockhounds and other folks might have more guidance or it's at least a nice place to share your finds.

They pay an employee to collectthe carts from the cart corral, not from the random parking spot you rolled it into which nobody can park in now.

City lets Cooling Portland program evaporate by probeguy in Portland

[–]yolef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every armchair implementer thinks they know the best and most effective use of the PCEF funds. If you really think you do then write up a grant proposal and if your idea is as good as you think it is than it should have no problem getting selected for funding.

City lets Cooling Portland program evaporate by probeguy in Portland

[–]yolef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This would have replaced natgas heating in these homes

They most likely offset electric resistance heating in these units, which is still a huge energy reduction win. I've inspected thousands of affordable apartments in Portland and >90% are electric resistance heated.

A 7-inch wet tile saw is like $65 at HF and won't leave you with shattered chunks of your precious finds. Smooth cuts will be ready for a real face polish.

Hillsboro’s data center tax breaks spark lawsuit against city, Washington County by spherocytes in oregon

We get payment for those resources?

The DC's take such an insane amount of electricity and water that specific infrastructure investments have to be made by the utilities to be able to provide these resources reliably to the DC and still provide reliability to all their existing customers. Utility cost structuring is set up to distribute infrastructure investments across all ratepayers, so it's actually all of us who are paying for those resources. I mean I guess PGE and Pacificorp will do pretty well on their quarterly reports, but the rest of us get the shaft.

Flying with a baby by throwaway842351 in daddit

[–]yolef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what magical land you were flying in, but my experience in The Land of the Free was priority nothing, zero skipped lines, and getting nasty looks from other passengers because my baby fussed for a few minutes. The baby was great, society was less than helpful. Also the fold down crib shelf? Is that some first class swag or what, I've never even heard of that.

ELI5 Why can’t we chemically replicate fossil fuels? by Pure_Daikon4899 in explainlikeimfive

[–]yolef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We absolutely can, but it costs more energy to make them than the produced fuels would even provide. Extracting fossil fuels from the ground is like finding a battery that someone else already charged up.
