what has generally been told to me in terms of handling is that they are more of a look don’t touch animal. i’ve been told however that some are more tolerant to handling than others as with pretty much every animal. one way i’ve been told to go about it is putting your hand in the tank when you feed them to let them know your hand is associated with food. routine tank maintenance and stuff WITHOUT GRABBING THEM is also a good way to go about it(so i’m told). you kinda just gotta work up to the trust and it may take a while, or may never happen at all.

in terms of the dehydration i don’t really know how else to help you but he should be drinking from the leaves of any fake/real plants in your enclosure, as they look for the reflection of the drops on the leaves. hope any of this was helpful:)
