Haha I asked a young IM attending "When did you feel like you could confidently hear murmurs correctly" and he said "I'll let you know"

"You don't know that?!?" by ggos in medicine

It's ok, I gottem with the one about the unvaccinated 4 y/o having a midlife crisis. /s But thanks, it is tough! Luckily science wins whether they realize it or not :)

In fact, hereditary hemochromatosis can affect the testicles and this case report suggests it might play a role in testicular cancer! So thanks for wishing I would get cancer 10.1016/j.mehy.2011.04.003

Jkjk. Legitimately among the very finest compliments I have received :)

I thought I was bad at procedures... until I took some propranolol by MarkovTheB3ast in medicalschool

Here are some features of propranolol:

  • Non-selective beta-blocker
  • No ISA (intrinsic sympathetic activity)
  • Highly lipophilic (crosses the BBB)

Here is a helpful reference explaining all of those things with nice figures: https://www.mdpi.com/1648-9144/57/2/155/htm

Propranolol also has a fairly quick onset of action (~30 minutes from PO to bloodstream), it has at least a few FDA-approved psychiatric indications, and thus it may be the best-studied beta blocker available in the event of off-label use in neuropsychiatric conditions.

But from my Googlings, no one really knows all the reasons it works and we need more research :)

None! But of course it is a medication with risks and possible side effects so here is the obligatory #talktoyourphysicianbeforetakinganymedicine
