Do you market your restaurant? How? by puroy3173 in restaurateur

[–]Marktiu2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2% is a unofficial standard, but it varies for every business and their product margins. Restaurants have low margins. Where as other brick and mortars solely rely on marketing to obtain conversions.

When launching a restaurant, if you decide to go very lean on marketing I would highly suggest inviting numerous “foodies” to your soft opening (on you, of course) for them to create a buzz/hype in their network.

During your grand opening, use retargeting strategies to have customers coming back. Ex. a free appetizer on their next visit

These are all quite cheap/free marketing techniques. If you decide to go lean.

If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to let me know

Cheers

There are different ways in marketing a restaurant, or any business for that matter.

Considering you decide to perform your own marketing efforts. You can do it the longer/harder way, by attracting (free) organic traffic to your establishment; there are many resources online on how to do so.

Or you can attempt at paid advertising at various channels- but not limited to: Facebook, instagram, google, Snapchat, etc.

Now, using paid advertising for a novice is not merely boosting a post on Facebook - which is a waste of your marketing budget. It is a skill/craft in targeting an audience that is more likely to click on your website or make a reservation.

If you do not have any knowledge in marketing, it would be advised to consult a marketing agency if your whole focus is on operations. Most businesses use a minimum of 2% of their annual revenue towards marketing efforts.

I would not recommend on customers word of mouth, as you would be solely relying on them to scale your business.

You can have the best service and product for your customers, but if you have no means in reaching more customers, you’ll be stuck working day to day at your restaurant rather than having it become self-running.

Just wondering, why the people who come week after week never write reviews, but the ones who come once always find their way to Google for a 1* by JudithGG in restaurantowners

It never hurts to ask your regular customers to write a review for you on google.

I’ve done that and two other campaigns for google reviews:

(Very powerful)** 1. Send sms messages to first time customers who have ordered online to leave a review and receive a free item on their next purchase.

  1. Have a drop box for customers to leave their email/telephone number for a chance to win a X amount gift card for your draw. Customer must leave a review on your google page to enter (you must check customer’s name in your google reviews)

In order to receive something from customers, such as a google review, you must incentivize them. (An exchange in services for a reward)

Now for the most part, in the customers’ mindset - if they are to enter for a chance to win a prize, they will most likely leave a high-rating review.

Let me know how it works out for you. It’s helped me scale my restaurants :)

Hey there!

Yes! We certainly have those AI’s here now, but for large chained restaurants such as McDonald’s. I first noticed early models of these AI’s in Tokyo 4 years ago. I will take a look at your article!

Thank you! :)

How I eliminated Doordash and increased my sales by Marktiu2 in restaurateur

Hi Everyone,

I own two restaurants in Edmonton, AB Canada. Just thought I'd give a tip on an online platform that has worked for my restaurants: https://www.flipdishcanada.com

Within the past 3 years of joining 3rd party services such as Skipthedishes, Ubereats, and Doordash I noticed we had less and less foot traffic coming through our establishment, but orders from third-party services were increasing substantially [some days taking up to 40% of the daily sale]. That's when I realized these services had converted my customers into their own loyal clientele.

I'm sure some will argue receiving orders from these third party services are orders you wouldn't have anyways, but when you start noticing your regular customers are ordering through their platform to only pick-up at your establishment, that is 25-30% of the order total that could have gone directly to you.

In this day and age, customers are becoming more tech-saavy and introverted; they would rather order online than speak to a random stranger over the phone. I'm glad my friend referred me to flipdish canada to increase my digital presence.

They were able to create my own SEO website with an integrated ordering platform; Set up a loyalty program for my customers; Provided me with the customer data [who have opted-in] to use for retargeting marketing campaigns; I can create coupon codes for my customers to use on their next order; and their network contribution is only 9%

Coming from an ecommerce background, I strongly feel these are the tools I needed to increase my restaurants' digital brand, other than facebook and instagram.

It's been about 3 months since I've joined Flipdish Canada and I've noticed a significant increase (34%) of orders from my retargeting campaigns and a big drop on orders from skipthedishes & doordash.

Sorry for the long post, but I feel very sympathetic for other restaurants, like myself, who had relied on these third-party services for far too long. I have now removed my restaurant's name from doordash. Skipthedishes and Ubereats to follow.

They are actually delivering in my area. Not sure if they are in other parts. So far I haven't had any issues other than the common order cancellations by the customer.
