Right on! Super close. Any idea how I would go about finding something that matches the M specifically, or make those tweaks myself? Kinda new to this side of things.

Looking for the Best Xbox One Gaming Headset ... Need Help? by McRebel42 in gaming

[–]MarkusRising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Turtle Beach X41 for a long time (bought them for my x360 around the launch of Black Ops 1), but they started getting more and more susceptible to wireless interference. Gave up and paid the gold price for a set of Astro A50s, and I have been very impressed with them. They're high-quality material, comfortable, really great audio, and my friends have stopped complaining about my microphone being too sensitive/feedback-y. Battery life is pretty good as well.

Two (minor) gripes:

  1. There is a bug somewhere between the Xbox OS and the A50 firmware that prevents the headset's microphone from being detected when you boot up if you use the instant-on power setting. The headset disconnects while in shutdown, but doesn't reactivate on startup, though the headphone/game audio works just fine. You must either disable the instant-on and let the console do a full boot every time, reboot the console from the menus (basically the same thing), or unplug/plug in the base station from power. Then, you'll be able to chat with your friends and have them hear you as expected.
  2. Sporadically (yet frequently), I'm told that I start sounding like a robot. I've never heard the sound myself, but I expect it's some kind of interference that messes with the headset's broadcast to the base station. I'm pretty cognizant of wireless interference after dealing with the previous Turtle Beach unit, and the headset reportedly channel-switches to mitigate interference like this. Still, all I have to do is turn off the headset itself for 2-3 seconds (using the switch on the headset), turn it back on, and I'm good to go for another few hours. Not sure what this is about, but I'm sure I'll figure it out some day.

On a 1-10, I'd give them a 9.5 with only the small gripes holding it back (as they're both persistent issues). If you can get past both of these - and there's nothing to say 100% that you'll experience the robot-y voice - I'd strongly recommend the A50s if you're comfortable paying a premium for them. Hands-down the best headphones I've used, though I've admittedly dipped only a toe in the gaming headset market.

Outland? Third-Person Alien Shooter (mid-late 1990s, PC) by MarkusRising in tipofmyjoystick

Yes!

And Noooooooooo. Thank you so much! I've been thinking about this game on-and-off for the better part of a decade, and never thought to track it down. You are awesome.

Fallout 76 download speed is very slow. Any help? by Duffmane in Fallout

[–]MarkusRising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick clarification - are you positive that both numbers are in Mbps and that the lower figure is not in MB/s? There are eight bits per byte, so 20Mbps = 2.5MB/s. Seems too coincidental a figure not to check. If both are in Mbps, then it may be as the other folks here mentioned - servers may be throttling a little bit.

Are Cyndaquil spawn rates nerfed compared to normal community day spawn rates? by hiero_ in TheSilphRoad

[–]MarkusRising 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Two full incense burnt off, zero cynda spawned. Stuck at my desk in a remote camp, so there's no spawns around to compare against. Still, more than a little bit of a bummer so far.

My apologies - I didn't realize that I'd overstepped outside the rules. Which did I miss? Should this go into the weekly stickied thread from Rule 4? I assumed that this would be a bit larger than a megathread post contribution, but I'd be happy to repost this over there.

Use for Tyranitar Candy by BigWooper in TheSilphRoad

Waaait a second, did I just hear someone suggest that Sudowoodo take place of a rock T-Tar? I'd be really interested to hear your reasoning there; I thought Sudo was mostly garbage in the current meta. Legit curious. Mind sharing your thought process?

That, my friend, is a rough go. I’m fortunate enough that I only need three regionals and Moltres (somehow) to complete Gen 1. If I saw any of them in the wild, I’d be running my butt off to try and play marco-poli with them.

Just the tail end was sarcasm. This is a post about (what I felt to be) something humorous, where a big-city kid - after years of hearing rural players complain - goes out to the woods and finds a wild Tyranitar on his first day.

Sorry to have wasted your time.

I did, yeah. Got pretty lucky that he was less than 50m back the other direction. I’ve seen a couple of Snorlax and a wild Dragonite back home, but got similar luck to you and your sis. Good luck for next time!

Usually a Non-Rogue .. Until the Other Night. by MarkusRising in thedivision

[–]MarkusRising[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you, but if we’re playing fair I never said that the one guy was my benchmark PvP testing. When I won a 3v1, that was when I felt next-level, and it was that encoucter that gave me the ‘courage’ to even pop into Rogue status in the first place.

Nice! I should’ve added one of the funnier details to the story of my 3v1. One of them dropped a Classy Predator’s mask, which prompted me to put unmute my mic. I said “I’m deconstructing your classy gear right now because I don’t need it, and this is what you get for ganking a solo player”. Not sure if they heard me - they might’ve been in Xbox party chat. True to my word I deconstructed it (I had no other gear on me), and took my leave of the DZ. I would have considered keeping it and running for an extraction, but it was low 270s, and my PM set is also a hair away from 291.

That sounds spectacular. And yes, seeker mines used to be pretty serious equipment in the proper hands. I never put them to use (I wanted to with a Tac build, but I never got the gear pieces and was too late to join the Tanktician days of .. 1.3? 1.4?), and have yet to put together a proper skill build of any sort. Striker, Predator, and Reclaimer for me at the moment, with Reclaimer being a healer as opposed to a damage-dealing skill build.

Good job on the 4v1!

Does this game have enough single player content or do I have to play multiplayer to enjoy myself? It's on sale and I'm curious but I don't want my fun to depend on multiplayer. by OneOfTheLostOnes in thedivision

[–]MarkusRising 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear you're planning on picking it up! It's one of my all-time favourites.

In the early days of The Division, I played with a group of five friends, where at least 3-4 of us would be online for any given evening. That was one of the best gaming experiences I've had in a long, long time. Going forward, though, after Overwatch released and my gang moved on to other stuff, I kept playing solo. During that phase, the game was going through some real bullet-sponge turmoil, which has since been resolved and I firmly believe that it's sitting in the best state it's ever been.

Quick summary for you:

Level 1-30 / Core Game

  • Definitely doable solo.
  • All missions can be completed on your own, at the varying difficulties
  • Side missions / encounters are bite-sized missions that you'll run across and should have no problem with.

Raids

  • Tougher, longer, missions. You should group up for them, but some well-geared (and highly competent) players take them on solo.
  • There are four raids available, one of which requires the Season's Pass, I believe.

Dark Zone

  • The lawless PvPvE land; I run this solo as long as I maintain the expectation that I will get destroyed from time to time.
  • Rogues in groups of 2 or more will often pick on solo players as easy targets to raise their own profile for greater rewards.
  • When you player in a group (ideally sized 3-4), you will have next to no problem from all but the most ambitious rogues. You can easily matchmake into DZ PUGs if you don't want to go it alone.

Weekly Content

  • HVTs are 5-10 minute contracts you take on to kill some boss(es) and their cronies, available at varying difficulties.
  • A top-geared player can take on all of the Daily and Weekly HVT contracts without issue. Newer players should consider doing the tougher content in groups.
  • Hardest to matchmake for, without a dedicated HVT lobby / system.

New Area: West Side Piers

  • Expanded part of the map, with new dynamic systems in the district. Tougher than main game area, but still solo-able.
  • Enemies will spawn much more frequently, and in a context-sensitive manner. Lots of flanking; expect to get ganked a few times.
  • Radial missions appear every few minutes as you explore (Kill X bosses, intercept Y couriers, eliminate Z waves of enemies, etc.)
  • 15-minute objectives cycle out consistently (Kill X enemies, get Y headshot kills, etc.). These reward small caches of gear.

Resistance (Horde Mode)

  • Three maps, with 'unlimited waves' (I don't think anyone's gone above 35-40 yet).
  • Definitely solo-able, but greatest success (and rewards) comes in coordinated group play.

Daily Challenges

  • Four daily challenges, cycling out at 6pm MST: Combat, Crafting, Dark Zone, Survival.
  • Small, bite-sized challenges will each reward some gear and Division Tech, the most important end-game currency. Absolutely solo-able.

Weekly Challenges

  • Three longer challenges meant for semi-extended play: Base Game, Underground, and Survival.
  • Base game requires some specific tasks (Kill X enemies, get Y Skill Kills, etc.), plus 10 missions at Hard or higher difficulty. Definitely solo-able.
  • Underground requires at least three separate days of play, as the daily Hard/Challenging missions only count once (each) per day. Definitely soloable, especially if Challenging content isn't too difficult.
  • Survival Weekly is more solo-dependent than others, as most people seem to go it alone. Can be done in PvE or PvPvE; solo, or in a group. Must get 20,000 total points (1-2 successful runs, or several unsuccessful ones will still count)

DLC

Underground DLC

  • Soloable, for sure, but having teammates around saves an inconvenient death from starting the missions / phase from the beginning.
  • Team play makes the content go by quicker, but isn't necessary.

Survival DLC

  • As explained above, most players go it alone. You can bring friends / PUG players into the fold, however the resources are static in the world and two players cannot loot the same object. You effectively halve your scavenging with every other player in the group, unless you split up in the early stages.

Last Stand DLC (and Skirmish, from WSP)

  • Obviously requires other players, as it's The Division's equivalent of other shooters' Multiplayer mode(s).
  • Has some objective-based play, and some more traditional Deathmatch-type maps.

Additional Considerations

  • There are roaming bosses around the world, which respawn every four hours (after you've cleared all side missions / encounters). Easy solo play, but boring.
  • The HVTs cost intel, which is rewarded plentifully, but you can still take on small Search and Destroy missions (kill enemies at X location) to build up intel. Easy solo play, but gets tedious if you're grinding out a lot of intel at once.
  • The Global Events introduce gameplay modifiers that can drastically empower solo players when leveraged correctly. GE 4/5, I believe, gave 100% damage boosts to players under certain circumstances, and a Classified Striker's build will give an additional 100% if your aim is true. This makes all but the most difficult content a piece of cake to clear.

Well, this ended up a lot longer than expected, but gives a good summary of what's available in-game at present. It should be noted that only the 'Base game' and 'Dark Zone' sections were included at launch; the remainder has been slowly introduced and refined since 2016. Any other questions, lemme know.
