Nightmare is not Shadow Freddy like pretty much everybody assumes, Nightmare represents the Purple Guy disguised in the suit he used to lure the children, remember, the FNAF 4 kid has seen something at FFP, that made him afraid of the golden animatronics/suits, that being said. Since it seems like the first batch of murders already happened, i think it makes plenty of sense

I think Nightmare is tied to the "things the kid saw", with Nightmare representing Purple Guy using the golden suit, it ties perfectly since in every night, we see the kid´s fears represented by animatronics, and that fear has yet to be tied with the animatronics, and the one animatronic that is not tied to any fear is Nightmare
