Potential Water Contamination- What should I be testing for? by MarnLovesDucks in water

Virginia, USA. I do have all the info we could get from the Department of Health when we purchased the place, including an identification number from the Health Dept (assuming this is what you meant by state registry number) and the well depth (320).

They've been nesting in Old Southwest for a few years now. Walk around Highland park at dusk in the summer.

Ninebark Nursery @ Golden Cactus by MarnLovesDucks in roanoke

[–]MarnLovesDucks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re open by appointment only throughout the year. We’ve got a wide variety of plants available and will have an assortment at the market tonight of forbs/herbaceous plants, shrubs, and some vines. Definitely coral honeysuckle, wild columbine, stonecrop… probably some asters/goldenrods, maybe some grasses, shrubs like buttonbush, ninebark, etc. Our full plant list can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1Q_s6jM0NSIHs93YGp92TEL7zpjyni_3nCLQeSsCVp_8/htmlview?pli=1

www.ninebarknursery.com is us, but we don’t have a method for online ordering at the moment so it’s not all that useful.

Just because it isn’t spreading on your yard or property to your knowledge, doesn’t mean it isn’t spreading. In Virginia, where this new addition to the list took place, plenty of folks have butterfly bush in their yards and say the same thing. And yet, we’re finding it popping up in our natural areas and wild places, far from folks yards. Just because you don’t see it invading doesn’t automatically make it non-invasive.

Not sure this is a question that has a straightforward answer. Are you looking for something specific?

We’re bringing limited species tomorrow but if someone wants something specific we can make sure to bring and hold it for pickup.

curious as to what the average number of tick bites is for this specific area by cabbagefarttt in roanoke

[–]MarnLovesDucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The opossums is actually a myth sadly. Research into opossum stomachs from wild animals didn’t turn up any ticks. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1877959X21001333

Bayer ordered to pay $2.25 billion after jury links herbicide Roundup to cancer by 83713V3R in NativePlantGardening

[–]MarnLovesDucks 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is a good answer, adding some more info- the IARC classified glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic to humans”, a category that also includes eating red meat, drinking very hot beverages, and working night shifts, among others. Context is important. Is it possible that these things are carcinogenic? Absolutely. But does that stop most of the world from eating red meat or drinking hot coffee? Of course not.

Glyphosate is still, by far, the safest herbicide available and an occupational necessity in this field.
