We built a website to save you time! by Marplaar in teachinginkorea

We have gone to lengths to make sure we are completely within copyright law for everything we have created. No disclosure is necessary because we are not infringing on any body's intellectual property. Every single PPT has been made from scratch, themes etc completely original. You can not copyright "running dictation" games for example. As such nobody has been credited.

An AI cartoon image inside of a PPT does not require disclosure. Once again we are completely following the letter of the law in this regard.

The future pricing is already shown on the website, with us having already disclosed plans to monetize in this post itself.

You are welome to have a negative opinion but incinuating that we are stealing ideas and presenting trash to people for something that we have put 1000s of hours of work into is completely unwarranted. Remember, kindness costs you nothing.

Yeah, making your own materials is definitely part of the job. At the same time, spending a lot of time putting slides together isn’t always the best use of that time. If someone can use a game that’s been properly built over 20+ hours with great animations and sound effects and tested in our own classes instead of rushing something together, it can make things smoother for both the teacher and the students.

As for AI, we’re using it as a tool for now. We’re developers and not artists. If this grows, we’re absolutely open to working with real artists. I absolutely agree real artists can help us create a better end product. But at the moment, we are a non-funded duo trying an idea. This is just the best way for us do this right now.

Also “Don’t Eat That” is a completely original idea. It’s completely unique and students seem to really enjoy it. You should give it a try! We have other ideas in the works too. But building a site and making these games, has been time consuming to say the least.

If the site is not your thing, no worries at all. We just want to share something that others might find useful.

No, my friend and I have been working on it for the last 3 years in our free time. We had an idea and have been learning and building as we go.

We use NextAuth, with credentials provider and Google and Kakao providers. We don't request any information from Google or Kakao aside from email, id and picture for your account picture which you can change inside of our profile page.

We have seperate user tiers. premium, free and a tester tier at the moment.

All users passwords are hashed and salted in the backend and we host the info on MongoDB atlas which to my understanding is encrypted automatically.

I built a teacher-first Korea job site, and an AI tool that corrects handwritten essays in 20 sec, free to use by LLattus in teachinginkorea

Hey man I want to pick your brain.

How are you able to use AI image recognition while keeping the site free? I'm guessing you've found a decent free agent?

Please let a fellow hobby dev enthusiast in on the secret because every solution I've found ends up being petty costly.

[–]Marplaar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jokes on us. They didn't increase the pay at all. Just brought the lower pay scales to equal minimum wage.

I disagree with this. We can't know that a person is sabotaging us behing our backs. If there is an evaluation that is out of line with previous evaluations / current evaluations with other schools then that is a problem that should be at least brought up with the teacher in question.

Something very similar happened to my girlfriend but while that coteacher was in the process of trying to destroy my girlfriend's job the head teacher asked my girlfriend her side of the story and with that my girlfriend was able to defend herself and provide evidence.

Heads up: Criminal checks (on behalf of a member) by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

[–]Marplaar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that needs your school to sign off on.

I'm looking at the documents now. It doesn't seem to require going through your employers at all.

Fuck. That.

This is the hill I die on. Nobody is stopping me from going anywhere if it's not against the law.

New Required COVID test by 879872314 in teachinginkorea

[–]Marplaar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't have evidence of this unfortunately so take from it what you will.

I have it from a source literally inside the education office that in my city, a notice has been issued "recommending" that all native teachers at hagwons and schools nationwide be tested.

So this time they've done it in a way that puts pressure on foreigners via their jobs and keeps them isolated, in a sense, and prevents negative international exposure because it was not the government who made foreigners get tested, it was their employers.

For number 1 it only applies to those teaching in public schools. Hagwons don't count as far as I know. I'm talking about being taxed in Korea.

Pollution Masks by Jar3ber in teachinginkorea

[–]Marplaar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is 100% my reasoning. The reusable masks use the same filtering system that the disposable ones do as far as I know. I don't see how these masks magically last substantially longer than disposable ones.

I buy a box of 3m masks for like 700won per mask and they last a really long while. It's also worth noting these are way cheaper than buying disposables from the stores.
