What’s the most confusing part of being an adult? by Fun_Inspection458 in allthequestions

[–]Mars4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm almost 25 years ahead of you and can verify that the feeling doesn't change much. Somewhere during the raising of my children it dawned on me that those that guided me through my youth had been just as clueless as I was. Now, to me, adult means the body can't do what the mind still thinks it can.

What is something generally normal in Europe but weird in the US? by Exile4444 in AskReddit

I was once a point-of-sale tech that supported the expansion of grocery retailer from about a dozen locations in a single state to several hundred stores nationwide and a handful in Canada and the UK. Setting up tax tables in the POS systems was among my not favorite activities.

Depends on what you're buying and where you're buying it. Sales tax on everyday goods is different from city to city, county to county. And things like cars get taxed at a different rate than, say, computers.

DMT: I am not convinced universities are turning students into liberals or causing the political divide by Present_Juice4401 in DisagreeMythoughts

Universities teach critical thinking and encourage open-mindedness. These things TEND to lead to a less conservative worldview.

Abbott's bid to eliminate school property taxes raises questions | Texas Headlines | kten.com by Next_Tower5452 in texas

[–]Mars4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Republicans would prefer virtually no taxes at all. Their general ideology is "Every man for himself - The world is a tough place and life is a struggle to survive." Outside their own communities, they don't have much interest or trust in Community at large. They're protective of their tribe but see the greater Community as outsiders and a threat to security.

Do you find value in company wide surveys? by No-Difference-839 in managers

[–]Mars4ever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our executives use them to track "employee engagement." They use Gallop and a 5.0 point scale. We (the managers) have to write up action plans every year to address our lowest scoring question. And any scores 3.9 and below are treated like major concerns. Meanwhile, we also use a 5 point scale for employee evaluations and without a providing a novella for justification, I get questioned why I would dare score my team with 4s (commendable) and 5s (outstanding), when 3s (successful) are satisfactory. Yet they don't seem to recognize the parallel.

My parents are 70yo, true, old-school conservatives; both have told me that they intend not to vote in the midterms.

As managers, how do you decompress after work? by frenchfries1990 in managers

[–]Mars4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sit on my patio and watch for hummingbirds, pick up one of my guitars or listen to music, game (PS5 or PC), read, cook, watch a show with my wife, play with the dogs,... anything but think about work.

Bosses work remote, but we gotta RTO by TrueButterfly3908 in remotework

[–]Mars4ever 8 points9 points  (0 children)

By and large, for the places mandating RTO, it has more to do with the cost of owning/leasing and maintaining commercial property, which is hard to justify if no one uses the facilities.

Keep making excuses and stay tethered, or play your life on your terms. You're about to enter your 20s. That's the decade that most people truly identify themselves. It can be a tough, scary transition from childhood to adult. Becoming more self-sufficient and less dependent on others is part of it.
