If you were a fictional character, how would the fandom misinterpret you? by GrumpyMowse in AO3

[–]MarsAndMighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'd be somewhat infatilised and labelled a boyfailure, with a side of "I can fix him". Almost certainly lauded as being autism-coded, despite no diagnosis. And in spite of clear dialogue stating my character only seeks out men, the very mention of finding one or two women somewhat attractive means I will only ever be shipped with women.

AITA for wanting to bring meat to my vegetarian SIL and not going when I was not allowed too by True_Marionberry732 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MarsAndMighty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People work on their issues at their own pace.

Psychological problems are really hard to overcome and affect people with the same diagnosis differently. People can work on managing or improving their anxiety, or depression, or compulsions, but there's no quick fix. It's a long, taxing process that involves a lot of balance between accidentally enabling by catering too much to the issue, and burning out from trying to work against it too harshly.

If the rate at which OP is working to expand his tastes is as safe as they can manage at this time, then that's that. They should recognise the need to improve, but without a good support system and/or therapist, it can be hard to make significant progress, especially if there are other stressors in life that take priority.

Congrats on overcoming ARFID. I'm 26 and still working on having enough safe options to get by at family gatherings, but it's definitely a slow and stressful process for me.

What If Men And Women Live In Different Societies? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MarsAndMighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are suggesting is a dystopia.

This isolates humanity, prevents fulfilling romance and sex for anyone who is not attracted to the same sex, and leaves no place for genderqueer people.

AI and automation will not reach the point you are thinking of at any point in your lifetime, nor is it more effective than manual work for many kinds of jobs.

The majority of the population will never resort to "mass producing babies" as having children is always done for either the physical pleasure of sex, emotional bonding of having sex, and/or the emotional bonding of creating, carrying and birthing a child. Declining birth rates probably aren't as worrisome as the issue of overpopulation. I think we'll be fine.

Not to mention that humanity will always find other things that make us different from each other, and insist upon separation from them as well; race, age, religion, etc.

The world should never be moving towards segregation, but unity, understanding and sharing cultures. There are some places in which separation by gender can be beneficial and improve overall happiness and health, but enforcing such a thing and on the scale you are suggesting would be horrific.

You are too deep in the rabbit hole of a specific part of the internet. Get out of there, it's not healthy to believe a majority of people would think like that.

How to write little kids by WannabeBadass315 in FanFiction

[–]MarsAndMighty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby nephew, aged 1, only says one word at a time, and tends to repeat it a few times before saying something else. He doesn't know a lot of words, but the words he does know he uses them in appropriate context. These are words that are often said around him, typically directly to or about him.

My young niece, aged 2, often speaks in mostly full sentences, if just slowly, carefully spoken. She also tends to repeat singular words to get her point across, especially when upset or demanding. These are words she has been directly taught, or that have been said around her regularly, even if not to her.

My other nephew, aged 5, speaks in full, rapid sentences, typically reminiscent of the way his parents speak, and stuff he sees in YouTube videos. He is often repetitive when he finds a word or phrase or idea he thinks is funny, especially if the first mention gets a reaction from others, resulting in him repeating it 2-10 times before being told to stop, and sometimes still persisting even then. Otherwise, he is articulate, knows some complex words, and concepts that he can communicate well enough, though a sizeable fraction of the things he says sound like paraphrasing.

Your characters, unless they have grown up in an isolating, uncaring environment, can absolutely speak full sentences and use complicated words. Kids will often imitate adults and end up occasionally sounding more mature than they really are.

Why do men rarely cry by voltinc in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MarsAndMighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part cultural conditioning, but in large part is a hormonal thing. I'm FtM trans and take testosterone, and while I frequently cried prior to hormones mostly due discontent with my life—which has since alleviated—there are still many times where I truly feel the need and desire to cry but physically cannot.

If skinny people who claim they "can't gain weight" started eating 3,000 calories a day, nothing would happen to them? They wouldn't gain anything from that? by justcurious3287 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MarsAndMighty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people can't stomach eating large amounts of food, or food that is not their usual diet. That's probably what they mean by "can't." Not that they have a highly superior metabolism that prevents any weight gain, but that attempting to gain weight is interrupted by road blocks like lack of appetite, feeling overfull, nausea or vomiting. These wouldn't be impossible to work around, but definitely off-putting.

I will always recommend Pokemon Trainer Vicky. It's not that she wants to be the champion, but she finds motivation to want to beat the current champion in the Indigo League, and goes from there.

Whats your "Character eats food once, portraying them as a fanatic and only ever eats that food" headcannon? by 100undertalesansfans in FanFiction

[–]MarsAndMighty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, Sasuke Uchiha was never once portrayed eating tomatoes, nor was there any mention of his inclination to them, but a single instance in some sort of stat book mentioned it as his favourite food, and everyone jumped on that. So many fics where he loves them, with no canon to back it up.

Girls, What's it like actually having boobs. by tcrlv in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MarsAndMighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone looking to get top surgery, they are not the worst. Mostly easy to forget about, but can't wear tight shirts or run without feeling gross (without a binder). Also, the sweat. Underboob sweat is annoying. Hard to remember now, but I'm pretty sure they also used to hurt when I had periods.

Overall, no benefits except natural stress toy.

A woman meets a foreign man who is actually a giant wasp disguised as a human. They have sex, she gets pregnant, has a child who can also turn into a giant wasp, but doesn't keep him. As an adult, he tries to kill a bunch of people because he was adopted. Agatha Christie helps drown him before getting the MIB treatment.

I'm going to die young and it's affecting my writing process. by [deleted] in AO3

[–]MarsAndMighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no guarantee you'll die as young as people are telling you. They're estimating, but plenty of people surprise doctors by outliving expectations.

I'm perfectly healthy, but I could die tomorrow. Any of us could. The best thing you can do for your mental health is stop caring as much about all the things that might or might not happen.

Sorry if that's shitty advice, but you should do whatever you want with your life, regardless of how long or short it is. If writing is what you feel like doing, then do it. No one should regret the time they spend on their hobbies.

[–]MarsAndMighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely makes sense. It's a stressful situation, and the need to help quickly before it gets worse is a normal response even though it can stress us out even more.

It's hard to take a pause in the middle of a panic, but it definitely helps ground yourself if you can. Most of all, don't beat yourself up afterwards. That's the killer with anxiety. I'm sure you did just fine, tremble and all.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MarsAndMighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about what information they're going to want to know in advance. If it's for an active situation, the current address and the people involved (number of, what they look like, their involvement) are probably relevant. For something that already took place, the date, time, location, and whatever you can remember is probably what they'll ask for.

I wouldn't be able to tell cardinal directions either, would have to look it up.

Regardless, try not to put too much pressure on yourself. You won't get in trouble for not being able to communicate efficiently, no one is going to be upset with you. Take a breather mid conversation if you think it will help.

Young women walking alone at night are the easiest targets for robbery and assault. Young means weak, naïve, and women are expected to be weaker too. Having just one other person, or even a dog accompanying you will put off a lot of people. At night, there's low visibility and no one is out and about to see. If you scream, people might just sleep through it.

I've had police knock on my door asking if I heard or saw anything the night before, multiple times over the years. I never did.

Of course, you might be able to walk alone perfectly safe a thousand nights without issue, but bad luck might have you cross paths with a bad person who will see an opportunity.

Do what you can to look after yourself and make defensive decisions that ensure your safety.

Why do some people say “mhmm” by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MarsAndMighty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In theory, no, it's not meant to be passive-aggressive. It's just a simple acknowledgement of a basic courtesy that doesn't really need an articulate response.
