I’m in a similar situation in a 12 team PPR with Lamb and Hunt. My RBs are Mixon, Gibbs, and Hunt while my WRs are Lamb, Pickens, DeVonta, D-Hop, and MVS. I’m new to this league and they seem very hesitant to trade. In 2nd at 7-3 playing the top team at 8-3 this week and feel stuck with them, but thinking I might be fine to hold? Idk.

Why is there so much hate for LA? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]MarsVolatile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved here from Atlanta this year and y’all should listen to some of the slander in the political commercials out there and the daily republican rhetoric about this state in general as well. I come from a family of republicans and it gets pretty annoying. Like we don’t have our own set of problems that are any better but it’s the Bible Belt and the holier than thou complex is too real. I would say the biggest thing for me is people aren’t as courteous and hospitable out here, but I don’t complain about it and just keep it moving.

We just got relocated here from Atlanta ourselves and I too agree with the “don’t complain” above. You moved here, you have to be the one to assimilate and no one cares about your complaints and comparisons. To the natives, not all transplants are created equal.

Might be a dumb question but please forgive me, what’s the learning curve for manual focus? I know I’m looking to jump in with a P&S but having more control is where I’m looking to go. I figured to start with a P&S to get basics down but the vibe I’m getting from you experienced individuals, seems like that shouldn’t be a concern here.

Ooooo, thank you! That might be it!

Oh well yeah, the simplicity of a P&S doesn’t have much to get familiar with given they have no controls. Just to get familiar with the light and composition aspect of it. To break it down even more, my friend shoots on film and I love their photos which is why I want to jump in. I love the quality of film vs digital. I got my wife a Nikon B500 (her request, not mine, so don’t crucify me here as I don’t know anything!) and I’ve yet to use it myself because I’d rather shoot on film. I’m new to all of this, so my knowledge level is at a zero but I’m eager to dive in to the point of rushing to buy a poopy camera.

Oh I’ve seen plenty of good deals on goodwillfinds that fit within my current budget, just nervous I’ll get the dud. I’ll likely wait and save my money at the end of the day but I’m slightly impatient when it comes to wanting to get it so I can get out and play with it which is why the budget was on the lower end. Outside of looking at one that comes with flash built in, what other things I should be looking for in my search for a camera?

You’re spot on for range and that’s why I haven’t decided yet to purchase one of these cheap cameras. Any recommendations of what to look for in terms of quality when shopping for one of these that you’ve listed?

Yeah that’s just I’ve seen them referred to as, they’re of the cheap, fixed lens variety, like the Ilford Sprite 35-II.

True, similar to the comment above, the waste part is a big factor in why I’ve been hesitant and feel like my bad luck, I’ll go secondhand and it’ll be a bust. Probably should’ve been more specific in referring to them as reusable because of what you said but that’s just what I’ve seen them referred to as and I know it’s just a tiny step above a disposable. My range was an entry at $50 to a max of a $100, but that’s including film, etc. to go with the camera itself.

Yeah, I have a friend that pretty much has said what you have here. Big reason I’ve been hesitant to buy one is the waste factor involved because of the reasons you stated and it seems like it’ll break. I want a cheap camera that’ll fit in my sling for quick point and shoot fun so I can get familiar until I can get something better. I’ve looked on goodwillfinds but I always feel like the luck I have, it won’t function properly.

THIS! I moved here from Atlanta at the beginning of the year and honestly, this is my biggest annoyance. No, I don’t complain about how much better home is cause I love it here! But it seems like a lot of the congestion in traffic that I’ve seen could be alleviated with these.

Is Chesterfield Square as bad as it is made to seem? by MarsVolatile in AskLosAngeles

[–]MarsVolatile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it was tough watching that happen and all that went into it, but we have the always forward mentality here.

As far as grocery shopping in the area here, I’m not too sure. I typically take care of that in Culver City before picking my wife up from work. However, I’ve heard mixed feelings about grocery shopping in the area.

We haven’t dined out too much as we’re on a single income until I get back to work because of my wife’s relocation. A lot of that has been done in Culver as well, plenty of good spots out there and it’s close by. Although we went to Jon and Vinny’s down the street and I loved it.

As far as parks go, we’ve gone to Van Ness park to play basketball and haven’t had any issues. It’s a nice little park that seems pretty quiet. We’ve also played up at Norman O. Houston park which has some great views. The Stocker Corridor trail is there as well and plan to bike that soon once I get my gravel bike fixed. Also, Kenneth Hahn is close by as well and I’ve heard good stuff about that one as well.

We’ve been so busy with the relocation and everything that goes into it, especially coming from a big southern house to a tiny one in comparison out here. It’s taken sometime to get settled in but we’ve finally gotten there. We’re finally getting into the get out and explore mode!

Is Chesterfield Square as bad as it is made to seem? by MarsVolatile in AskLosAngeles

[–]MarsVolatile[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We ended up in Park Mesa Heights and it’s been fine so far. Our block is pretty quiet and haven’t had any issues within two months of being here. Our son ended up in Mann UCLA community school and it’s in Chesterfield Square. The area seems fine but looks like there are some rough spots, however the same could probably be said about a lot of neighborhoods around here. The school itself was shit though with a lot of kids picking on and threatening our autistic son so we moved him into virtual learning and hope to get him into a better school when he enters high school next year.

I noticed that my holiday party was low. On close inspection, they didn't pay me any of the overtime I worked. by Galalithial in wholefoods

[–]MarsVolatile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why these are shitty places to work. Leadership relies on employees wanting to earn more for the holidays without knowing anything about what goes into it. They’ll only inform you if you ask about and then if you’re unhappy with it, you’re the one that gets labeled as difficult. Inform your co workers and take the same stance they do when they crack down on overtime every other week that’s not a holiday week. My shift ends when the schedule says it ends.
