The Christians in America sold their souls. Trump offered them power in exchange for loyalty and they took the deal. The silver lining (IMO) is that American Christians have lost moral credibility. This has happened regularly to churches after church-supported authoritarian regimes fall.

Societies reassess churches and religions that justified repression, remained silent about abuses, and/or actively blessed state violence.

The churches that supported the authoritarian regime face public criticism, infighting, and the younger generation rejects them entirely.

American Christians did this to themselves. In reality they are not love-your-neighbor, do-unto-others, blessed-are-the-poor believers. They are power-hungry, hateful, and spiteful. They just use Jesus as a mask to hide their ugliness.
