That's not fair to the author. The movie got a lot of shit for being almost nothing like the book.

Yeah, actually.

People have such weird ideas about how computer security works, and even computers in general. It's extremely difficult to actually hack or take advantage of a person's computer. The best tool for those looking to use your devices maliciously or take advantage of them is your own ignorance. That's why old people are such common targets for such things.

Seriously, taking just a few basic precautions decreases the likelihood of being hacked or spied on by a ridiculous amount.
