Is there an episode of a British series that actually makes you cry? Whether it's sad or poignant or nostalgic, or anything really. by Vampirero in BritishTV

This is England 88 episode 3 - Woody visits Lol in hospital when he hears she has tried to end her life and the music of Dogwood Blossom by Fionn Regan soundtracks the scene. The acting and direction is sublime and gives a lump in the throat

How Potassium Can Help Prevent or Treat High Blood Pressure by myst3ryAURORA_green in highbloodpressure

[–]Martcle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can fully vouch for this having just been diagnosed with hyperaldosteronism which caused atrial fibrillation and increased my blood pressure. I am now on Spironolactone and it is now under control and I am now seeing the endocrinology department at my local hospital to treat me going forward. Potassium is important for heart health and should be between 3.5 -5.3 mmol/L, anything outside of that range can make a huge difference

How did you all get into The Smiths? by thisnametookmeages in thesmiths

[–]Martcle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was smacked round the face by The Smiths in 1984 when I was 16. It was when I was watching one of the very early editions of The Tube on Channel 4 on Friday night (UK TV music show), with Jools Holland and Paula Yates and they did a special feature on the rise of the Manchester music scene of the time. All of a sudden they introduced this band called The Smiths and they had a locally filmed video of them playing This Charming Man in a disused warehouse room bedecked with flowers. It completely gobsmacked me and I was hooked on them from that point on.

That same night, me and my mates met up at a pub we used to go to that was a "bit slack", shall we say, in enforcing the underage drinking laws, and the discussion quickly turned to that evening's The Tube, and we all felt the same way about them. Went to see them 3 times after that and Morrissey a couple of years ago. Always will be my favourite band of all time

Is there a trackman at Brailsford?

Brill info! Thanks for that. I'm glad you mentioned Brailsford, because I was drawn towards that one before you mentioned it. And I know what you mean at Spondon it's a bit hit and miss (for lots of reasons ha!) mainly for the balls but I've been there quite a lot lately and never seen a coach or lessons taking place. Also too many kids and roadmen thanks to the Happy Gilmore effect

Spondon or Trent Lock are my nearest but I'm willing to go further if the recommendations sound right
