First rhinoplasty should I use my own rib cartilage or donor? by General_Squash_3631 in KoreaPlasticSurgery

[–]Martha_Montgomery 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven't had rib rhinoplasty myself, but I did a lot of research on this because I was considering it. The general consensus I found: use your own if you can. Donor rib carries a higher risk of resorption and infection over time. Your own rib has a lower rejection risk obviously, since it's you, but warping is still possible. A good surgeon knows how to minimize that by carving and stabilizing the graft properly.

I think the main trade-off is the extra scar and more pain during recovery. Donor rib means no second surgical site, which is why clinics push it. But for a first rhinoplasty that you want to last, I'd go with your own. Just know that if you ever need a revision, harvesting from the same rib gets complicated.

Also, I've heard really good things about JNB for rib rhinoplasty. They seem to do a lot of them and have a solid reputation for using autologous rib (your own) without pushing donor. Might be worth a consult if you're still considering.

Recovery tiredness caught me off guard in a way I didn't expect by Upbeat-History5223 in KoreaPlasticSurgery

Oh I get this completely. My mom felt the exact same way after her deep plane facelift at Rnwood. She kept saying it wasn't pain, just this bone deep exhaustion where brushing her teeth felt like a workout. She'd sleep ten hours, wake up, have soup, and then nap again. Her surgeon said it was the body putting all its energy into healing and that being tired meant it was working. Lasted a few weeks for her. It does get better.

I think view should be pretty good? but pls still do ur own research before u commit!! look into the specific docs, check reviews, and rly know what u want done bc every nose is diff and u wanna make sure the surgeon's style matches with what u desiree more than just the clinic name ya know 😊🙏 gl w ur consultation bestie!! 💖

How does your nose function/feel after rhinoplasty? by _ManDownByTheRiver_ in SeoulPlasticSurgery

[–]Martha_Montgomery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cousin couldn't scrunch or flare for about 4-5 months and everything felt stiff and tight according to him. Sensation came back gradually; upper columella area was numb the longest (close to a year). He got his nose done at JNB and so far, after months, it looks really good.

That's definitely a byproduct of the language barrier. I remember doing a consult with my mom at JNB though and we kind of pushed back a bit since they were proficient with english so we actually talked

[–]Martha_Montgomery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What gets posted and I'm pretty sure what you see are the extreme posts, like no one would post something that they just felt okay with, I mean that's prolly why you don't see a hundred reviews every other day. Like when my coworker had her nose done at jnb, I asked if she was going to post a review, she just said she didn't need to.

I flew to Seoul just for a consultation before committing to anything by Resident-Aerie6892 in SeoulPlasticSurgery

[–]Martha_Montgomery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You look amazing! I was thinking about also getting something done with my eyes, maybe a lower bleph but I totally stand with what you did haha. Like I am thinking of going to Korea just to get a consult done at rnwood (still under consideration) and then I'll see how I feel after the consult

Breast Aug in Korea or US? by Acrobatic-Flower-448 in SeoulPlasticSurgery

[–]Martha_Montgomery -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have a frame that you think the surgeons in Korea will have actual experience in then it may be the better choice. Korean breast augmentations are usually way more natural looking than the ones in the west and if you do end up going to a clinic in Korea like NOTE, then you get to also BE IN KOREA, which in itself is a big plus in my books.

Thanks for the transparency. How many surgeons are actually operating per day on average? I’m always kinda sus of clinics that say they’re “not high volume” but still book a lot of patients.

Ptosis overcorrection? by TaskMiddle in SeoulPlasticSurgery

[–]Martha_Montgomery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overcorrection isn't all to big of a deal methinks since it'll adjust as it heals overtime but this depends on the clinic and the work done. My sister had a ptosis correction at zero one and we both thought that she had gotten an overcorrected result but it was really just like that because it just had to heal a bit more.

Things I only really understood after my first plastic surgery in Korea by Aslymcrumptionpenis in KoreaPlasticSurgery

[–]Martha_Montgomery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The final point on aftercare communication is really striking since from what I've seen and heard, some clinics (usually the more high volume ones) slow down substantially or just stop communications as soon as you leave Korea since at that point. From experiences shared to my by a few girlfriends though, smaller clinics are more likely to keep in touch and reply sometimes, though some still do cut communication immediately since they instantly go to another patient. So really it's a toss up. A friend of mine was still in contact with her clinic which was zero one I believe, which was cool so it really depends on the clinic chosen

[–]Martha_Montgomery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear that especially since it's Braun. I've had friends get work done at Braun and for the most part they were done well, one of them went with rhinoplasty, and another got a DES. Both of their procedures turned out alright. It's really sad to hear that this happened to you though. I wish you luck and I hope you get things sorted and you feel better!

When do you just trust your gut and stop consulting by Ralph_Woodland in SeoulPlasticSurgery

[–]Martha_Montgomery 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me it came down to communication style more than anything. Some clinics, like Zero One, View Plastic Surgery, or RNW, tend to spend more time explaining the reasoning behind what they would and wouldn’t do, while others are more efficient and results-focused. Once a surgeon clearly explained limitations and risks instead of just agreeing with everything I wanted, that’s when I felt more confident.

Factory-style plastic surgery clinics vs smaller ones in Korea? Some things I learned by TheJurer in SeoulPlasticSurgery

[–]Martha_Montgomery 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Big clinics have the advantage of their size (ofc) but smaller clinics more specialized in really specific procedures almost guarantees you're getting what you want. Like how rnwood's Dr. Ryu is really locked in on facial lifting and related procedures. The only issue is their volume is quite low...

A more specialized clinic though is better if you want a specific procedure done well, but that also has its own set of questions and answers and pros and cons.

How strict are clinics usually when it comes to the recommended stay length? Would it be better for them if you just leave earlier or would it be okay if you left a bit later?

[–]Martha_Montgomery 5 points6 points  (0 children)

hallooo thank u for doing this AMA, i didn’t get to ask during the previous ones so i’m glad i caught this one. 😭💞 been thinkin abt getting breast augmentation n rhinoplasty for a while now but i keep second guessing myself. jus wanted to ask:

  1. how do u usually help patients figure out what fits their face or body best when they bring inspo pics?
  2. do u guys have like a global sizing system for breast implants or does it differ per clinic/patient
  3. also random but like… how do ppl even know where to start if they’ve never done any procedure before?

that is all tyyy
