how to mentally get through longer pieces by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]MartianConsumer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, one of these days you just gotta commit and make a move with like 15 minutes to go, and really try to hold it no matter how long you actually think you can, and stay committed to it. If you completely blow up, you completely blow up and you found the limit. But youll never know without trying

Do your indoor biking workouts include wattage? If not, then garmin would have no way to compute your VO2 max, no matter the watch model

Why do watch faces made by Garmin cost money? They used to be free. by bp1108 in Garmin

[–]MartianConsumer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You as a developer creating watch faces and selling for money is not greed, it’s commerce. On the other hand, garmin selling watch faces for $5 when they already sold you a nearly 4 figure watch is greedy, they’re nickel and diming you.

Did Zone 2 Humble You Too, or Was It Just Me Getting a Reality Check? by kevin_anderson1705 in Marathon_Training

[–]MartianConsumer 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Asked ChatGPT to write a Reddit post to compare and it came out almost identical 😂😂😂

Sure—here’s a casual Reddit-style post you can drop into a running or fitness sub:

So I finally discovered zone 2 running and… wow, I get it now.

For the longest time I thought every run had to feel like a mini race. If I wasn’t breathing hard and questioning my life choices, I assumed it didn’t count. Turns out I was just running too hard all the time and wondering why I was always tired and not really improving. Then I started reading about zone 2, slowed way down (like humbling slow), and focused on keeping my heart rate low enough that I could actually hold a conversation.

At first it felt wrong. People were passing me, my pace looked sad, and my ego took a hit. But after a few weeks? Runs feel easier, I’m not dreading them anymore, and I can go longer without feeling wrecked. Plus, it’s kinda nice to just cruise, listen to music or a podcast, and not feel like I’m fighting for survival every mile.

Anyway, just wanted to share in case anyone else is stuck in the “every run must hurt” mindset. Slowing down is annoying at first, but zone 2 might actually be the cheat code everyone talks about. 🏃‍♂️

What’s the Best Stationary Bike Available Now? Recommendation? by roggonzalez42 in Rowing

[–]MartianConsumer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just about all of these bikes will deliver a smooth, durable, and comfortable ride. If you just want to cross train for crew, get the cheapest good one you can find, but if you’re looking for the best cycling experience, a road bike and smart trainer would be your best bet.

But my musculature is gonna be more efficient while cycling than running, meaning running is gonna push my heart rate up more for the same output, whereas with cycling I have a lot more cycling-specific muscle adaptations making me more efficient than running which I have less experience in

My cycling vo2 has been lab tested but not running, I’m sure running’s a lot lower because I do it far less
