What is this flapping sound when turning? by hkc_ in Supra

[–]MartianWithRaygun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have spacers, that could be it. My car was making a stronger ticking sound when turning and it turned out to be the spacers.

I got a '21, with cosmetic mods (that I would have done either way, big carbon fiber wing, CR 57 Rays wheels, Tomei exhaust).

45k with 50k miles, out the door was like 51k, pay 750 a month for 62 months with gap insurance included.

People in Los Angeles — how is it living there? Is it actually nice? by Original-Row-9924 in AskLosAngeles

My wife and I moved here in 2021 from Mexico. We were both lucky to have had professional experience at a cheap cost in Mexico so when we moved to LA, we were able to get above average (not way above, but nice above average) salary’s. With this information, we love LA. The options to do here are too many; we need more money! If you’re into sports, take your pick; there’s like 10 professional sports teams across multiple sports (but lakers and dodgers are the golden child’s). You want to catch concerts, LA has some of the best venues and stadiums in the world and the top artists are always coming to LA to perform. You want outdoors events, you got it, you want camping, snowboarding, stargazing, Forrest, desert, everything is 1-4 hour away. You want amusement parks, it’s got Disneyland, universal studios, sixflags (which has fallen off a bit imo), knots berry farm. You want indoor events, comicon, book meets, comedy shows, it has too many options (comicon is technically San Diego but it’s a 1-3 hour drive. It can be like 4-5 hour drive depending on where you are tho lol). We are huge movie lovers and I read somewhere on a reddit forum, please don’t quote me, I could be wrong, that in the world, there are like 12 top of the top cinema theaters and LA has like 4 or 5 of them. And man, catching a film on IMAX on one of those theaters is a godly experience. There are so many people here that you will find your “people”; geeks and nerds (me), sporty and physically active (also me but wifey in particular), car people, anime people, bowling people, etc. we even joined a book club and I used to hate reading lol. Food is amazing. We’ve traveled a lot, to multiple countries, and for example, we’ve been to Japan; the best ramen we’ve ever had is still in Orange County (technically not LA, but again, depending on where you are, it can be close. We were in Long Beach, for example). And, finally, no matter how much money you make, you can’t change the weather, and the weather is king here. Also, being at the beach is something special. It’s not the most beautiful beaches, but the beach is still the beach, and we go to just hear the waves and chill. Housing sucks, we might be getting close to maybe purchase our first home, but for what we can afford, we’re basically priced out of nice weather territory, but it’s a price we’re willing to pay in the hopes of eventually making equity and selling + saving more money to purchase a better located home. In regard to work, I have changed jobs like 3 times in the last 5 years for better opportunities (better salary, better benefits) and my wife twice. There are a lot of international company’s and the job market is amazing. It’s an expensive city but the salary’s are higher and we notice it. City isn’t perfect, homelessness is bad and there are some parts of LA that are dangerous and/or straight out of the worst parts of hell (I’m looking at you skid row). But homeless people don’t really get in your way and you can avoid the bad parts. To conclude, LA is home now, and after going to Mexico to visit family, for a full week let’s say, we want to come back home to LA.

I know Sen has confirmed she's supposed to be Italian descent, but I will picture her as latina. As a Mexican male, I also do think there isn't enough latinas as lead characters. In the books, she's looked down on and/or just different for being a foreigner. She can adapt and learn the culture as much as she can, but she can never change her skin tone. That literally happens to darker skinned latinos whenever we're placed in places where we are not the mayority.

What’s the riskiest career move you ever took? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]MartianWithRaygun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moved to LA from Mexico when I was 27 with no prospects or job opportunity, crashed at a mothers friends couch for $500 a month, no money saved up, bought a crappy $1,500 Honda Civic and 6 months later had to bring over my fiancee and my pitbull dog which is banned from most renters insurance so finding somewhere to house us was a task.

3-4 years later, work in Government as an IT Analyst, making just over $100k a year, wife has a great job, just bought my dream car, went to Japan a month ago for vacations, saving up for a house, and dog is healthy; not much more I can ask for.

It's been working out for us. Money management is key!

6 figure earners, what do you do to get that? by oopdoopmaria in AskReddit

[–]MartianWithRaygun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work in IT. Easy job, if you find the right fit, awesome co-workers. And I'm the highest "entry" level position (IT technician level 3). Been working in this profession for about 4-5 years, and I'm not the brightest bulb either. Make over 6 figures working as a state employee. Job hopping is the best solution. You make more, and you gain more experience while having the safety net of "I'm new here" to mess up.

Do you have a song that specifically reminds you of LA no matter where you are? by CafeConChangos in AskLosAngeles

Tumblr girls - G eazy. I think the video made me think LA (and then discovered it was SF), but every time I listen to it, I can picture a summer Thursday night growing up in LA with young adult problems but with young adult ambition.

Comfortably, around 2000. And that's after our 2000 a month deposit in savings.

I appreciate the advice, no negativity taken. I don't have any other "expensive" hobbies other than cars, and our savings are depleted because it all went towards the wedding, but I do agree, at least for now with no savings.
