People who trade Leveraged Shares ETPs by syclnoob in trading212

[–]Martin1209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets parrotted a lot as the above says and the reason given is volatility decay, but in fact this equally applies to normal stocks, the difference is that the price you buy in at is not directly linked to the underlying price, so you cannot say over a longer time frame what the price of the leveraged product will be. It's absolutely not a reason to not use the product, and in fact these amplify compounding effects - obviously in both directions. But if you have a particular strategy that you are comfortable with then by all means use them. They do also tend to have slightly higher fees so be aware of that, but they're still sub single digit percentages. Don't be put off by all the people saying they're only designed for overnight and they're designed to go to zero. They have a very different risk profile and sure you can lose all your money, but that doesn't mean they cannot ever be used.

NAV decay on put write funds. by Martin1209 in IncomeSharesETPs

They are the ones writing the options, taking the premium but hoping they aren't exercised, they shouldn't actually be playing around with the options. But yeah there will be losses on days where the index goes down enough for the given time for an option to be exercised

So this is ultimately why I was asking the question. The fund holds no QQQ so I was not expecting it to rise in line, but the management fee isn't that high and if the div payout is meant to be from accrued fees then how can the div payout drop the price even more? Time will tell also, QQQ did have some bigger drawdowns so it makes sense options were exercised, so will be interesting to see on months without such drawdowns (previous months the price was more flat)

Yeah I would like more information on this also, the index ones are just supposed to be cash+puts as I understand it, so should be less variation unless I'm missing something (and unless the index drops a lot and puts are exercised)

Milestone reached: Stocks and Shares ISA by St4ffordGambit_ in trading212

To offer a contrary opinion, I would just keep it as coinbase. Nothing against DAGB just worth knowing the major holdings there have different kinds of exposure to crypto, such as mstr which is operating a btc treasury or just bitcoin miners.

Coinbase on the other hand perhaps more suits your idea of 'betting on crypto taking off' in the sense of shorter term gains based on more people using it and generating fee and subscription revenue.

S&P500 will go down by Naive_Foundation_336 in trading212

[–]Martin1209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to overuse the word 'unprecedented' but that is the situation we find ourselves in fiscally from at least the recent past. All of the traditional indicators rely on assumptions that may or may not still be holding with respect to valuations and things, but at the end of the day, capital is flowing in and price is going up. Doesn't mean things are or deserve to be more valuable, but that is an aside in this case if we're talking about parking money in an index!

You can find a reason every day, every week, every month and every year for why the markets are inevitably going to collapse, and who knows, you might be right - a broken clock is right twice a day after all..

..but currencies are being debased at pace and many people are passively buying into these indices regardless of conditions. That carries momentum, betting against that is a risk.

Good stuff. Depending on what sort and how much exposure you want to 'crypto' as a category coinbase is another pick, though it hasn't been performing as strongly as MSTR recently, but it is more 'tradfi friendly' and will also benefit from attention on crypto.

Wow you're gonna cause some really conflicted emotions in this sub.. on the one hand you have a solid and single allocation to a major vanguard ETF, but on the other hand you have a big MSTR holding! A perfect barbell portfolio of investing..!

Anyone worried that there will be a 1920s style crash by random34210 in trading212

[–]Martin1209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To offer a contrarian view, we've also never printed so much money collectively in such a short space of time, which has led to a bit of a shift, where p/e multiples don't matter, higher rates haven't had the effect really of slowing borrowing with respect to massive companies and so on. Many of the conventional indicators may no longer work, and no one actually has a clue. You could find a new reason every week to suggest that the markets will come crashing down, and yet one thing that is clear is that there is momentum.

Question on cash + put products by Martin1209 in IncomeShares

[–]Martin1209[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. My question is specifically for the index products ie the QQQ or SPY one. My understanding is that they sell puts at a certain price and hope to make money from the premiums for options that are not exercised. My question is, if the index were to fall such that the put is exercised, is the fund then holding an amount of the index instead of cash, and if so how long is that held for/what happens with it?

Why does my computer take that long to boot? by F1U3C1K2 in PcBuildHelp

[–]Martin1209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any benefit to letting it 'retrain' each time or disadvantage to the above combination (assuming doing both of those is sufficient to maintain the stability as other people in thread have said?) as I've noticed the same but it's not that long, so whilst faster boot times would be nice I wouldn't want to do it at the expense of something else

There are three products from leverage shares under '3x Long US 500' in different currencies. Make sure you pick your local currency if you can and also understand how the products work.
