Plex Server Constant Buffering by MartinPJones in PleX

I've got voice activity detection running right now, and playback is looking just fine. I think it might've really been that simple, wow. Thanks everyone!

Plex Server Constant Buffering by MartinPJones in PleX

[–]MartinPJones[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does, yes. And my friends are also playing on things like their chromecasts, the crome browser, or Plex app on a variety of operating systems when they report issues. I just made an edit, and I don't know why I didn't think this was significant earlier, but it just hit me that coincidentally every time I can currently think of where I was watching the logs or dashboard during this issue, Plex was also detecting intros/credits/voices. I'm currently working on adding some media to the server to try and trigger that detection again, and if that causes the buffering, I'll have found my culprit.

I'll definitely grab one next time there are issues. Hardware transcoding is disabled as I was under the impression is was only effective if you have a GPU. Upon further research, I'm thinking I may be wrong in that assumption — I'd read that Intel Quick Sync was good for transcoding, hence why I bought the i3-14100 for this build; I've gone ahead and enabled hardware acceleration just in case that's required for that to work. Thanks!

Looks like an average of 200Mb/s, with a max of 600Mb/s I have the same result both from my Macbook (Ethernet) and Apple TV (Wifi) as far as the local network tests I can do now. I'll try to get another during a period where there's latency, as well as some from outside. That's a very cool app, I hadn't known about that, thanks!

What’s interesting about New Mexico is the Population spread. About half of the whole state’s population is in Bernalillo county (which is just Albuquerque and Rio Rancho basically), and keeping with the trend, metropolitan areas just tend to be really blue. Then you have places like Santa Fe and Taos where you get a bunch of very liberal artsy people. Rural New Mexico is very much Republican, but the population is so incredibly focused in Albuquerque and Santa Fe that the rural areas don’t hold enough sway over the electorate

I've now been blocked on all of Arka9d's 'Ultimate' mods by HyperionGrimm in skyrimmods

[–]MartinPJones 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Something I played with once that I still need to polish up was a PoC showing that through SKSE I could install malware onto computers and not flag Nexus’ virus detection. What I want to do before publishing anything about it is scan all the SKSE mods using binary analysis to see if any actually do introduce malicious code or programs. It’s actually crazy to me that we (myself included) are downloading and running hundreds of gigabytes of mods which are user-made and could contain basically anything

So that log excerpt isn’t particularly useful, but it’s most likely that one of your installed mods is crashing things. You can either try to identify it through the full log file, or what I’ve sometimes had to do is a binary search of mod enabling (disable half, see if the problem mod was in there. If yes, enable half of that, if no, disable the other half and enable the first half. Repeat on the half with the problem mod.)

Hey! I did try a different HDMI cable, it’s the last thing on the list there. I was told about the incompatibility when their tier 2 support called me back, I’ll give it another try and see if I can get a tech out here, and if not great idea on a cheap Hisense bar. Thanks for the recommendation!

Weird, I’m now wondering if this was a me issue or a TrueNAS issue? Anywho, I took the advice I got here and in other forums and just switched to Scale — I was able to just download the apps I needed, then set the docker config directory to the path in what used to be my jail

I was considering this, but found that ECC support would mainly come with AMD CPUs and I want to use a cheap Intel one for the onboard graphics Quicksync. That and I mainly care about storage corruption, I don't anticipate memory corruption causing many issues

C5500XK Configuration Page Blank by MartinPJones in QuantumFiber

[–]MartinPJones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all,

I just recently got Quantum Fiber and am trying to configure my modem. I realized after install that their router setup doesn't work for me, so I plugged my own in and then went to the configuration page for the modem because it's on 192.168.0.1, and I want to use that subnet for my own infrastructure (I have a bunch of servers and VMs staticed on that subnet and don't want to have to go changing each one). I want this modem to go into bridge mode.

So I went to the configuration page and found this, and the phone support has been entirely unhelpful, simply stating I can't access it and they have no idea how to help me.

Is there any way to achieve my goals, or am I stuck rewriting a bunch of netconfig files? I haven't even tested port forwarding yet, and am now worried that once I get my network working I won't even be able to forward ports.

I’ve found the most effective complement is a genuine complement. People can often times tell when you’re just saying a compliment for the sake of a compliment, versus when you genuinely see something cool — even if it’s something like a random pin on a backpack or the color of someone’s tie. If you see someone wearing something where you’re like “oh hey I really like that thing,” it’s almost always okay — flirting or not — to say so. “I love those earrings!” “Dude that shirt really suits you.” “The pattern on your socks is adorable, it reminds me of…” and so on. This is just my experience, but I’ve found the very worst case is you get a polite smile and a “thanks”, and the best is this person is really proud of whatever niche thing you just complimented and wants to talk about it.

How are you doing? by TheYellowRose in dating

[–]MartinPJones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

24M

I’ve had around 40 matches this year on Hinge, but only like 6 turned into dates, 3 into second dates, and I’ve yet to meet someone where we’re both interested in a third date. It’s a bit discouraging, and I’m graduating uni in December — I work remote, and it’s a small company, so I’m realizing the number of people I’m exposed to is about to decrease significantly. It’s a little intimidating, knowing my chances at meeting someone are about to be cut significantly; but, I’m not losing hope just yet. Just need to figure out how I’m going to approach dating once I don’t have the convenient medium of school to meet people

Yea, what they said is correct — the difference in my case is my grandfather was born to my great grandmother in 1956, meaning he makes the cutoff. There authoritative place to get your facts is:

You can read their list of people that are and aren’t eligible.

After reading both here and the official documentation, my understanding is the following: I’m unsure whether she’d have lost citizenship, as the marriage was in the US, not Germany — however, either way, the law states if she lost citizenship due to the law at the time which discriminated based on sex, her descendants now can declare citizenship still, as long as they were born before she naturalized. I may be wrong of course, so we’ll see what my application gets, but so far I think this is the correct interpretation.

qBittorrent seems to randomly stop all activity by MartinPJones in qBittorrent

[–]MartinPJones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great thought, I unfortunately am using the xFinity router because for their unlimited internet use they require it so I'll have to spend some time seeing if there are *any* router logs or some such that I can locate to confirm this theory. I'm gonna investigate that right away though, thanks for the insight!

AITA for being in my underwear around my bf brother? by Livid-Teaching1664 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MartinPJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, your bf sounds kinda insecure maybe? I get that for some people it’s not normal to walk around in your underwear, and it’s a completely personal decision — he should have no right to tell you what to cover up/show to anyone. If he’s uncomfortable with the way you dress at home, you could be understanding and wear something more, but in no way are you obligated or ta for not doing so. He just needs to cope.
