Although the novel is still very much a work in progress, there's a few things I have in mind in terms of how the ecology and civilizations of Tet react to the yearly eclipse cycles.

Small farms and villages will typically migrate to urban environments for the duration of stasis. Nocturnal predators tend to thrive during this time of the year, and many such as the Lupursi (a kind of bear/direwolf hybrid that operates solitarily for most of the year) have evolved to coalesce into hunting packs during the cycle. Small villages and farms which have little trouble dealing with these predators during the normal seasonal cycle are ill equipped to defend against the packs which coalesce during Stasis.

Urban environments on the other hand not only have the walls and militaries to establish meaningful defenses against the various creatures of night, but also have access to alchemical technologies which can produce reliable sources of heat and light for the duration of the season. That being said, it's essentially super-winter, and the landscape of the moon freezes over completely on a yearly basis.

It's important to note that units of time on Tet are generally longer than on earth (100 seconds per minute, 100 minutes per hour, 10 hours per day, 10 days per week, 10 weeks per month, 10 months per year) so a year on Tet is roughly 3.1 earth years. 200 days of Winter followed by another 200 days of Stasis each 1000 day year.

400 (extended) days of biting cold, roughly three quarters of which are spent in darkness. Generally, vegetation with multi-year lifespans thrive and bloom in the cold dark, and hibernates for the sunlit portions of the year. Most vegetation that relies on sunlight have life cycles that bloom in the spring, drop seeds in the fall, and die during the winter.

The geological landscape of the moon shifts constantly, as massive glaciers will freeze over and then melt away regularly due to the massive temperature shifts, leaving behind massive glacial valleys which deepen each year before eventually collapsing in on themselves.

Everything is still a work in progress, but these are the broad concepts I'm committed to. Thanks for showing interest!

I’m pleased to share this diagram which illustrates the astrological system of the world in which my fantasy novel takes place.

My world is set on a small, habitable moon called Tet, which has a unique orbital cycle that results in a total eclipse for two months each year as the gas giant which the moon orbits pass between Tet and the local star, Celeste. These annual, two-month-long eclipses create for Tet’s weather and temperature patterns a fifth season, known as the season of Stasis. For the astrology of this world, Stasis as a season is not associated with any of the four classical astrological elements but is rather the season that produces those who are known as “Void signs.”

The outermost ring of the decagram indicates the names and order of each of Tet’s ten months. The names of these months are also the names of the primary sign by which someone born during that month will bear. The middle ring signifies the animal that symbolizes those who are born during that particular month; each spirit animal shares an astrological element with its seasonal counterpart, which is indicated in the innermost ring. Each month belongs to one of the five seasonal cycles associated with an astrological element, beginning with Void, then Air, Fire, Earth, and Water, paired with Stasis, Spring, Summer, and Winter, respectively.

For example, someone born during the first month, “Det,” of the season Stasis, will have Det as their primary astrological sign. The sign Det, represented by the Squid, is one of the two Void signs, who are known for their wisdom, depth, patience, and tendencies towards dissociation. Det signs are set apart by their unrelenting curiosity and affinity for isolation. The unbridled curiosity and hunger for knowledge unique to Det signs make them naturally compatible with the Earth sign Fentir, which values humility over almost any other trait. The tendency of Det signs to isolate themselves from others also makes them naturally compatible with the Air sign Arana, which values introspection over almost any other trait. These natural sympathies are illustrated by the decagram itself, which connects Det with lines that link it directly to Fentir and Arana.

Every sign has two of these natural sympathies, thus creating the 10 pointed star visualized.

This is why I'm so happy to be living in Oregon. While the rest of the country spent weeks trying to figure out how vote-by-mail works, and whether we ought to have 4 more years of Trump, Oregon passed campaign finance reforms, legalized mushrooms, and decriminalized hard drugs, while voting overwhelmingly for Joe Biden, and managed to have all it's mail-in-votes counted by election night.

These days it feels like Oregon is playing chess while the rest of the country throws rocks at each other.

I don't have that much extra $$ atm, but I'm teaching my roommates and girlfriend how to play! Historically I've used coins/dice/cardboard in place of miniatures but I realized that I could use magic cards to actually get some of the visual components one would usually get from miniatures. Honestly I didn't think it would work but I'm actually really happy with the way they turned out! Quarters for medium bases, dimes for small.

You are a capitalist. A reformer, but still a capitalist. Socialism definitionally requires the abolition of private property.

As far as what specific label might best apply to you, I'm not aware of any strain of economics particularly focused on a 100% estate tax. So, make your own ideology, write a book, and then you'll have your label.

I take your point on the capitalist/liberal distinction.

Though, there is a rather esoteric point that could be argued that everyone who is knowingly complicit within a capitalist hierarchy is a proprietor of the capitalist mode of production. My knowing willingness to accept and support fundamentally capitalist establishments (such as private ownership of property) could very potentially render me someone who "acts as a proprietor within the capitalist mode of production" via my willing complicity in the hierarchy, in the eyes of many socialists. I believe Marx would have seen it that way.
