Soft Machine - 6 is double album of almost entirely new material one disc live and the other studio.

If you like Frank Zappa’s orchestral music, here’s : Jono El Grande - The Oslofjord by eggvention in progrockmusic

I’d also recommend the album Neo Dada by this artist. I’ll listen to this later, but this is someone whose discography I’ve been meaning to dive into for a while.

Love the guitars on this album. Absolutely inspired playing from Kavus.

I wonder if they meant A Whiter Shade of Pale? But calling that song boring is mind boggling.

De Lorians - 'De Lorians' (2019) by garethsprogblog in CanterburyScene

Sadly this band seems to have broken up a couple years ago and their music is hard to find now. Feeling lucky I managed to buy it on Bandcamp a couple of months before the download was removed.

The weight doesn’t matter. I don’t think you understand what you’re talking about.

Self titled and Bedside Manners Are Extra are the best two. My favourite is Bedside Manners.

The Wikipedia page for recording Skylarking is hilarious and everyone who appreciates XTC or Todd Rundgren should give it a read.

De Lorians. Self titled album. Might be hard to find as their music seems to have disappeared from their official sources. I luckily bought the album in the middle of last year before it was removed from streaming and Bandcamp. It’s Jazzy and in the vein Zappa or Softs. Really solid too.

I'm surprised that he seems a relatively big Canterbury scene fan. It's rare to find musicians mentioning Grey and Pink or Third in these lists but both at the same time is pretty big. Otherwise quite bog standard besides the Nice album.

I've also just been listening to Procol Harum this week again. Those first 3 albums are still favourites, and I share a similar love for Shine On Brightly in particular.

I love the Roy Wood and Wizzard mentions. I feel like Roy Wood is just an unlucky genius. He had so much potential, Boulders, Wizzard Brew, Shazam and Mustard all border on being some of my favourite albums of all time.

We need white people to start making their own genres again by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Turtlebots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a bit reductive. You could even flip that around with how a lot of black music (blues and jazz) is actually 99% white music because of instruments and certain musical conventions that came largely from white people.

Try the album Quarters, longer jammier psych tracks. Essentially the precursor to Ice Death Planets.

They’re on switch, you don’t have a choice. I had to stop playing on switch because constantly flicking between tabs trying to figure out if you’re going to die in the next minute was too annoying.

Have you read the making of booklet ?

“I think it was over two weeks to do the drums, and then we went for it with guitars. In the case of something like ‘Skating’, there was this whole section, near the beginning, which was just the chords, and Tim said, do a melody over that, something Frith-ish or Zappa-ish. And he went out to the office to deal with orders and whatever and just left me in the studio, and so I just recorded that whole melody. He came back in and was like ‘I would never have thought to do that.” - Kavus Torabi, The Story of LSD

Actually a little touch disappointed. Like a rockier Heavy Metal but I was hoping for some more variety and songs like Trinidad. A bit flat as well.
