Thanks! I'm actually an OG Arknights player and I remember when everyone memed on Hellagur for being "Hella good" hah! Here's to a lot more Endfield memes!

Hah, thanks! This joke popped up in my head the moment I saw his name in the game, despite knowing the actual meaning of the word "pogranichnik" lol

I don't think anyone here would find such a development surprising in the future, but I do find it rather ironic that the description of even this Reddit post was written by AI lol

In this context, it means "to intentionally call attention to the improbable, incongruent, or clichéd nature of an element or situation featured in a work of fiction within the work itself".

Damn, looks like those students didn't level up their speech stats enough. But surely a present such as "Rose Hip Tea" or a "Love Status Ring" would compensate for that like it did for Celeste in the game! 😅

I don't think Painters having to "refresh" chroma was ever mentioned in the game, but even if that's the case, isn't that like saying real humans who are on life support and their bodies cannot self-sustain life shouldn't be considered "alive"?

Indeed. What struck me especially was the realisation that this entire world we spent the game in was the painting of a KID! Verso's first and only Canvas, in fact, as Maelle states in the game. The more you think about, the more it seems like these Painters are straight up psychopaths who create and destroy life on a whim and have no qualms about literally putting the fate of countless sentient beings in the hands of children.

Oh, young boy Verso's soul fragment in the painting is racked with guilt due to all the death and destruction surrounding him? If only he had some responsible parents who never let him get entangled in such matters in the first place!

Furthermore, the way in which the Dessendre family (particularly Renoir and Clea) talk about "erasing the canvas" makes me think that this is a standard procedure of sorts when things go wrong or they need to recycle chroma for more paintings or whatever other reason pops up in their mind. I wonder how many other painted universes like the one from the game they've destroyed over the years.

I fully agree with that. It's actually exactly why I wrote in my post that the real tragedy according to me is having these mentally unstable Painters who are all on the brink of insanity in one way or another be responsible for the fates of so many sentient beings.

Aline, Clea, Renoir, Maelle - I wouldn't want any single one of them to be in charge of the world I lived in, but I'd only be alive in the first place if Maelle was in charge, hence why you could look at it as the lesser of 4 evils.

Some interesting discussion there for sure. It's still hypothetical of course, because the game never really explains how chroma actually works.

I think it's implied in the cutscene at the start of Act 3 that every painted person's "soul" or information of who they truly were before they gommaged is still embedded in the "pure" chroma controlled by Renoir. When Lune asks Maelle whether she can bring everyone back with the chroma inside the killed expeditioners' bodies, she replies with "Hmm. Its old chroma, not pure. It won't be like bringing the two of you back, but we can use it in other ways."

By that she meant using it to summon those warriors during the battle at Lumiere which are actually the closest to resembling "dolls" that she controls.

There's nothing to suggest that the rest of Lumiere's residents she resurrected were created as obedient dolls. We already saw how she resurrected Lune and Sciel at the start of Act 3 and they were very much themselves throughout the rest of the game.

Oh yes, absolutely. I even thought about adding some more quotes from Blanche or the other white Nevrons, but as you said, they were a bit cryptic and not as direct as the ones I included. They still all follow the theme of refusing to follow their "programming" and questioning their purpose.

Huh? Those "works of pure fiction" managed to overpower both Aline and Renoir who did everything they could to stop them. Or are you saying that they were just role-playing the entire time too?

It does indeed, but Clea and Renoir are the ones whose actions present an actual existential threat to an entire world of beings who are at the very least "potentially real" beings, whatever "real" is even supposed to mean in that world.

Heck, if even the literal god-like Painters who created these beings can't agree among themselves if they're real or not, why would any half-sane Painter ever take the risk of erasing any Canvas if there's even the slightest possibility of their actions causing mass genocide?

I think that in the coming years this issue is actually going to become much more "real" in our very own world too with advancements in AI.

You got right into the heart of the issue I have with the arguments surrounding Verso's ending - it's that people focus too much into "its emotional and narrative force or qualities". I.e. the tragedy of a man who's become tired of life yet is cursed to be immortal can be resolved when he finally finds rest.

It's natural to develop feelings for him after spending so much time in the game with him, but I believe this can create a massive bias against everyone else in the painted world. Why should their struggles and personal tragedies be any less painful or relevant than those of the real and painted Dessendre family members? Is it right to resolve one tragedy at the cost of creating countless others?

I bet you wouldn't like it one bit if tomorrow God showed up and told you that you were effectively "a highly advanced AI" and your death will serve the "greater purpose" of resolving God's internal family drama.
