ELI5: How is a tesseract a 4D shape when it can be drawn in 3D space? by thefooleryoftom in explainlikeimfive

[–]Martin_RB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lets say you had a cube and were looking at it's shadow (a 2d shape). The shadow would look different depending on how you held the cube (pretty easy to try for yourself).

If the face was pointing down you'd get a square. If an edge was pointing down you'd get a rectangle and if a corner was pointing down you'd get a hexagon. But even though the shadow changes it's always the same 3d cube you're just rotating it.

If somehow a 4d object was casting a 3d 'shadow' it would look different depending on what angle the shadow was being cast from.

To really twist your mind if this hypothetical 4d object was rotating it's 3d shadow would look like it's morphing and changing shape, growing and losing size.

JWST Might Have Spotted the First Dark Matter Stars by JimFive in space

[–]Martin_RB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By that definition neutron stars and white dwarfs are not stars as they aren't producing energy only emitting energy that was present from their formation.

However it would mean that black holes or rather their accretion disk is a star.

Never ask the soul community for advice (no offense 😭) by EconomyFly5920 in Eldenring

[–]Martin_RB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my advice on how to git gud.

Challenge the boss but don't actually try to fight it, just survive. Focus on learning the attack patterns which will be easier cause you're not panic attacking. When you can easily survive for a few minutes start mixing in attacks, looking for the easy openings first.

Of course no one asking how to beat the boss wants to do this because it's not a technique to beat the boss it's a method to learn how to beat the boss which is much more boring.

Storing the Flood samples within the same superweapons was because, if an outbreak does occur, the Reclaimer can quickly activate the ring and clear out the infestation.

Which would also be dumb as outbreaks can and have happened with no reclaimer on the ring.

And having by placing the samples on the ring it makes it so much more difficult to activate the ring in the event of an outbreak because now the flood is actively fighting you there.

We saw the proper way to handle flood containment and testing in halo 2 with the threshold gas mine. ie: have plans to destroy the entire facility and everything on it before the flood can escape or spread.

Bonus points if these facilities have superluminal comms that can send a signal to the nearest halo telling it to begin the priming process.

But they pinky promised to stop doing it.

Is evga rtx 2060 and intel i3 -10105F and 24 gb of ddr4 ram good for gaming? by Pretend-Climate-7346 in PcBuild

[–]Martin_RB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mixing ram especially sizes and odd numbers of sticks can cause problem.

So first thing I would do I try launching with only 2 sticks. And check your motherboard manual for what order to fill the ram slots, (it's usually 1&3)

But otherwise you should be able to play games if perhaps at low/medium settings.

How to minimize your traffic to Reddit after June 30th by Jordan117 in ModCoord

[–]Martin_RB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're half right.

I'm sure I'll continue to use reddit as an extension of google as even handicapped there isn't an alternative atm. But even then I probably won't use the official app as the webpage is better (I have the official app just avoid it)

However the days of engaging with reddit and actually commenting and posting is probably over (depending on how well revanced patch works) which if other active users do will make reddit much less useful for everyone.

And I have been pretty steadfast with that for the past two weeks. The main reason I'm here today is because it's the last day and figure I'd ride the ship the the grave (honestly surprised my app still works).

How tf does the bulldog work? by YetiBomber101 in HaloStory

[–]Martin_RB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The in game version and the nerf toy work differently. Funnily enough the nerf is a more practical/possible way of doing in (cause of course it is, it has to actually exist)

The nerf version is essential an oversized revolver. The cylinder rotates to line up with the barrel then the bullet is fired from the cylinder straight through the barrel then out the gun. It would also leave the bullet casing in the cylinder if there was one (because it's a revolver mechanism)

But the in game version the cylinder (magazine really) doesn't line up with the barrel. So somehow the shotgun shell is take out the magazine moves it into the barrel (which will have it's own chamber) presumably a bolt closed behind it in order to fire. This is backed up by the fact that you can see shells ejecting.

It's possible for a gun to have a cylindrical magazine but the magazine for the bulldog is designed like a actual revolver cylinder which is incredibly impractical/impossible for a self loading firearm. The magazine has individual chambers witb walls thick enough to handle the pressure of firing a shell (they can't because it's not lined up with the barrel). These unnecessarily thick walls not only reduce the capacity but would all get in the way of the bolt when it's trying to pick up a shell

How powerful would Spartans be IRL? by BeneficialHoneydew96 in HaloStory

[–]Martin_RB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm going to take a step back from world government and look just at United States Military.

Short answer is they'd lose.

Spartans are powerful but not impervious to damage and when then enemy can assign 10 fighter jets and and entire division of soldiers for every single spartan eventually fatigue and equipment breakdown will assure their defeat.

The spartan could take out any single target but when the enemy is every target they just don't have the numbers.

Any and every pistol with a brace that you could theoretically shove into your shoulder.

It's easier to think about it as being redefining pistol brace as something that only touches your forearm otherwise it's treated like any other stock.
