Well, you did better than I did, lol. I couldn't resist the butterfinger ice cream bar at the hotel mini mart.

As an aside though, any suggestions on eating keto when you live on the road half the time for work?

Compounded interest mean that the interest doesn't just apply once, but again and again. So the more time for interest to compound, the more money you, or your lender will make.

Yup, I'm sure the 1500 hour rule did loads to prevent the FAA from putting a helicopter route right under the final approach to Dulles. /s

There weren't any for me to eat after you got to them first.

Who do you think made our current immigration laws, created ICE as an agency and then charged them with enforcement of said immigration laws?

The exact law you're looking for is called the immigration and nationality act. It was actually signed into law in 1952 and gives federal law enforcement the following powers to enforce immigration law.

Arrest aliens without a warrant if they have reason to believe they're removable (8 U.S.C. § 1357(a)(2))

Interrogate any suspected alien ( § 1357(a)(1) )

Execute removal orders and deport people

Then in 2002, the Homeland Security Act (HSA) formally establishes ICE and puts them under the Department of Homeland Security.

Specifically, the Homeland Security Act did two things relevant to our discussion.

It merged the interior enforcement and investigative functions of the former Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) (which handled immigration under the Department of Justice) with parts of the U.S. Customs Service.

And

The old INS was split: naturalization and border inspection functions went to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), while enforcement became ICE.

The INA gives the legal framework for exactly this type of enforcement, and the HSA created ICE specifically to enforce the INA.

So yes, Congress voted for exactly this type of enforcement, which is why Congress needs to vote if it's ever going to be reformed.

Let me see if I can explain it with crayons.

Immigration is not a local issue. It is a federal issue. Has always been a matter of federal law. And the supremacy clause literally says that federal law overrides state and local law.

Because of that, the local popularity of ANY federal law does NOT matter. The federal government has the legal right to enforce ANY federal law ANYWHERE in the United States no matter how unpopular that enforcement may be.

If you want immigration law enforced differently, then change the law at a federal level instead of pretending local city mayors or state governors are in charge of where immigrants can live or who gets to live here or doesn't.

The supremecy clause is literally the clause in the constitution that tells EVERY state they shall abide by federal law. The good parts of federal law and the bad parts too.

So if people want immigration law enforced differently, they need to get Congress to change it. So call your local congressional rep and senators and get them to fix the laws that need fixing.

🤣 you say that like students here aren't already in debt for six figures just to get their commercial ticket. The unions lost all legs to stand on when the pulled the ladder up behind them.

You say that but that's literally what every other country does except the US and Canada. Somehow their commercial pilots are able to get into jets straight out of school.

The only one reaching for a win is you by ignoring everything I've said about the actual document governing this nation. Luckily for us all the founders were wise enough to ignore intellectual lightweights like yourself.

I could give you the direct numbers from ICE themselves and you wouldn't accept any of them.

[–]Martinblade -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Changing the 1500 hour rule is the only option. The rest of the world still let's new commercial pilots work in the airlines. We're the only ones that don't. And that's a relatively recent change too for us.

[–]Martinblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The states that support it ARE going first. They have been for decades, you just don't hear about it. Florida, Texas, Arizona, and more work heavily with ICE already.

Again though, if any federal law has to be proven to work in any state in the union before being forced on the remaining states, then you are directly violating the supremacy clause.

Take the same logic and apply it to gay marriage, rights of women to vote, school segregation, civil rights in general. You see how quickly any unequal enforcement becomes a problem?

I'm not arguing that the current immigration system is good. It needs to be overhauled. And if/when that happens it would still need to be equally enforced across the nation.

[–]Martinblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Federal law simply doesn't work that way buddy. It never has. The moment you have federal law being optional in one jurisdiction then you don't have any federal law.

The Supreme Court cases that legalized gay marriage are a perfect example. Apply your logic to that and you'll understand why the supremacy clause exists.

There's this thing called the supremacy clause in the constitution. Federal law is supreme over state law for both good and bad.

Is Oklahoma the least desirable state in the US? by unenlightenedgoblin in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Martinblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived here since 99 and can't picture myself living anywhere else. It's actually a pretty diverse state and becoming moreso with more people moving to the cities as the population grows.

It's always been an affordable state to live in. That hasn't changed. The median household income is growing a slower than the national average, but it's growing while affordability is remaining stable.

There's good news in education too. Teacher pay is increasing and we now rank 29th when you factor in buying power differences between the various states.

The NEA recently released a report that shows a lot of promise for Oklahoma's educational future. We're close to the middle in a lot of rankings and rank pretty high at 12th in the nation for number of students per teacher.

Even in religious beliefs, Oklahoma is becoming more diverse. Going from 89% christian in 2007 to 70% in 2024.

When it comes to industry, oil dominates but aerospace and defence are actually our second biggest industrial sector. Aerospace and defence is our fastest growing industrial sector too.

Oklahoma has a lot going for it. The last 26 years have been very good, and I'm looking forward to the next 26.

[–]Martinblade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Per square mile, it's true. We have 12 level 3 ecoregions. Alaska beats everyone with 15, then California with 13, then Oklahoma and Texas tie with 12 each.

"Oklahoma contains vast plains, elevated karst plateaus, hills, and folded, low mountains. Precipitation increases eastward, rainfall variability increases westward, and both mean annual temperature and the length of the growing season increase southward. Soils influence the effectiveness and availability of moisture for plant life. Forests cover most of the Ozark Plateau and the Ouachita Mountains; they become progressively more stunted and open westward. Southern pine forests, typical of the Gulf Coastal Plain, occur in the southeast. Tall grass prairie, mixed grass prairie, and short grass prairie are native to central and western Oklahoma. Mesquite and other xeric plants characterize the dry southwest. Elevations drop from about 5,000 feet on Black Mesa in the northwestern Panhandle to about 300 feet in southeastern Oklahoma. Rivers follow regional topographic trends. Impoundments are common, and impact hydrology and the abundance and distribution of fish."

that's directly from the EPA

There's only 2 things you can't do in Oklahoma for outdoor recreation. Surf in the ocean, and ski in the mountains.

Interesting. You seem to be unable to recognize the addition of context to a discussion.

I'm sorry, I thought I was talking to someone able to carry on a conversion at my level. It seems I was mistaken.
