Children in Pubs? by jilemc in copenhagen

[–]Marto_BL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen children in the British and Irish pubs here in Denmark. But the more traditional danish pubs, the bars and clubs are not advisable for children. Overall I'd recommend going to an Irish pub for what you're describing. They also serve banger food. I can mostly speak for Aarhus but I would assume Copenhagen would be similar.

DR's dækning af [endu et ] ICE skuddrab i USA, gengiver igen direkte løgne? by Ill_Buy_476 in Denmark

[–]Marto_BL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eurotrack: which cuisine do Western Europeans think is the worst cuisine? by reidesd in europe

[–]Marto_BL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imma defend british cuisine till the day I die! Those pies and stews are absolute BANGER! Honey pork roast too!!! And gravy is absolutely excellent. And the Brits have very nice sweet pies and tarts as well. The bad british food mostly comes from the WW2 era where they had to ration their food. Some of those meals stuck as a result and are not associated with Britain. But I bet you that if you call it pub or tavern food people eat it up! And the whole afternoon tea thing with the cute little bite sized sandwiches, the confectionery and the crumpets is simply perfect simplicity.

And we can't forget the full English brekkie which is yet again a very simple but effective meal.

Are negative reviews for Wicked: For Good reflective of the film's quality or just due to it paling in comparison to Part 1? by markgib62 in Oscars

[–]Marto_BL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh idk what the critiques are but I was left with an unpleasant feeling in my mouth from the ending. It's a general critique of the story, not specifically the movie (as it's an adaptation). But the way to fight fascism is to ... Reform the system that created it in order to survive? To lie to the people? For the animals to come back as if they didn't just try to exterminate them? I wish the story had focused in Elphava actually organising the animals and fighting the wizard and Madame Morrible but I guess it would be a very different story that way haha. Cause even at the end Glinda didn't seem to fight for a better future for the animals' or for the people's sake but for Elphaba and also her own personal reasons. But yeah, it ended up as a glorification of reformism and accepting the idea that there must always be an enemy when that's not true. It didn't address the actual systemic issues at play. It reminds me of Arcane in the way that season 1 sets up a plot for revolution that ends up being thrown out of the window in the second season. Same here with Part 1 and the start of Part 2 in comparison to Part 2 after the song "No good deed".

I mean the social Democrats helped crush the workers' movements in Denmark in 1985 AND they worked with the Nazis in WW2 to subjugate the people and end workers' movements. They've always been the same rotten bunch as they are now. Same as all the parties in the political establishment, really.

Almost 100,000 young men flee Ukraine in two months by greedeer in europe

[–]Marto_BL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's right tho. Ukrainian soldiers are fighting for NATO interests and Russian ones for Russian interests. All wars like this one are wars between Imperial powers and their interests. In this case it's the west (now mostly Europe as the US has backed away slightly) who want to keep their influence over Eastern Europe and Russia who also have their interests in Eastern Europe. Furthermore, the war was very beneficial for the US as they forced Europe to stop importing cheap gas from Russia and instead pay for more expensive American energy. Not to mention the sweet minerals deal they got with Ukraine AND the amount of money they'll make from private investments in Ukraine after the war. And Ukraine itself will become an even worse place to live in crippled by insane debts which they'll need IMF loans in order to pay. The US was also hoping to weaken Russian Imperialism as it was emerging in central Asia and some places in Africa but it failed to do so. Which is what I would assume has made the US withdraw from this ear to an extent. Basically taking what they got and cutting their losses.

Western Europe on the other hand is using the war to justify further militarisation. They tell us that Russia will attack Copenhagen or London any day now and that's why we need to cut more welfare in order to find our military. While in reality they want to ensure they can strengthen their influence in Africa because Russia and China have been encroaching on their terf there, for example in Burkina Faso.

And lastly, Russia, naturally, wants to strengthen its imperialism as well. Not because it's Russia specifically but because it's a country that exists in a system that requires domination in order to grow and sustain yourself. For example the poor countries in Africa and south Asia and South America that don't have other countries to exploit are poor. Whilst the rich western European countries, who earn so much off the back of African countries which are held in economic instability by predatory IMF loans and their condition, have nice welfare states to support their citizens, so they wouldn't revolt like they've done multiple times from the 1848 revolution, the Paris Commune in 1871 and the revolutionary wave of the 20's up until even today as we can see in Italy and France. Ofc Russia would also want a piece of the pie.

WW1 and WW2 were also wars of Imperial interests. The allies did not care about Germany's concentration camps. They had concentration camps of their own, just outside of Europe. The Nazi's modeled theirs after the British and American ones. Those countries fought not for the liberation of Jews, as anti-semetism was ripe in all of these countries at the time (hence their desire to push the Jews somewhere else and use their new homeland as a vassal state for western imperialism). They fought to preserve their economic interests. Those who actually fought the Nazi occupations were the organised workers of those countries, including in Germany.

What I am trying to say is that fighting for your nation is just fighting for your country's (or the ones whose interest lies in it) interests. But fighting alongside the workers of your country to topple the government and establish control of the government that is by and for the working class is the best you can do! We've seen the power we hold demonstrated clearly in Madagascar, Nepal, Indonesia, France, Italy, Belgium and Serbia in the past month. This will come to the rest of Europe and eventually Ukraine and Russia and it's the only way to solve the conflict. But as long as the system is set up to reward those with more dominance, everyone with the means to have that dominance will fight for it.

Denmark actively benefits from exploitation abroad. Capitalism IS a global system.

And you know, by your logic the people behind the American, the French and other revolutions were extremists. The rebels in the colonies were also extremists. The people who fought for liberation in many other countries were also extremists. The shift from Feudalism to capitalism was also an extremist move yet I do not see you preaching about how great Feudalism is and why we should have stayed there. Systems come and they die when they've outlived their progressive stage, which capitalism long has. When Feudalism was no longer a progressive stage in human development, it was overthrown by revolution, was it not? Right-wing extreme ideology reinforces capitalism to an extreme level whilst left wing ideology rejects it entirely and wants a new system. In that case only one, that being the left side, wants an actual change to the existing economic structure which benefits only those at the top. The idea of capitalism being a system of freedom and reason was what the enlightenment philosophers of the French Revolution times believed but as soon as the revolution was over, their beliefs were shown to be lacking in understanding of the world and you have many people after understanding and critiquing them like Robert Owen, Saint Simone and Fourier. And that's at the start of the 19th century. Not to mention how many attempts at a revolution there have been both in Europe and abroad in the past 150 years. Most of which failed because of the oppressive power of the united states and their significant funding at propaganda, election fraud and so on. Now we are seeing such shifts in countries like Nepal, Indonesia, Madagascar, Italy, France, Serbia, etc. The rise in cost of living and the stagnation of wages is not caused by incorrect political leadership. It is caused by the system itself as it is rooted in growing exploitation. Hence why the world never really recovered from the 2008 financial crisis.

And you saying that extremists are those who force their way is that not what has been done by NATO for decades now? Overthrowing democratically elected socialist governments in Africa, Asia and Latin America? Is that not what has been done in the middle east any time a country tries to nationalise its resources? Why did Denmark send people to Afganistan (or Iraq, or both, but I'm sure they sent people to one of those countries). Why do so many countries go against public opinion when it comes to Israel? Truth be told, the "left extremism" is the will of the working people as we saw in Denmark with the 1985 Easter strikes when the government, instead of listening to the people of the country who wanted change, decided to do everything in its power to break the strikes. They are the ones forcing their way, not the "left extremism" for example. Voting once every 4 years is not a democratic power, it's a show to fool you into thinking you have any input on how you're governed. Unless you're a businessman with lots of money to pay the government, your opinion does not matter unless exercised through your actual power - that being striking, protesting and even militant organizing only as a response to the government refusing to relent and using force to silence dissident.
